I watched his game against UP, there were some interesting things he can do for his size but his shooting needs work other teams leave him open because he’s such a black hole in that area

Just some Trivia , James Spencer got his passport at 18 years old : "After all, he would've been a part of the 2018 Fiba Under-18 Asian Championship in Thailand had he gotten his Philippine passport on time last year" , James was born in 2000. so essentially if Spencer moved to UP as an 17/18 year old , got his passport at 18 , then as a 19 year old ( 1 or 2 years residency) he was exempted .

Now what's the difference with Philipps ? main difference is Spencer's name was submitted as part of the roster for FIBA clearance for the U19 Worlds, so essentially I tell you now if Mike's name is included in the roster for the World cup , to be requested for FIBA clearance , he will get approved ( very very confident) , the only question is will the SBP put his name in for FIBA clearance approval and essentially exemption?
If SBP is brave and clever enough, they should put the names of JC, Kouame and Philips on the roster of Gilas this World Cup.

In practical terms you don't actually have to put all 3 in the final 12 roster , you can submit a pool of 18 players for FIBA clearance ( include all the supporting documents (residency etc) for Koaame and Philipps) , if they say yes , then at last you have the option to select them in final 12. ( and they're cleared forever for future tournaments ) , quite a no brainer right ? but will the SBP do this ? I'm not sure and don't think so.. They rather put Junmar in the pool LOL

in 2019 WC Gilas has a 19 man pool published here in FIBA's website ( submitted) https://www.fiba.basketball/basketba...world-cup-pool

The better. However, knowing how short-sighted, uncreative and unimaginative SBP is, I will not expect them to do this. They would rather have the fan favorites (Brownlee, Japeth and Junemar) over those that the team can be used for long term (Philips, Kouame).

          • Literally submit both Kouame and Phiipps in the pool for WC , and make MVP do what he did in 2011 FIBA Asia and beg the SEC general to allow for Lutz and Lassiter to play , (but in Manila ) let's see if the FIBA sec general has the guts to say NO to both request . LOL ... sounds drastic but why not?

            • Are we sure we dont want Ange to finally fix his ACL? Instead of him being less than 100% forever?

the idea isn't to necessarily play him but to submit his name in the18 man pool roster for FIBA clearance and exception

How I hate to agree with U bro, but sadly, you're absolutely right. SBP should preserve 2 slots for FIBA exemption hopefuls (I would like use this term) Mike Philipps & Ange Kouame for future purposes. But as you have pointed out, SBP being so short-sighted & trying please the PBA would rather give those spots to players like Junmar, Japeth or Pogoy who won't be of any value in the national team 2 or 3 years from now.

Yeah, I know where you're coming from bro.

We are 1 of the hosts of the 2023 FIBA World Cup so that's a good leverage right there. I just hope bro that our good people from SBP realizes this idea of yours.

Oh! Am I too optimistic about SBP?

                        • With the future of Philippine basketball as a heavy priority, here's my 18-man pool for the 2023 World Cup?

                          1. Iskati Thompson
                          2. Kiefer Ravena (I would prefer Robert Bolick in this spot but Bolick seems not that committed to Gilas recently)
                          3. CJ Perez
                          4. Thirdy Ravena (I would choose Thirdy over Chris Newsome becoz of age factor)
                          5. Jordan Heading
                          6. Rayray Parks
                          7. Jordan Clarkson (NP)
                          8. Dwight Ramos
                          9. Jamie Malonzo
                          10. Calvin Oftana (if only Navarro isn't injured, I'll choose him over Oftana)
                          11. Carl Tamayo
                          12. Mason Amos
                          13. Mike Philipps
                          14. Japeth Aguilar
                          15. Ange Kouame
                          16. Kai Sotto
                          17. AJ Edu
                          18. Poy Erram (its actually a toss-up between him & Junmar but I feel Erram is more useful)

I put Philipps & Kouame in there mainly for exemption purposes. I would love a Justin Baltazar in there but for reason I don't know, it seems SBP doesn't like Baltazar in the Gilas pool.

                          • 2nd follow up question, if Koaume and Philipps get approved exempted, who's your final 12 ?

Philips for me, simply because Chot is the coach, and we'll probably have Kai and either any of JMF or Japeth. Now this is not a knock on Ange but it's just better to use Mike at this point as he's going to be more useful in Chot's system. Pag hindi na lang siguro si Chot ang coach (maybe after the Asian Games?), only then that Ange will be regularly penciled in to final 12-man line-ups whether it be for FIBA qualifying games or tournament proper itself.

As a direct answer to your question:

                              Scottie
                              CJ
                              Clarkson
                              Rhenz/Thirdy
                              Dwight
                              Parks
                              Malonzo
                              CT
                              Motor Mike
                              Kai
                              AJ
                              Japhet/JMF
