He thinks his players are robots that can play every single tournament and will always rely on Justin Brownlee's super talent... If he wants chemistry then pick Tolentino, Ahamnisi, Lassiter and Lastimosa to be part of the pool since all of them played under CTC either Ginebra or past Gilas Tim Cone involvement...
Take for instance the situation of Gilas in the 1st window of the 2025 FIBA Asia Cup qualifiers last Feb., AJ Edu wasnt able to suit up becoz of injury. Then in the coming OQT, both Edu & Jamie Malonzo will not play becoz of injuries. I hope Iskati would be able to play."A king may move a man, a father may claim a son, but that man can also move himself, and only then does that man truly begin his own game. This will not suffice." - King Baldwin IV

Players that I want to add to coach Tim Cone's original 12-man Gilas team (sans favoritism & politics):
Justin Baltazar
Jordan Heading
Will Navarro
Robert Bolick
Now if Bolick isn't willing to play for Gilas, I would replace him with the improved Alec Stockton who at 6-foot-2 is a good size point guard.

So in case Isksti can't play, that would leave Gilas with only CJ Perez, Chris Newsome & Dwight Ramos (though Dwight is mostly utilized as a 3) as our players at the 1 & 2 spots.
This is what some of us here at IBN have been pointing out eversince coach Tim Cone announced the Gilas pool members which originally was made up of only 12 players. We've been saying, manipis tayo sa guard positions with only Iskati, Perez & Newsome in there.
As the consensus have it, Jordan Heading should have been named to the pool. We've seen what Heading can do with Gilas. Heading was also impressive in his stint with Strong Group Athletics in a tournament in Dubai early this year.

They happen all the time, hence it is vital to maintain enough No. of players in a pool/team. I think the ideal No. is 16 players. Para sa akin, hindi rin maganda yung subrang dami ng players like 22 or more.

So here's the pool as of now:
Guards: Scottie, Newsome, Perez
Wings: Dwight, Brownlee (NP), Oftana, Malonzo
Tweeners: Tamayo, Quiambao, Mason (reserve)
Bigs: Kai, AJ, June Mar, Japeth (reserve)
We need at least one reserve in the guards. If not Bolick and/or Heading, try recalling SJ Belangel and RJ Abarrientos. Also, Newsome turns 34 next month, so he's close to retirement.
As for the wing, Dwight's the only reliable local defensive wing, Malonzo's injured, JB's a NP and is 36, and Oftana's having trouble on defense as of late. We'll need Navarro as the defensive wing after JB retires or to replace Malonzo and Oftana.
For the tweeners and bigs, AJ's the only reliable defender, so we'll have to rely on JB to help Kai out when AJ's injured or on the bench. We need a good defender at those spots just in case AJ's injured. Balti, Kemark Carino? The real worry is if AJ gets hurt after JB retires. Can Kai develop into a reliable defender, or will we need a good defensive 4 to help him out in case AJ's injured?

Between Mason Amos & Baltazar, I like the latter better. Mason's edge over Baltazar is his youth but in terms of current capabilities Baltazar is better."A king may move a man, a father may claim a son, but that man can also move himself, and only then does that man truly begin his own game. I would like to test the mettle of Alec Stockton playing for Gilas. We've been clamoring for good size point guards for our national team for years now. So there is the 6-foot-2 Stockton who has made significant improvement in his game in the past 1 year & has become one of Converge' top players. While Stockton isn't that young (he turns 26 in a few days), he hasn't reach his peak yet. Meaning he still can improve.
If he will improve his passing, decision making & court awareness, then maganda potential nya to become a point guard for Gilas.
He is known for his defense but the good thing is, he has really polished his offensive game lately. He is a good slasher & finisher, plus he can also hit those 3's. He also has reliable pull up jumper from mid-range. He is indeed a scoring threat. Compared to Iskati Thompson, I think Stockton has a better offensive game.
What remains to be seen is if he can carryover those things in the FIBA or international game."A king may move a man, a father may claim a son, but that man can also move himself, and only then does that man truly begin his own game. But it seems Black has been inconsistent with his game in the last 1 year or so (worse he got injured) while Stockton has been doing well in the last 1 year."A king may move a man, a father may claim a son, but that man can also move himself, and only then does that man truly begin his own game. He has been given a lot of playing time and his coaches trust him with the ball which is great. Even when he wasn't doing well statistically, all the tools were there, relatively young at 26, a lean 6'2 w/ legit PG skills and plays with a lot of hustle/energy. For Gilas he doesn't need to score 15-20 points but surely he could put pressure on the ball defensively with his style of play.
Jordan's Ibrahim was torching us back in 2021 (not sure) and I believe guys like Stockton and Newsome will be very effective against similar types of PG (Long, lean and athletic)
