With the triangle, everyone shares the load and sets up each other so he can get to his spots easier. He's our perfect fit for that MJ/Kobe role. But, it takes very long to master (so many variations). He needs reps on it asap, that way he can still be a plug-and-play player.

If he gets inserted at the last minute again, without being knowledgeable with that system, then all the long-term work as a team is useless.
This is one of my reasons why atleast 15 pool player is a must, I understand CTC reason of having just12 players but we will never know what will happen in 2027… JC still serviceable at 35 years old, still in his last years of his prime competitive basketball.. I will not expect any naturalization candidate until very soon due to other problems our congress must address before this, then JC is a good second option if JB is already washed up in 2027… We should admit that the talent is the main category for success, coaching is secondary… World Cup teams are very tough compare to Asian level competition.. JC prove us last year that we can hang on against world’s best with him, because JC is a world class talent and can hang on vs elite players too… I love Brownlee but I don’t think he will be the same player that we saw today and in 2027… many will change in the next 3 years…

    • Father Time is undefeated. Players and coaches who've been in the business long enough know this. When old age catches up to players, it can arrive suddenly. Guys in their late 30s can break down in an instant. Always have a plan in place.

      • We'll need a lot after next year. We'll especially need succession plans for JB and June Mar.

We'll also have the following questions and concerns:

        1. Who'll be our go-to guy once JB retires?

        2. Once June Mar retires, who's our third center? After that kasi, AJ and Kai will be our only centers in the original pool. Japeth's retired and two years older, Erram's retired, Almazan, Troy, and Sangalang are underskilled. Might as well go with Carino (as a 4/5), or younger guys like Demisana or Gagate. If Phillips were eligible, siya sana.

        3. We need a good defensive PF to partner with Kai in case AJ's out or on the bench and we don't have a 4/5 NP who can defend. Carino and even Balti or heck, Pablo (if he improves his shooting) should be considered. Otherwise, we'll have to bank on Carl improving on that end. Just Carl muna, because we'd want to develop Quiambao to be a true wing.

        4. Who's the new NP? We will need to choose with all of 1 to 3 in mind. Best bet is JC or Ange kung right now. But if we get a JC-type player, we will still need to fill in the 3rd center and defensive PF spot. If we get Ange (even to back up Kai and AJ), we still need to fill in the go-to guy role.

        • I think getting Mike Phillips' FIBA exemption is a must for Gilas moving forward, and as I recall Tim Cone likes his energy and called him a very coachable guy (during the last SEA games when CTC was still an assistant coach). Although I think Motor Mike needs to develop a consistent outside shot and his abillity to finish around the rim needs work. But the dream scenario would be Kouame somehow being allowed to play as a local.

And as for the new NP I think the SBP has no real idea who to get, every year we hear a new name being tossed around from CJ McCullough to Cam Oliver to Nick Rakocevic and now Bennie Boatwright. But I think the SBP will be looking for someone in the mold of Brownlee, player who can play the role of the go to guy of Gilas.

For me I am more intrigued in the possibility of JJ Mandaquit and Andy Gemao playing for Gilas.

For 1 and 4, It’s JC is the next best suit to be next go to guy for Gilas for naturalization… with congress is not currently busy for their political agenda…

For no 2… Only Geo Chiu is the best available big that we can tap… he’s also experienced FIBA campaigner and have size to be back up of Kai and Edu

Sage Tolentino just played a total of 5 games in 2 years.
UAAP teams need to recruit him asap. There is still enough time for him for the Gilas chapter after 2028. He'll be just 25 then....good replacement for JMF by then.

If we need a four, why not Alex Konov? He's young, but a good defender at 3/4 already, as he showed in the U18 two years ago.
IMO they need a couple of legit 3 that's at least 6'6 and a combo forward,so that the system will be more flexible,in terms of tournament needs, and the composition of players of the opposing team.

That would not been a good career move.

Barring any serious injuries or whatever issue that will cause regression, these 2 are the potential take-over guards for Gilas beyond 2027.

                          Sir R1ck; Sir Rodbi,

those two kids had the potential to be part of the next cycle(2027-2032) alongside 17 yr. old Dylan Harper, Lino Marks, Jayden Harper, Chase Robertson, James Sanderson, Tyler Bailey, Mike Philips among others.

as for Sage Tolentino and James Flippin well it all depends on those kids and their family being a 3rd or 4th Generations if they are warm of getting their respective passport considering the likes of Fil-Nation Select and Tumakbo USA are offering to provide the legworks unto the processing room just provide them the original photocopy. We all know it's not free and they do some business stuff to those pinoys who are interested to had a sports career here in the motherland.

as for the coming Manila Live games there's a handful of talents in the U16 and U19..I hope we could watch and see some potentials as well

                          • WIth all those claims of Tamayo going to the MPBL, Im really hoping none of our Gilas players go and play there. Take Baltazar for example he picked up alot of bad habits playing in the MPBL. When he was in Gilas he was very agile with good laterals and closed out well on shooters out on the perimeter but in the MPBL he has slowed down gets blown by guards during pick and roll switches and show little to no effort in closing out on shooters. Another is his outside shooting now isnt as efficient as compared to his Gilas days.

But Tamayo needs to play competitive basketball until June… The question is where he is now going? If there is no offers overseas then playing in the MPBL is the only choice for him now, just to be in condition when Gilas starts their practice in June…
