I think for now it's good to try TC with the support of SMC to handle Gilas for the Olympic qualifier. If we are competitive in the tournament, they may extend it up to the 2027 World Cup. TC has the advantage of being liked and respected by all basketball parties involved in PH basketball, from PBA/SBP to fans and players themselves. So maybe he's the key to PH's success in international competition. I hope they don't overlook non-PBA players and add some of the brightest and youngest coaches in collegiate ranks to their staff.

Prior to all this, many people dismissed TC because his style is “outdated”. They keep pointing out his triangle offense as ineffective and blah blah.
You can tell people don’t watch CTC-coached teams at all.
CTC is the most adapted PBA coach IMO. Even years ahead of Chot who is too stubborn.

obviously the different structure around it is super far from ideal, (e.g PBA doesn't use FIBA rules , has limited number of FiBA WC level and size players in league, age of players etc etc is a super disadvantage unless this larger structure and system flaw is addressed, no amount of good coaching or togetherness culture will make the Philippines a competitive world level team.
you have to remember despite our success the Philippines hasnt produced even 1 NBA player or Div 1 starter or Euro league div 1 rotation player

The thing with Tab that differentiates him is he actually has world level FIBA coaching experience for many years, this cannot be underestimated, cause obviously the tactical maturity was build to adiopt for that unique FIBA world level environment. One learns and uses different tactics depending on the environment to win.
It's actually the same process for learning to be effective in any specific environment, it's still exposure, having said that of course if Cone was fortunate enough to have opportunity to coach say NZ in WC for 4 world cups , i dont doubt he would do a good job and gain the necessary experience , unfortunately that's just not reality

Hypothetical question: If we had also qualified for the Olympics, would the IOC Executive Board have permitted Clarkson, Brownlee, and Kouame to play together? Would they have allowed additional individuals deemed ineligible by FIBA, such as Mikey or RH Jr., assuming the latter obtains a Philippine passport?
According to the Olympic Charter (Rule 40-41) Any competitor in the Olympic Games must be a national of the country of the NOC which is entering such competitor. A competitor who is a national of two or more countries at the same time may represent either one of them, as he may elect. xxx All matters relating to the determination of the country which a competitor may represent in the Olympic Games shall be resolved by the IOC Executive Board.
I apologize if this question has already been asked and answered before. If the IOC allows heritage players to play for the PH, the world might be surprised how strong our Olympic team could be.

I hope and pray that someday Balunggay, Philips, Ange and Clarkson will be considered local in Fiba. Let us just be patient and give the right reasons to Fiba. Asiad gold was a great achievement for our team which is most analyst called Team B. Now this is a big moral booster to our stronger team A in the upcoming Fiba Asia cup and OQT.sigpic
