I’m not surprised really. Panlilio and Chot Reyes? Ateneo connection.

they are true "magkabarkada" since HS if Im not mistaken. so they most likely treat each other as brothers already. or close to it.

      • How about SBP making an effort to file Ron Harper Jr.’s papers for naturalisation. If we get him even as an NP, bigger chance we may able to obtain commitment from his younger brother class 2024 top prospect Dylan Harper.

        • JC at 35 y.o. in 2027 World Cup may no longer serviceable for Gilas by then. So courting Dylan Harper should start soonest the better.

And yet the great Ricky Vargas is pushing for the exemption of a 35-year old Justin Brownlee as if Brownlee would be serviceable for Gilas in the next 10 years. We can see right there how flawed & idiotic Vargas' way of thinking is.

But I think baring any serious injury, a 35-year old Jordan Clarkson would still be very useful to Gilas. And at that age, most likely he won't be in the NBA by that time which would make it significantly cheaper for the SBP to have him play for Gilas.

Remember that howsoever you are played or by whom, your soul is in your keeping alone, even though those who presume to play you be kings or men of power, when you stand before God, you cannot say, 'But I was told by others to do thus,' or that virtue was not convenient at the time. This will not suffice." - King Baldwin IV

If only Mr. Wilfred Steven Uytengsu still had the enthusiasm in Philippine basketball he is certainly on top of my fantasy line-up for that new SBP management alongside Gov. Delta being a hardcore basketball fan, had a deeper pocket, street smart and wider clout of influence and other resources, Mr. Rico Mascarinas another hardcore basketball fan and also had a deeper resources, those 3 will certainly be the game changer in Philippine basketball moving forward.

But in reality Bicolanong Chualay and his banana boat friends will be the one who will handle the NSA that’s an open book already.

Now, If ever they will handle the new management and be aggressive on lobbying some exception, I hope they could somehow sponsor those young FSA’s that I’ve mentioned before instead of JB which is really a comedy move on the part of Panlilio and Vargas.

Uytengsu has been based in the states for a while now. This is partly why he sold Alaska.

Yes Sir, I hope somewhere along the way he may be able to contribute again in Philippine Sports as a whole, being a former national athlete himself he knows all the nitty gritty things of the landscape.

Yes they already sold controlling rights of Alaska right? That was the reason they could only follow when the mother company told them they couldn't sustain the basketball team.

JC still serviceable in 2027, He can still getting buckets and for sure less cheaper cost since he may no longer as great as he is now... Those names you mentioned are not having interest to be part of PHL team even in the future... Even they might don't know where Philippines in the map... Jalen Green is better suit since he knows the Filipino culture (he played some pickup games in the PHL), But he already played in the USA youth team before... So i don't know if he still can switch federations even he already played for other countries in his youth days in the past....

                      • Nice to have a Rhenz Abando in the Gilas 21-man pool. Its always a nice feeling having some 25 years old & below players in your national pool even if most of these players won't make it to the final 12-man roster for the World Cup. By just being part of the pool, these younger players will get the experience playing in the pre-tournament games & tune-ups that Gilas will play as part of its preparation for the World Cup.

I would love to see more young & developing players in the pool like a Justin Baltazar, Kevin Quiambao or a Mike Philipps (though he's not yet considered as a local) or a Mason Amos. For me it makes more sense having those players in the pool than having aging (and frequently injured) players like a Junmar Fajardo, Poy Erram & Japeth Aguilar. But what can we do? Junmar is the PBA's poster boy being a 6-time PBA MVP, while Erram has the familiarity of coach Chot's system being a Talk n Text player. Japeth on the other hand is still serviceable at this point despite his age.

Having some younger & developing players in the pool is some sort of a long-term investment as the experience that these younger players will gain being in the Gilas pool will be valuable in their future national team stint. And I'm talking here of a post-2023 World Cup national team which means its just a year or 2 years away from now.

                        • kinda weird that we’re calling 20-25 yr old players as young while Serbs and other euro programs have 16-18 yrs olds in their main NT program.(RE: Nikola Jovic)

Hays! That's how it is in Philippine basketball. Let's just accept it nalang maski papano.

Well, its still significantly better to have a few 25-year old & below players in the Gilas pool than having a pool composed of all 30-year old & above players. Pasalamat nalang tayo na may mga 25 yrs old & below players ang Gilas pool kahit kunti.

i hope that the next benefactor of Gilas will focus on youth development. If Longhair is indeed the next SBP chief, my God Junmar would probably still part of the 2027 team
