Question my bros: Who will sponsor your proposed Gilas U-23 cadet team/pool?
No doubt about that, having a U-23 developmental team is a brilliant idea. I like it as much as most posters here do."A king may move a man, a father may claim a son, but that man can also move himself, and only then does that man truly begin his own game. Remember that howsoever you are played or by whom, your soul is in your keeping alone, even though those who presume to play you be kings or men of power, when you stand before God, you cannot say, 'But I was told by others to do thus,' or that virtue was not convenient at the time. This will not suffice." - King Baldwin IV

Logistics will be difficult as always. But that's supposed to be how golden generations are, it's not something you can pull off anytime. If it's a 10-year plan, just having the team together once in a while (one short tournament a year) is okay. Just look at the chemistry between Kai and Edu. They've just been together for a short time as teenagers, but the chemistry is there. Other countries have pulled it off, study how they did it.
For funding, it's same story as always, we will always be lacking. But again, there are ways if guys will be willing to put the effort to figure it out. Just look at SGA and how they bankroll their team. Then you have the amount spent for Clarkson, that type of spending could go a long way. There's also many youth teams who use crowd funding and are able to travel the world to compete. Then there is merchandising. There are many ways.

Kai's impact will be immense on young local bigs. Not just gilas. No local center has ever intimidated like him on both offense and defense. He need not even dominate like rhe prime jabbar -- 3/4 of what young jabbar contributes is definitely within kaiju's territory.
Now, you can tell and challenge the likes of gagate or demisana that they are mere 6'8-6'9 players, so how come they cannot move, dribble and jump quicker, faster and more explosively than kai? In the nba, even muscled bigs like giannis and shaq can go coast to coast on a dribble drive attack if they want to.
The true value of kai is he comoletely redefined the best qualities of a pinoy big. He has none of the international weaknesses of fajardo, aguilar and slaughter.Last edited by ccharmed; 03-08-2024, 04:34 AM.

Of course its obvious they our players playing in the B-league, KBL & the college players. With regards to our beloved PBA players' availability in that period, let's just pray nalang that they would be available.
This I say, if our Gilas team/pool gets to train/practice & play FIBA or international tournaments (like Jones Cup, others) every year during the June to September period, then I'm confident we can gain or achieve the needed cohesion/chemistry for a national team in a 4-year cycle. If Gilas can hold a 3-week or better a 1-month training camp every year (during the June to September period), then that is good enough already for the program."A king may move a man, a father may claim a son, but that man can also move himself, and only then does that man truly begin his own game. This I say, unless the PBA modifies its calendar, it would really be a hindrance to the progress of our national team. Of course this is not to say that PBA is no help for the national team. We acknowledge that PBA is a good source of our national players ever since.Last edited by JAMSKIE; 03-08-2024, 08:36 AM."A king may move a man, a father may claim a son, but that man can also move himself, and only then does that man truly begin his own game. Any chance for Christian David to Gilas as a local?
Looks legit despite the injuries he had..Noticeably taller than Oftana so the 6'6 listing is spot on. More importantly he moves like a natural wing and in local term "my laro" whenever you see a new player play for the 1st time in person

And if in case he gets FIBA excemption, I doubt about his willingness to play for flag & country.
I would rather try Kai Balungay instead of him."A king may move a man, a father may claim a son, but that man can also move himself, and only then does that man truly begin his own game. While these players are FIBA ineligible, they elevate the level of game in the PBA - Standhardinger, Tautuaa, BGR, Stephen Holt, Perkins, Datu, Villegas, Lucero, Munzon, Sean Anthony, Christian David, Laput.

At the wing, I feel defense is more important than scoring, unless you're as explosive as a JB.
