DR is definitely the toughest team in the Group Phase. Despite that we were 2 possessions away from a win.

Aside from winning 2 games (Angola & Italy are winnable), Philippines/SBP must try its best to surpass FIBA's expectations in hosting this year's World Cup. So satisfied that they allow Jalen Green (if he all of the sudden sees the value in playing for Gilas), Mikey Williams, Justin Brownlee and Jordan Clarkson play together in 2024.

PG - Jalen Green, Mikey Williams, CJ Perez
SG - Jordan Clarkson, Dwight Ramos
SF - Justin Brownlee, Carl Tamayo, Jamie Malonzo
PF - AJ Edu, Japeth Aguilar
C - Junemar Fajardo, Kai Sotto

Next step/priority for SBP after this WC is to reclassify JC, Mikey & JB as locals then we can possibly play Jalen as our NP.

Pogoy, Parks and Heading ain't cutting it as our second option in Paris.

Jaimie Malonzo is a non factor so far,I rather have Navarro instead or even a Michael Philips,Brownlee is already showing old man legs syndrome,no on him rather have Angelo Kouame if treated as a local, gotta go big and strong.

1 ball is not enough for JC and Jalen.

Two threats better than one, as shown in the DR game earlier.

Double JC, Jalen gets open..... Help comes, drop pass to cutting Brownlee/Ramos.... nothing happening on offense Mikey saves the possession.

First game jitters perhaps? CJ, Jamie and Kai might be X-factors vs Angola.

CJ will definitely be a factor, that means Kiefer will have a longer playing time to minimize the TOs,so that means Scottie will sit on the bench longer.Wished we have Parks now ,they badly needed him in the DR game.Kai would score but I don't expect a double double,he barely rebounds nowadays.

It's been 4 years since they last played Angola. CJ definitely reeling to feast on Angola's defense. And as expected, Zeinab is the biggest mistake in Ray Parks' career.

If four or five players in Gilas scores in double digits, then it will be a fiesta for Gilas.Malonzo gotta earn his time in,he was there for so long but,he was like invisible man in there. If only Ray Parks have his head 100% basketball,Gilas would have a JC down to the last minute and who knows, what could have been.

Nah. It's still picking NU over Georgia Tech for me.

NU covered his dad’s medical bills (cancer) right?

                          That was the deal breaker.

                            - 4th place finished in the World Cup (the highest place that the Tall Blacks ever achieved)
                            - 2x silver medal finish in the FIBA-Asia Cup
                            - 5x NZ NBL champion
                            - 2x NZ coach of the year

Clearly, there are many better coaches than him. However, telling people that Tab is a scam just shows how ignorant are we in international basketball.

"again if he really is an elite coach why is not other nt getting him?"

                            - AFAIK, he had offers from Taiwan and Qatar. I was wondering why he chose the Philippines these two richer countries?

However, I have to share the same sentiments with you - we need to move on from him. Find a foreign coach that is an international campaigner as well.

Anyway, if I were to choose, I will pick a foreign coach from the Latin Americas or has an experience coaching in the Latin Americas. IMO, Gilas, in terms of playing style, is much closer to Latin Americans

Personally I want a Latin American coach.
I concur with ja.he and greenarcher that a Latin American coach suits us better than Europe. Fast play, and making things ugly for the opponent suits us better. Just focus on early offense sets and moving the ball if the early offense is stopped. We need a deep rotation of energetic players, though, and adjust to slower low-post guys.

One thing I do think we should take from Tab's team is size at 3 and 4, the Will Navarro and Carl Tamayo types, even Francis Lopez at 3. Not a fan of 3-guard lineups, unless the third guard is someone like a Dwight Ramos. Defensive versatility like Kouame, Balti, Navarro and Dwight. Also, we need to emphasize a strong defense built on timely rotations, just add enough physicality (which is not an element of Tab's team).

                            • My dream coaching staff for Philippines is this :

Head coach : Erik Spoelstra (Miami Heat)

                              Assistant coaches:

                              Chip Engelland (Oklahoma City)
                              Jimmy Alapag (Sacramento)
Mike Magpayo (UC - Irvine (NCAA))

We need a coach who can properly execute a 5-out motion offense system.
