i remember tab saying something along the lines that going to ateneo would be better for his development compared to playing overseas (i disagree with this) but don't remember him saying he could go straight to the nba afterwards. but yes, he should be criticized for that.

as for his tenure with the national team, he has show that he can accomplish equal or more than chot with far less support from the pba/sbp. starting from the silver medal in 2015 fiba asia with the team B or team C of PBA players, to 2021 teams with not a single pba player and high-level NP. i think that's what the issue is with most fans.

yeah that sounds like ateneo. he's making it sound like ateneo (or tnt or whoever) is going to concentrate on developing kai instead of winning uaap/pba titles, i doubt that happens. and as for kai's development, it'll never be better if he's facing inferior competition. going against geo chiu in practice regularly might've worked for him in high school but that's not enough to get to the next level

also to be fair iskati has been exceptional since he joined gilas aside from those freethrows, while kiefer hasn't been very effective the past 3 years

Parks has more haters. They call him Barbie Ray. I find it to be unreasonable when his scoring outburst, usually, is the reason why Gilas has been able to pull off wins against Iran and Senegal.

I see him as an important piece for the team for that reason alone.

Tab is treated like royalty here and kinda deserves it but when people are quiet when Ateneo got destroyed in the WUBS what does that tell you? Personally I think a group of fans have blinders on and only hate on the PBA/Chot/SBP but they do not see the bigger more systemic issues we really need to fix in order for the country to truly compete at a global level. And again, once Tab said that Kai needed to go to Ateneo to make the NBA I automatically saw him as part of the problem and we cant move forward as a program if our leaders are endorsing nonsense for there own personal gain.

LOL. What do you want us to do, riot? Losing is just part of the game, how important that competition anyway? It's nothingburger compared to what Tab has achieved and contributed to Philippine basketball already. You're talking like there's a huge stake in that loss.

Judging how Kai barely improved his game despite him playing in superior leagues, he might just as well play with Tab. Tab would hone his skill and make him a better player. Sure, that might be terrible idea financially, but given how mediocre of a player he still is, it's not the worse thing that could happen to him.

Exactly my point. I remember when Tab lost to Monteverde ( a rookie local coach) and the users here all crawled up to their little hiding places. Somehow, basketball fans here couldn't wrap their head around a local coach beating their demi-god (Tab).

2019 WC was an embarassment, Kiefer,Paul Lee, Pogoy and Barocca, all looked out of place the whole tournament. They were playing against world class Teams and Paul Lee didnt even had the decency to get into proper shape. Mas in-shape pa un mga FIBA refs lol Then Pogoy and Barocca despite being much smaller compared to opposing guards were also much slower Lol And then there's Kiefer who used the tournament to get back in shape for NLEX Hahahaha
And the best part was, in all our games it was The Dean who called the game as analyst WTF. Had to watch everything on mute. Im pretty sure Josh Bett did his best not to laugh on Quinito's takes.

Tab definitely upped the level of basketball here and is hell of a good coach to be fair but he isnt a panacea for sure.

Tbh of the players ateneo has produced in the coach Tab era, none of them have been game changers. Thirdy is probably the best product from Ateneo and not like his development has been extreme. I mean it’s a hypothetical with other factors but Kai playing against stronger competition is going to improve him more than playing in the uaap.
