panopio has always been on SBP's radar however, what matters now in the current program is what is on CTC's radar. he has full reign on the composition that was part of the deal and it is set in stone. and on the side note there are other better guards that we currently have that are readily available and in CTC's plan the PG is an integral part of the program that the PG has to know his system above everyone else at most.

Kai will have to make strides on defense for him to be a feasible long-term partner with Bennie, who's a defensive liability in the PBA and in China (although he's a good defensive rebounder). Right now, AJ-Kai and Bennie-AJ are the only lineups that I can see without compromising our interior defense.

As for June Mar, let's see if he retires from Gilas alongside JB, considering that they're only 18 months apart.

      • we can only hope that after the 2027 cycle, issues about our 3,4 and 5 position may somehow be address.

exemptions for the following young guys seems a long shot for now but I rather gamble on something that has a fighting chance rather than doing nothing at all

        6'8 Mike Philips
        6'7 Kai Ballugay
        6'7 Zavier Lucero
        6'8 Keith Datu
        6'9 Luis Villegas
        6'10 QMB
        7'0 AK34
        6.11 Carl Lane
6'11 Malik Diouf (my wild entry)
6'10 Colin Akowe (my wild entry)

          • QMB is not a typical "ball is life" athlete. He has a mechanical engineering degree (with honors) and is in graduate school. He's on record saying he wants to make an impact in renewable energy development.

There are guys who play college ball (even a few pro years) because they can, but their passion is in something else.

which is very good in SMC or MVP group of companies as they are diversifying conglomerates

              • the current admin are heavily focus on renewable energy development, new innovation/technology invention, IT Infrastructure related to digitalization, cyber security, database/cloud management, semiconductors, green economy and food security.

with USA and Japan fully committed to train and educate Filipinos as part of the so-called transfer of Technology

so ballers like QMB being a degree holder on Mecha had a good opportunity here as well

I think Villegas and Ange are not in the "young" category anymore, since they're both 26. "Young" for most of the world is 25U, based on what I've seen.

                    Sir IPC,

assuming those two will get an exemption(hopefully), no major injuries along the way and known for being a health buff(sana), at 2032 WC those dudes will be late 31 or early 32 assuming they are exactly as of the moment, I think they are still serviceable e.g. 2025, 2027 SEA Games, 2026 and 2030 AG, 2028 OQT for LA Olympics among others.

                        Sir evil,

Grandpa Al Pan will be retiring for good(?) on the middle of the year as per several posted newslink.

I hope he is grandpa enough on his word and never change his mind for a possible extension.

the federation badly needs some young grass and not be eaten by the old grumpy cows.(trans. new people who had fresh ideas and not inherit the old way, the old culture of the office)

Do U think Chot Reyes would be a good prospect as SBP president? Or maybe most of us pinoy basketball fans don't want Chot to have anything to do with the Phi national basketball team? Parang we see Chot as some sort of a curse na kasi eh.

But honestly between coach Chot & Panlilio, I would choose the former. At least si coach Chot may na accomplish sa Phi basketball - that is bringing Phi basketball back to the basketball World Cup after 40 yrs of absence. Ano ba nagawang kabutihan ni Al Panlilio sa Phi basketball? Parang wala eh. It seems nagka litse-litse nga yung Gilas when he replaced Manny Pangilinan as SBP president.
"A king may move a man, a father may claim a son, but that man can also move himself, and only then does that man truly begin his own game. Remember that howsoever you are played or by whom, your soul is in your keeping alone, even though those who presume to play you be kings or men of power, when you stand before God, you cannot say, 'But I was told by others to do thus,' or that virtue was not convenient at the time. This will not suffice." - King Baldwin IV

Actually. We got a lot of underperforming players, including a particularly bad stretch from 2017 to 2019. Only FIBA-quality players we had at the time were Castro, June Mar, Gabe, Japeth, CStand (NP), Pringle (NP), Blatche (NP), and new guys Bolick and Perez. Plus these performances:

2017 FIBA Asia Cup: 32-point blowout to SoKor, which got us eliminated in the quarterfinals. Hurried team, we were thinking of backing out at the time due to it being in the middle of the PBA season.

2018 Asiad: RoS with Lee, JC, CStand, and Pringle were eliminated by China in the quarters. Also lost to SoKor. Hurried team, same as the 2017 Asia Cup roster.

2019 World Cup: Series of blowouts, one of the worst Gilas teams we ever sent to an international competition, and on top of that, we trained for only two weeks.

We corrected it by installing Tab as the program director, which got us guys like Carl Tamayo, Will Navarro, Calvin Oftana, SJ Belangel, RJ Abarrientos, Jordan Heading, and Juan GDL. Not sure if I can count Dwight Ramos, because as I read here, Chot had been eyeing him for some time. Well, we started from scratch after he was removed as program director.

Then we had the SEA Games debacle in 2022. Combination of lineup and coaching problems.

Well, at least Dy's on the right track of emphasizing roster continuity, combination of youth and vets, and looking at grassroots development. Hope her ideas stick with our program for the men and women.

I agree too. He is retiring from PLDT IRC. He was MVP’s successor in PLDT but under his short leadership the flagship company floundered. Highlighted by that 40 billion excess expense.

                              • we had to take it into consideration that the possible replacement of Grandpa Al Pan should have a good rapport with Grandpa Chualay and the rest of the PBA Grandpas otherwise our hope for a better National Federation will only be an aspiration, a dream.
