If you base it on the pic,he's slightly taller than the 6'4 Dwight and 6'8 Tamayo wearing flip flops,no taller than 6'6,probably just a few centimeters above 6'5.

    • Guys, what about Quiambao's wingspan? Does he have good length on his wingspan? If Quiambao has a wingspan that of a 6-foot-8/6-foot-9 player then it's fine for me that his actual height on barefoot is 6-foot-5.

Remember that howsoever you are played or by whom, your soul is in your keeping alone, even though those who presume to play you be kings or men of power, when you stand before God, you cannot say, 'But I was told by others to do thus,' or that virtue was not convenient at the time. This will not suffice." - King Baldwin IV

We'll have to see if he did improve in the coming windows.

We cannot afford to have two defensive liabilities at 4 and 5. Scottie, Dwight, Oftana, Newsome, and maybe Malonzo (if his defense improves) would have to make efforts to prevent drives to the basket (which will lead to open layups or open threes) if we have poor defenders at 4 and 5.

Sorry, I really cannot forget the poor defensive efforts in 2017 against SoKor (blown out by 32, allowed 118 points on 62% from the field, 76% from 3) and Lebanon, even China, in 2018 against Kazakhstan, in 2019 throughout the whole World Cup, and in 2022 against Indonesia. I don't want a repeat of those losses due to poor defense. Also, our best finishes tended to come with good defense (2013 and 2015 FIBA Asia Championship silvers, and this Asiad's gold).
i respect your opinion but i beg to disagree. CTC knows best and i agree with tim. if we did not have kai, junmar,AJ and to some extent japeth, then maybe yes we need kouame. but now we have them, a player like JB is necessary to take us to another level which is a take charge kind of naturalized player.

Yea,but the thing is both Kai and the aging Junmar are not the kind of players really that can anchor's CTCs big guy defense,to some extent AJ but his recurring injury would be a big factor, plus the fact that we all know what's Kai primary concern is,and if GIlas will get in the way of that,he could beg off and now what you have a JF and a very old and tired legs JA in the middle.

I'm actually fine with Brownlee, because like I said, apart from his scoring, ability to carry the offense, and ability to play within the team dynamic, he can also anchor our defense if need be.

It's the replacement I'm concerned about. If we don't get a good bigman defender as our next NP, our success might be contingent on AJ staying available for FIBA competition, and/or Kai's development as a defender. We already know June Mar's a defensive liability, plus the fact that he's currently 34.

As for Kai, he's not there yet as a defender. He has shown flashes of rim protection, but he needs more consistency as to positioning and effort. He turns only 22 in May, so hopefully he works on his defense, especially with Cone there.

            • Gilas Pilipinas begins its quest in the FIBA Asia Cup Qualifiers, and here’s why it matters to coach Tim Cone and the rejigged 12-man roster

Teams are allowed to parade different sets of lineups for each of the three windows: February 2024, November 2024, and February 2025.

In fact, the Philippines fielded 30 different players across its six games in the qualifiers of the previous Asia Cup – the most by any participating teams in that edition.

Out of those 30 players, nine made the current Asia Cup roster.

But this time, things are expected to be different as head coach Tim Cone – tapped by the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas to handle the national team for the long run – plans to keep his 12-man core together for the next four years.

“This team is going to stay together through every window. We play Southeast Asian Games, we play Asian Games, we play World Cup qualifiers, we play FIBA Cup qualifiers, we want to keep this team intact,” said Cone.

              “Because every time we play,
we will grow from either the success or the failure that we have.”

That means program cornerstones Kai Sotto, AJ Edu, Dwight Ramos, Carl Tamayo, and Kevin Quiambao will be able to play alongside each other regularly leading up to the FIBA World Cup in 2027.

Sure, there will be roster changes due to injuries and age – Justin Brownlee and June Mar Fajardo are already 35 and 34, respectively – but essentially, Cone wants to foster continuity that the program lacked in past years.

“If you need to tweak it here and there with personnel changes, then you do that. If I need to tweak the system a little bit, I’ll make tweaks in the system,” said Cone.

“But the foundation will be there. The foundation of the players will be there, the foundation will be there.”

              • I think Cone should build up a pool of 14 rather than 12. Look at what happened now that JMF and AJ are both out.

This is a bit out of left field, but if we're talking about bigs who are familiar with Tim Cone's system, Slaughter is available.

Maybe CTC doesn’t want to break heart of those players that will not make it to the final line up… nakakasama din ng loob for those players that they will value the time for practice just to be left out… like what happened to Thirdy, sumama loob nya when he was not picked in the final 12 line up last World Cup… So CTC already picked sure 12 players until 2027… he will just get players as alternate in his Ginebra team as replacements for those players who will get injured or unavailable… that’s why many think that guys like Tolentino, Ahamnisi might be the replacements in case the original players are not available…

The guys who's going to occupy the rank of no 13 to 16 guys knows that they're practice players and subs,so it doesn't makes sense that feelings get hurt.In the last Superbowl 53 players suits up but no more than 40 played, those players knew why they're there ,no questions or feelings gets hurt its facts. The guys that are not gonna be pick with the final lineup are there to make the team better and leaned to be a good teamate in a short time. Its easier for the coach to pick a player that's already in the system than picking someone outside of that team, its much easier for CTC to turn his head and say Juan you're up and Pedro get ready just in case someone else goes down.

plus these guys are professionals, they know that they might be cut. if team usa will have this same mentality no player would want to play during the windows since none of them will be part of the final line up anyway

players can say no from the onset instead of being a diva.

CTC wants a core group of one-and-done players till 2027.

That initial 12-man list is for this upcoming window. He already mentioned tweaks are still possible, so that’s that.

                            • The solution is really to have a Team B with one of his assistants coaching it. If we are to model our program the same as Iran's, well they have a team B as a feeder to their team A. I wonder why no one even bothered to ask CTC or SBP that. Let team B be u-22 with also a backup naturalized player.

in the bigman position alone, PBA players will either be one of these.

TC will try to rely on Kai primarily at C. Good as he has shown in the B league recently, we still have to see if Kai is up to the task of being our starting Fiba center. Kai also has injury history btw. What if our 3 Cs are injured? Let’s make Tamayo play C?

It’s still the start though. If Balti gets drafted in the PBa next season SMC/SBP will look like bigger asses if they dont include him.
That's why it's good to have someone who can man the bigman position as the NP who succeeds JB. JB can anchor our defense and rebound, but we will need him to carry the scoring load too. Onus on Carl to improve his defense and rebounding as well. Good low-post defender, not so much in team defense and rebounding.
