CTC think that FIBA setting is same as PBA that it's ok to have 12 players only, Eh nambabangko pa yan sa PBA eh... He should pick atleast 16 - 18 players max... I'm OK if he will not pick such as Heading or Baltazar due to favoritism issues or political issues w/ their handlers but 12 only? He thinks his players are robots that can play every single tournament and will always rely on Justin Brownlee's super talent... If he wants chemistry then pick Tolentino, Ahamnisi, Lassiter and Lastimosa to be part of the pool since all of them played under CTC either Ginebra or past Gilas Tim Cone involvement... -
It doesn't take a genius to know that injuries here & there as well as inavailability of players for whatever reason/s are normal. They happen all the time, hence it is vital to maintain enough No. of players in a pool/team. I think the ideal No. is 16 players. Now if Bolick isn't willing to play for Gilas, I would replace him with the improved Alec Stockton who at 6-foot-2 is a good size point guard.

We need at least one reserve in the guards. If not Bolick and/or Heading, try recalling SJ Belangel and RJ Abarrientos. Also, Newsome turns 34 next month, so he's close to retirement.
As for the wing, Dwight's the only reliable local defensive wing, Malonzo's injured, JB's a NP and is 36, and Oftana's having trouble on defense as of late. We'll need Navarro as the defensive wing after JB retires or to replace Malonzo and Oftana.
For the tweeners and bigs, AJ's the only reliable defender, so we'll have to rely on JB to help Kai out when AJ's injured or on the bench. We need a good defender at those spots just in case AJ's injured. Balti, Kemark Carino? The real worry is if AJ gets hurt after JB retires. Can Kai develop into a reliable defender, or will we need a good defensive 4 to help him out in case AJ's injured?Comment

I would like to test the mettle of Alec Stockton playing for Gilas. We've been clamoring for good size point guards for our national team for years now. So there is the 6-foot-2 Stockton who has made significant improvement in his game in the past 1 year & has become one of Converge' top players. While Stockton isn't that young (he turns 26 in a few days), he hasn't reach his peak yet. Meaning he still can improve.
If he will improve his passing, decision making & court awareness, then maganda potential nya to become a point guard for Gilas.
He is known for his defense but the good thing is, he has really polished his offensive game lately. He is a good slasher & finisher, plus he can also hit those 3's. He also has reliable pull up jumper from mid-range. He is indeed a scoring threat. Compared to Iskati Thompson, I think Stockton has a better offensive game.

It should be Panopio who should be the point guard to Kai and AJ. The guy has also been exposed to superior opposition abroad and is used to playing with and against bigger players.sigpicComment

He has been given a lot of playing time and his coaches trust him with the ball which is great. Even when he wasn't doing well statistically, all the tools were there, relatively young at 26, a lean 6'2 w/ legit PG skills and plays with a lot of hustle/energy. For Gilas he doesn't need to score 15-20 points but surely he could put pressure on the ball defensively with his style of play.
Jordan's Ibrahim was torching us back in 2021 (not sure) and I believe guys like Stockton and Newsome will be very effective against similar types of PG (Long, lean and athletic)Comment
