As long as the overseas leagues are better in both competition and NT availability, the PBA should just be a retirement league for our best Gilas players.

Overseas should be the first option for our best eligibles.

Now the preparation that teams undergo are world-class.

This illustrates how important competition level is, and how doubly important it is for young prospects (under 22) to get exposed to a level as high as possible. The quality of the players rises.

With the emergence of the quality of the UAAP, now it really looks like the best way forward for the very best in that league is to go overseas in their early 20s. That is a viable path for having a steady stream of international-level prospects.
And Pido wants to put a cap on the number of Fil-Fors that will play in the UAAP. I will not be surprised if they also proposed to ban FSAs from competing, just to weaken the competition in favor UST the same way they weakened the competition in NCAA in favor of Letran.

I hope that UAAP member-schools are not as backwards as those in the NCAA.

he said that so players don't switch school because of better offer.

so, saying he is against filfor with no context is wrong.

“Maraming schools ‘di kayang makipagsabayan sa recruitment ng big schools like Ateneo, UP, NU at La Salle,” said Jarencio. “Sa PBA, may limit ng limang Fil-foreigners bawa’t team. May dahilan kung bakit may limit. Ganoon din sana sa UAAP.”

So what do you want me to think about this?

Why put a cap on Fil-Fors? Why they don't want to make it open instead, like what it is right now?

We require college players to have phil passport so it almost 90 percent taht they go fiba eligible by the time they become senior ready..the one and dones can play pba ball 3 years to get residency to be in b leagues and get rich while college filams will get the higherst bidder hopefully easl prosper so that this elite players get to play in elite teams BUT play on teams that who drafted them in the pba..
To becomes Asia's Best, we need to compete against the World's Best..
              1 Big 4 small > 5 out offense.

well, if you will just read sentence as is, then you are correct.

im trying to look for the interview to verify if i understood Quinito's question correctly. as I remember, he was asking how the locals are doing with all the filams coming in. and thats what Coach Pido said. i can be wrong, depending on how Quinito asked the question.
but then, at time of interview, Coach Pido already had 2 fil-for recruits, Lane and Obusan, and is reportedly getting 4 more. 2 of which is Leland Estacio and Gjerard Wilson. so clearly, he is recruiting filams by the bulk.
so if indeed coach Pido said what he said, how can local players grow their skills if most of the roster spots are taken by filams, then it lines up. i dont agree, but it does answer the question.

What a dumb statement by a Jurassic coach. Local players grow their skills by competing against the Fil-ams for the same roster spots, dumbass.

That Fil-for limit is one lawsuit away anyway from being stricken down. It's discriminatory and will in no way hold up in court if ever there's a player brave enough to file a case.

                  • A quota restrictions of citizens of a country who lived abroad or carry dual citizenship is indeed legally discriminatory. There is no such thing as holding half a citizen or half the rights of citizenship. You are either a full citizen or not zero citizen.
of course an organization can add residency requirements for eligibility entry that's different..

If that is his real motive then that's a losers' mindset. If roster spots are hard to get, then get better.

This is especially true for our 6'4"-6'6" centers. WIthout filfors, that type of player who is useless internationally will continue. With bigger and better competition, if they want that college spot, then they have to develop their skills and do it early. That will lead to more local players with skill and size. It means more work though, and certain types of people is allergic to that.

How does he think those filfors got good while growing up. Those players grew up competing in a country where it's all imports. No excuses, get better.

KBL uses only 1 import on the floor. It's not alternating.. they can use a import for 30 minutes and the other 10 minutes..

Koreans are also complaining how things run. Semblance with how PBA runs

a lot of people said that about the PBA rule. i have not heard of anyone suing them yet. again, context, the interview was done by Quinito, a die hard PBA supporter and Coach Pido who was the coach of a "farm" team. are we expecting them to say anything against the PBA?
