Problem is FIBA guidelines for exception to an age cutt of rule (U16) puts emphasis on establishing residency in one's formative years ( in teens at least while still in school). If mere residency years is only criteria then all Japanese B league resident imports will eventually be exempted which clearly isn't correct.

Note the purpose of the Hagop U16 rule is to encourage youth development basketball heritage within the country.

As a rule of thumb, one either has to
    1. Represent BG at U18 (latest )ex. Wright or
2 enter as an 18 year old freshman in Philippine colleges for 5 years residency (e,.g. Greg)

        • A long interview with Chot Reyes. This is a good watch for people with a very strong opinion of him. Interesting to know that he was a multi-sport athlete, started working at 2nd year college (had a baby with his eventual wife), was UAAP mythical team along with Magsanoc, Caidic, Codinera, Capacio and already was coaching 3 teams at 26.

Yeah, Cone's not the guy to carry our team forward as the head coach. I think the casuals should see this. Reliant on veterans to a fault, and sometimes adjustments are late. Good on preparation, though, and an effective defensive coordinator.

We need a long-term competent coach after this, starting with the February window.

That late adjustments can be credited to years of being domesticated in the PBA with minimal international exposure. Not only CTC but most of our local coaches.

              • so basically we go to the semis with a core of brownlee, abay, scottie, oftana, newsome and perez off the bench (yeah japeth, kouame and alas had minutes but those were but cameos and non of them were effective in the big games)

wish this team had will navarro on it, what a sight that would be to seem him and oftana alternating at small forward slot or better yet playing together as multi-dimensional wings

                • Charles tiu is wrong, kazemi is still avaluable piece of iran team he was the top big, and the top brownlee stopper this game, thanks for his layup though
To becomes Asia's Best, we need to compete against the World's Best..
                  1 Big 4 small > 5 out offense.

                  • Was just able to watch the whole game now. Gilas varied their sets well in the first half. Ran the triangle for I approximate around 40 percent for their possessions. They ran some horns sets and DHOs and generally moved the ball well (better than a chot reyes team as everyone already observes). Again, impressive for a two week team.

And in the fourth, very good adjustment by Iran's coach running a highschool box and one defense against Brownlee. Coupled with their high paced offense that targeted JMF with conventional and Spanish PnRs again and again.

I did not see one good set for Gilas against that box and one. Iran just came up short. Anyway, even with a watered down Iran, a win is a win.

Iran was already running that Box and one D at the start of the fourth quarter. Yet TC did not really know how to handle it. They looked clueless how to attack that D, they tried either letting JB set the screen in space for the ballhandler, or tried making JB bring the ball down, but was generally unsuccessful. We saw our lead vanish. Good thing the breaks of the game went to Gilas in the end.

                        The million dollar question:

Will this coach get the SMC/PBA group’s blessing?

I'd like to see that Winston guy in the 1st window of the 2025 FIBA Asia Cup qualifiers. He's a good size natural point guard who was an explosive scorer at La Salle.
"A king may move a man, a father may claim a son, but that man can also move himself, and only then does that man truly begin his own game. Remember that howsoever you are played or by whom, your soul is in your keeping alone, even though those who presume to play you be kings or men of power, when you stand before God, you cannot say, 'But I was told by others to do thus,' or that virtue was not convenient at the time. This will not suffice." - King Baldwin IV

It’s possible because the SMC/PBA-backed SBP will do anything for representation.

Hell, Rivero and Tuffin might get invites too.

The only ones abroad who are not easy to replace are Edu, Kai, Dwight, Tamayo, and Abando.

We could use a guy like Tuffin. Schonny could be good as well.

Nope , unfortunately not , there is a reason why Tuffin entered the PBA draft and not b league money.
do note even if a fil foreigner is technically eligible, unless he gets clearance from FIBA as a local, by fielding his name in a roster for a FIBA competition, he won't get official clearance
and thats why these guys wont ever be inclided in Gilas , or else the stakeholders who run both the PBa /SBP will lose players....to overseas. Kind of messed up really.
