Abbasi granted exemption because aside he was living in Taiwan since 8, He played for a Taiwanese pro club.. Kouame had a chance if he stays little bit longer, but PBA didn’t let him to stay until he will get that exemption case… it stops his residency when he decided to play in France.. he might represent Philippines there by heart, but he played for a French league… that is a no no for FIBA
Tyler Quincy Dorsey born Feb. 18, 1996 Ribeit Academy in Los Angeles California, then transferred to St. John Bosco @ Bellflower, California, then in his Senior Year transferred at his hometown in Pasadena @ Maranatha HS, his College career started @ Univ. of Oregon from 2015 to 2017. Played @ the NBA with the Atlanta Hawks and Memphis Grizzlies from 2017 to 2019, played for Maccabi Tel-Aviv from 2019 to 2021 and only involved in the Greek Basketball League for only a year in 2021 then after a year played for Dallas Mavericks for 5 months. Currently he is playing for Fenerbache Becko handled by his former Greek U18 coach a future Hall of Famer(?) Dimitrious Itoudis.

TQD is in the same breath as JC and Jalen because of their lineage but I think despite acquiring a Greek passport during his youth days, I think the basis for not granting an exemption for the Senior Level is that he doesn't live full-time(?) at Greece and doesn't had a very strong local connection despite his mother being a half-Greek herself.

but I had a gut feeling that eventually the dude may get his exemption but not now.

As for AK34 despite not having a single Filipino blood but has a strong local connection having his own permanent(?) residency/house, studied HS and College here.

well, I just received that the PBA has a chance to tweak some eligibility ruling somewhere down the road because of so many different request all over.

it Ain't confirmed yet maybe because it was only blurted out during informal gatherings amongst those Grandpas during their usual Beer time.

let's be patient to AK34 for now. he certainly deserve that exemption ahead of JC, JB and Kuya Andray.

    • 1st step in Ange’s FIBa exemption case is for the PBA to allow him to play as a local, kinda fubar that his own domestic league doesnt recognize him as a local

Correct… Dorsey didn’t fulfill his residency in Greece… now, If we want Ange to be a local player, he should continue his residency here and play for our domestic leagues, particularly PBA.. One of the cases granted exemption is Mamadou N’Diaye, no whatsoever blood of UAE.. but he already lived in Sharjah, UAE, played with UAE 3x3 team and playing in UAE Pro club there w/ Al Nasr… I don’t know how many years Ndiaye resides in UAE… maybe better that if we want Kouame to be naturalized, copy the route of Ndiaye of UAE… maybe playing for 3x3 is not a bad thing if we want Kouame to be a local player…Kouame is eligible to play for 3x3 as local anyway… we have a 3x3 FIBA Asia cup in May… We should push to include Kouame in 3x3 alongside Vosotros and TNT crew to help his exemption case…

If PBA will not help, 3x3 tournaments will help… Ndiaye of UAE granted local status because of continuous playing for their national team even in 3x3…. Include Kouame in 3x3 Gilas team to continue his residency serving until he will classified as local in the future…

were hoping that those Grandpas may somehow wake up in righteous side of their respective bed.

a 3x3 inclusion is a good idea if such eligibility ruling on 5x5 are not yet on their agenda for now.

I think when GrandPa Al. P already done with the NSA because of his retirement thing in the mid-years(hoping no extensions please) and a new younger Pres. with a fresh ideas may somehow occupy the seat then maybe just maybe eligibility on AK34 on our main domestic will be a reality.

with that Dorsey case, even though he represented Greece in the U18, the possibility that our own hafus may not be eligible for the Senior team if FIBA strictly implement that strong local connection well the best way moving forward is let those overseas lad to come over every summer and play for any domestic league just to make sure.

I\m fully aware that serious money are needed for those kids to come over but we already invested on them so ituloy ituloy na lang para wala masabi ang FIBA na yan just in case there's a worse case scenario..wag naman sana. but we need to anticipate for any eventuality,

I can understand that Douthit, Blatche even JB might be too good for our locals but is Ange really that much of a threat? He could go to an independent team not a farm team who won't trade him for peanuts so he could join up with Jap/CS/JF/Tautua

With the way he's playing right now in France, they might just be justified in their paranoia.I still hope they tap him during offseason.

Is that top French league? Or just a minor league?

What do you think about level of competitiveness? Is that better than CBA, B-League or NBL? It’s like PSL in the Philippines right? Assuming PBA is 1st division while MPBL is a 2nd division level in the Philippine basketball…

I think the level of competition in the French pro league where Kouame is playing isn't far behind the level of competition in the B-league, PBA or KBL. It might be slightly less competitive than B-league, KBL ,& PBA. But I think the key here is Kouame gets the exposure playing against good size opponents in the French division 3 Pro league (especially among the locals) as compared to the smaller size opponents Kouame will be playing against if he plays in the PBA, B-league & KBL.

                          • I guess Brownlee's 3-month suspension from basketball is a blessing in disguised as he is able to rest his body from wear & tear, plus he is able to heal his foot injury (remember, he played hurt in the 2023 Asian Games which is the reason he ingested prohibited substance to minimise the pain of the foot injury). I think with his age, those few months of complete rest would be vital to prolong his basketball career.

Next window is only two games too. He's got plenty of time to rest till the OQT and the last two ACQ windows.

I just hope he gets to play his natural SF position.

I think the level of play in the French 3rd division is ahead of that in China, so that's good exposure for Ange.
