I am sorry but that NBA all-star game "slash" practice spree left a bad taste in my mouth.. the head of the MVP Sports Foundation then was yes Al Panlilio..
There is a lot of what if with Panlilio’s reign with SBP. For instance what if he did make a move of appealing FIBA in changing JC’s naturalised status to local…. He can cite the cases of Ignas Brazdeikis (Lithuania) and Eric Gordon (Bahamas)… we are the host he could have made it as leverage…

    • Outside Tab, I think Alden Ayo is a good candidate IF he quits the PBA and joins Gilas 24/7.. His system relies on defense and 3 point shooting

inferior local talent among the club teams? and in the case of smb and ros coaches who don't know their x's and o's?

do you really think a gilas lineup will get creamed in the easl or jones cup?

but anyway, so the consensus here is that to win we need a foreign coach? as simple as that?

Coaching should be skills/credentials-based rather than nationality/birth right-based. The ban on foreign coaches is solely nationality/birth right-based with a few and stiff exemptions. This ban is just a tacit admission that foreign coaches can displace local coaches in their jobs.

I'd argue they didn't take the competition seriously, because they don't think it's worth more than winning another PBA title. Same attitude with the Jones Cup. Which I think is quite disrespectful to the other leagues that wanted to build something of a Champions League clone.

That is just an excuse they throw out there its not like they didnt take the competition seriously is more of they undersestimated the competition. In case of the recent Jones Cup the PBA was extended an invitation and they first asked Magnolia to be its representative since they went undefeated during the pre season games but they declined since they didnt have an import yet. And so ROS, the second best team in the pre season, was tapped to go to Taiwan since they already had an import then. If the PBA wasnt taking the Jones Cup seriously then they would have sent Northport, Blackwater orTerrafirma .

If anything, using his system was a convenient excuse to sabotage Coach Gee. What head coach will do well given a mandate to use another system? Which was probably brought about by the gripes of RSA favorite Arwind.

What I remember from Dickel was he was able to maximize Don Trollano. In his term, Don posting up smaller guards was a feature of their offense. He was forced to trade Trollano since the management wanted Parks. I don't remember much of his stint with Parks.
Dickel was hated by the tnt players due to his strict rule regarding nutrition/fitness. But it paid dividends, the team was ripped during his tenure

They didn't take it that seriously. Anybody who looked at the lineups of the pre season understood that many stars were missing and missing even the starting centers of weaker teams. Knowing Santillan's stats and performance the previous season I knew the competition was weak when he produced eye popping numbers. If he wasn't effective against PBA starters I doubt he would be against the Jones Cup teams. Kouame is also in poor form. The guy needs to have a surgery to get back to his peak form. You know you'll lose in the Jones Cup if your best big is Santillan and your best guard is Nambatac and one of your imports is playing injured.

Sir, they fully known their x’s and o’s the American way…the NBA way.

likely this will be the last time cone will take helm of gilas.

This could be Cone' s last stint as Gilas HC, Boss Chua might be the chief for the long run

                            • i'm not too concerned about this if this is only for the asian games. this is prolly the best they could come up with on short notice.

i'd be worried if this is going to be the long term setup for the national team as well. long hair could easily pull something like only getting PBA players & local coaches for gilas

Unleas something happened, im pretty sure this is for long term already. Maybe change with personnel but smc taking over was rumored since last year and we've some hints since thrn till now.

Smc has money and willing backer, so we should be happy on that bit. I wonder when and who will teplace panlilio? I like ctc, i dont want him getting panlilio's "hindi sya pinoy speech". And since long hair is the team manager, i hope we dont hear from bcap as well even if the nt coach is ctc.
