  • I think Gilas already has a formidable pool of bigs for the future (Kai Sotto, AJ Edu, Carl Tamayo, Justine Baltazar, Mason Amos, Mike Phillips, Kai Balunggay, Alex Konov, Seven Gagate, Luis Pablo to name a few). What the national team needs now are good sized wings that can shoot and create their own shots off the dribble like Franz Wagner.

tamayo's too slow to play the wing position, but then again maybe slimming down and learning to play the position overseas will help

would've been great if he, baltazar and luis villegas sign with overseas pro teams and make the switch to the small forward slot and learn on the fly.

baltazar will just slowly rot playing center in the mpbl - all because his padrino has him on a (sorry to say) a leash.

        • Damn Chot is annoying -

I know some peope are saying, ang layo pa ng Pilipinas pero I beg to disagree, ang lalakas na nga ng mga to(spain, france, etc) - these other teams they are getting better and stronger and we're right there.

take a look at the standings, the improvement over the years, we're right there, sumasabay ang pilipinas, di tayo naiiwan, we're right there

what if we had Clarkson and Kai for 1 month.

what if the referee didn't make those terrible calls that led to his (clarkson) fouling out, what if we had clarkson endgame against dr

Well its just one rich guy way of saying to Long "Anal"Hair that this is one player you can't draft in the PBA and play in any of your SMC teams.More than likely since SMC is in charge they will not take anymore of those players from overseas and probably make the U16,17,18 and 19 players signed that they will be drafted in the PBA and can't play overseas period. That would be the best solution the PBA of preventing more players play overseas.

Next to Kai and AJ, he's the next big thing, and i dont mean his physical stature.

              • I think, after seeing Germany and Serbia score a lot in the post, that post play is still important in international basketball, especially in mismatches. Dwight's and Carl's skill in the post will come in handy here. However, I do think that post play will have to come from the other positions, because we do not have another player of June Mar's combination of size and skill down low.

Also, size and interior defense from our bigs is still important. We're lucky to have a guy like AJ Edu. We'll need more rim protectors and interior defenders, or size across the board, as Rds had suggested earlier.

When was the last time Chot and a pinoy coach beat Korea? 2013 and that required Jimmy Alapag to play like Allen Iverson in The 2001 NBA Finals Game 1.

Get your facts straight. You’re just a hater.

While I want to move on from Tab because the SBP is headed by idiots, we shouldn’t overlook his ideology. He is a proven international coach who has led NZ to a 4th place finish in the WC and almost beat China with Jordan for the Asia Cup gold back in 2011.

Our local coaches have nothing on Tab. How many teams outside the Philippines have contacted any of our local coaches for a head coaching position? None.

We even defeated Lebanon with Wael Arakji and Ali Haidar in the same tournament.

Honestly, Tab haters are daft and just hate for the sake of it.

At saka, Tab's lineup construction should be a prototype. Good defensive wings like Will Navarro, versatile defensive players like Dwight and Justine Baltazar, and anchored by a rim protector like Ange Kouame. It's also seen in his Ateneo teams.

Plus, we saw UAAP local coaches step up their game too against Tab. Aldin Ayo had a pressing defense, and developed a movement offense with UST. I do have qualms about his lineup construction especially at the wing, though. Sacrifices defensive versatility and size at 3 for contribution to the press. Goldwin Monteverde also had a fast-paced attack (which halts in the halfcourt), anchored by an aggressive defense, not only through pressing, but in the halfcourt as well (as seen with UP's blitzing of screens). I do have issues with the lineups, but I do like his willingness to use taller players like Lucero and Belmonte at 3. Even Carl played 3 with UP. Both coaches used their tactics to good effect against Tab's Ateneo, getting one each against Tab.

Tactics and roster construction evolved, e. Better defensive schemes, more movement-oriented offenses, and we're seeing taller players in each lineup, especially at 3, 4, and 5 (thanks to the FSA's). Tab's Ateneo contributed to that. If that's not doing anything for Philippine basketball, well screw me.

Thats the only game that I can say Chot exceeded expectation. But didnt Chot get blown out by Korea again the next time they played?

And you seemed to forget all of Douthits play before that.

You also got it wrong that DHonts played garbage time. He played 20 minutes. A guy close to retirement played major SG minutes for that team.

SMC abandoned that team. They couldnt make Ping quit because he is Vics son in law. But make no mistake even then they didnt like Tab.

I think another way for SMC to recruit these overseas players is to have them sign a contract as SMC's ambassadors....they will be making commercials for San Miguel products.....they will be using San Miguel products.....that's one way to get around the PBA.........

How so,they also play for commercial teams overseas,it would be a conflict of interest. There's no other way around it,SMC now holds the power,if Long Hair and RSA is as aggressive businessmen as they were portrayed, then all they gotta do tighten the noose, and since they control the local media they can always portray the international players as greedy men,who serves the foreigner over their countrymen.I think they will slowly but surely shut down the overseas Pinoy participation and to make sure no more talented homegrown talent going or even thinking of going, they will be pressured to sign a memo if they want to play for Gils they have to be drafted into the PBA and no less than 10 years or so of servitude on one of the SMC teams. The experiment on Balti being called selfish and non commital is underway, its gonna be their formula for the others.
