  • For the people who watches the NCAA, you guys think Clint Escasmis could be a PG prospect for Gilas? Seems to me he has a good feel for the game and good size.

For the growth of promising Filipino basketball players, KBL is good, and B League is good only for money. This is an irrefutable fact. #GilasYouth #GilasPilipinasBasketball
Things can change but so far I agree 100%.

      • Quimbao and Philips should be Gilas mainstays for the.future , give them their reps ...build core cohesion

        future Gilas combo forward

Beside's its been proven that talent alone on a stacked team cant win you a championship, why not learn from one of the best coaches to ever do it in the uaap while he's still there. This game pretty much shows how overrated coach gold is anyways, besides not calling the shots on defense, doesnt make necessary adjustments leading to questionable playcalling. Imagine not winning it all with that stacked team geez.

Young coach pa naman si Goldwin, but he has to expand his playbook.
If Goldwin's to coach Gilas, it's best as an assistant muna just because of defense.

I think coach Tom Chua is the defense guy of UP.

I believe a lot of the growth that KQ achieved is a result of his Gilas experience. It should be a no-brainer to give our really young prospects Gilas experience early and often.

I hope so. He had a decent record in the PBA.

I agree. Internationally it showed he needed to develop his perimeter game because he was a bit short to play inside. Secondly, he wasn't much of an offensive threat so eventually his passing game was nullified because everybody knew he was always going to pass.

same with tamayo, iirc he played for gilas seniors team before he even got to play for up in the uaap

                    • This probably we want PBA or SBP to do for our youth players

Yes and aside from that, overlooked is how young players get exposed to older great players (and not just gilas but from opponents as well). They learn the details: approach to the game, work ethic, mentality, etc of legends. This is what separates the good from the great.

It's invaluable for young players who are not yet pros to get that type of knowledge.

                        • To those who have watched a No. of his games with Phoenix in the PBA, what's your take on Ken Tuffin's game? How is his defense? Can he be anywhere near the defensive skills of a prime Gabe Norwood?

"A king may move a man, a father may claim a son, but that man can also move himself, and only then does that man truly begin his own game. Remember that howsoever you are played or by whom, your soul is in your keeping alone, even though those who presume to play you be kings or men of power, when you stand before God, you cannot say, 'But I was told by others to do thus,' or that virtue was not convenient at the time. This will not suffice." - King Baldwin IV

He isn't Gabe Norwood type of defender yet, like his defense against Jalalon and Baroca where not sufficient. He is a rookie so thats fine. He has energy to distract but don't have Gabe's athleticism but have way better shooting at 41% 3pt

So he's more of a taller Dondon Hontiveros with shooting and defense?

                              • Time flies I still remember posting a picture here of Tuffin in high school, believe it or not he was a poor shooter then ,
the one advantage he had then is he was already a multiple sport athletes, and moved very well .(cricket and hurdles). He started basketball late , and as such was snubbed by big colleges , ( to their regret).
a.lesson to what to look for in prospects, it's potential, not simply those who are already developed who've benefited to significant exposure ( junior star in local high schools).
