Junmar was very good in the 2016 Olympic Qualifying Tournament. I think in the window qualifiers of the 2019 World Cup, Junmar was did fine overall. During the World Cup itself, I think he did ok, not so frustrating & nothing exemplary as well.

I think some people are just so disappointed & dissatisfied with junmar's FIBA & international basketball stint mainly becoz of high expectation him being a many time MVP in the PBA. Imagine, he holds the PBA record of the player with the most number of MVP awards (6 MVP awards). Yet in Asian basketball, he is just another big man out there (as coach Tab Baldwin put it).
He (JMF) is also affected by modern small ball era GSW implemented last decade... If he played in the era that bigs is the first priority then JMF might be effective in FIBA too.... Look at China today, they can still produced quality bigs but slow for modern basketball era, Hence most them become ineffective in FIBA competitions... Today, Chinese basketball is become obsolete in today's era, even they have hard time against Bahrain.... Even Haddadi is become liability today in Iran than asset, The only asset Haddadi today is his basketball IQ, that's why he's still irreplaceable in Iran basketball....

Absolutely no way a PBA led player national team ( Brownlee, Jap, etc etc) can compete vs this team, which begs the question , why do we have the WC pool we have again LOL
I'd rather take Abando over Wright due to Abando's potential and Wright's poor performances in FIBA.

Honestly, the only useful FIBA-eligible local PBA players at this point are Japeth, Scottie, Newsome, Perez, Malonzo, Oftana, and Marcio. Any others are not that useful, or have passed their usefulness date.

            • After this World Cup, I think Mark Belmonte should get a look. 6'6", long, can defend 2-4 at least, has upside to be a wing due to his quickness, handles, and flashes of shooting, and has some potential to be a shot creator.

              Maybe a Will Navarro 2.0?

Me too. I'll take Abando over Wright.
Wright may be better than Abando at this point. Wright has the experience & he is already in his peak while Abando is not yet in his prime. But if we consider future national team service, I think Abando should be the logical choice. Wright who is in his early 30's might be on a downhill while Abando may be bound for some improvement.

Besides, Wright hasn't really lived up to our expectation playing for Gilas in the last 5 years or so.

Bro, I think he's referring to Belmonte being considered as a prospect for Gilas cadets after the 2033 World Cup.

BTW, guys do U think Belmonte is the better tall wingman as of now compared to Chico Briones?

I see chicco as more ready defensive wise.. he needs to be a secondary playmaker for up. Yup for mark needs to work more and prove that he is gilas material..baka ibangko lang ni chot eh ahha

I agree, Chicco is better right now, and I think has a higher ceiling than Belmonte. Chicco's a better shooter and shot creator, and is no slouch on D either. I do think Belmonte has a higher defensive upside due to his length, though. Basta, I hope to see both in the first window after the WC.

As for mixing it up, Exhibit A: that incident with John Amores in preseason last year. HAHAHAHAHAHA.

                        • I watched the replay of UP-La Salle championship game, yeah I think Mark Belmonte has good potential if we just based it on his game in this championship game. He is such a good size wingman & seems to have an impressive wingspan as well. And he's athletic. I think Reamily is, Belmonte is some sort of an Allein Maliksi, a taller version of Maliksi.

Impressive yung quickness nya for a 6-5/6-6 Pinoy player. In fact he's quicker than Dwight Ramos. May slashing & may outside shooting which U want your small forward to possess.

Havent seen much of Belmonte but Ryan Alba has been hyping all pre season. And from the few minutes I watched he seems mobile and the nack for scoring the ball.

I first saw him in the 3x3 I think and even then he seemed skilled for his height. Where did this guy come from? I mean to have perimeter skills, mobility, and length at 6’6 is rare for a home grown.

Is he as fast laterally and athletic as Navarro? If he is then he definitely has Gilas potential. A Navarro who can actually score aside from defend will be an asset to Pilipinas.

Well, PBA will not settle for that. Lols
Big reason why the SBP head should not be too PBA-affiliated like Panlilio, Vargas, and Boss Chua. They'll insist on PBA players, despite the lack of quality and/or upside apart from Japeth, Scottie, Newsome, Perez, Malonzo, Oftana, and Marcio, many of whom are old. Maybe Mamuyac and Ambohot for "upside" (but Ambohot is already 27, in his prime).
