It seems coach Tim has a fair regard on Mason Amos whom he once described as a "6-foot-7 Allan Caidic".
Mason Amos should be a regular for Gilas Team B if SBP will establish such. The way I see it, CTC seems interested with the kid to see if he can develop a game like CStand's, only with a reliable perimeter game. For now, Mason seems at least 5-7 years away from that.

    • How true Amos & Abando is being considered as reserved? I'm hoping Lopez & one of SJ or RJ will also be considered. TC should also find a 7ft NP for our team if they don't like Kwam. We'll never know what could happen in the future, especially with the injuries of EDU plus the aging Junmar.

it all depends on CTC and the coaching staff as they have full authority on the lineup that they wanted. but knowing tim, considering the very limited timeline to prepare for games, CTC will always prefer someone who knows his system. maybe during off season he will train some younger guys since its a 4 year program. but during windows where team practice is limited, CTC will take those who knows his system.

Ange has played for Cone, though, and has played with everyone in the core 12, except for Quiambao, so learning the system won't be much of an issue for them.

I trust the coaching staff on JB, though. Can carry our team on offense, and can anchor our defense. That's the important part, he can cover for Kai and June Mar on defense.

oh yeah in asian games. so theres a small chance for him. specially if SBP can get an exemption for him. but if CTC will take him for the naturalized spot, then chances are none to slim since CTC's offense requires a catalyst and a go-to guy, where he can take over.

            • Tim a fan of the Iranian program

              Cone explains compact pool

Cone said the Iran program also had a compact pool similar to how Gilas is doing it now in the run-up to the Fiba Asia Cup 2026 qualifiers.

For Cone, having a smaller pool would lead to a lot of cooperation with the basketball stakeholders in the country.

“That was the idea. We come in, we have less preparation time but less disruption and the preparation time will be cumulative. In other words, we will use the first window to prepare us for the second window, and so forth,” said Cone.

Better if that go-to can defend the interior, since we especially need that. If the go-to is not really that good of a defender, Kai has to take a great step on improving his defense, especially considering that AJ has gotten hurt a lot. We'll have to see if he did improve in the coming windows.

We cannot afford to have two defensive liabilities at 4 and 5. Scottie, Dwight, Oftana, Newsome, and maybe Malonzo (if his defense improves) would have to make efforts to prevent drives to the basket (which will lead to open layups or open threes) if we have poor defenders at 4 and 5.

Sorry, I really cannot forget the poor defensive efforts in 2017 against SoKor (blown out by 32, allowed 118 points on 62% from the field, 76% from 3) and Lebanon, even China, in 2018 against Kazakhstan, in 2019 throughout the whole World Cup, and in 2022 against Indonesia. I don't want a repeat of those losses due to poor defense. Also, our best finishes tended to come with good defense (2013 and 2015 FIBA Asia Championship silvers, and this Asiad's gold).

Pinoy fans won't simply accept any excuse from a Gilas coach everytime Gilas loses. Excuses such as "this is just a learning process for the team" or "winning isn't everything, we will learn more from losing than from winning" won't suffice to Pinoy fans.

It's somewhat a curse for any Gilas coach that basketball is so popular in the Philippines.

In short our Gilas coach is always pressured to win every game, mapa friendly or exhibition or tuneup games lang yan or actual tournament games.

i am not that sold with Bennie that is why there is no D in Bennie Boatwright, Magnolia's import is defensively good but limited on offense, though the guy is young and can still improve,

That poor defense is a massive red flag for me also, which is why I'm not sold as well. That limits the lineups we can build with him without our frontline getting attacked every single time.

Better if we get a defender so that the paint doesn't get attacked as much, and it makes the perimeter defenders' lives easier.

KJ McDaniels, Suleiman Braimoh, Thomas Robinson, Rakocevic, Rahlir Hollis Jefferson maybe better options than Boatwright... Those imports can play both ends on the floor...

and his offense is not that top notch against team that can defend well, it's not i am being bitter but if brownlee was able to play i have a good feeling that they can win that series, it was sweep but its close, while in the magnolia series Bey was able to limit him from games 3 to 6, but SMB's local lineup is too deep for Magnolia and Bey also lacks the offensive traits that can carry a team
