Caidic and Ritualo will have a difficult time being a sharp-shooter they once were in today's game. Interesting how they will shoot over Malonzo, or Converge's tall and athletic guards.

Key for Mason is to lose weight, learn how to move without the ball, develop decent ballhandling skills and most importantly, unlearn his bigman tendencies. Tab will turn him into a taller Dave Ildefonso with better touch.

Well, Mason Amos' athleticism isn't in the same level as the athleticism of Danny Seigle & Kelly Wiiliams, but I think Mason is more athletic than Carl Tamayo.

And I feel Mason's athleticism will improve as he is only 18 years old. I think Kai Sotto is more athletic now than what he was when he was 18 yrs old. As a player matures, lalakas ang mga bones & muscles nya.

Losing weight will definitely help. I like the fact that he doesn't rely purely on athleticism. Is he really that good of a shooter though?

According to the Fiba website Amos averaged 21.2pts with an efficient 68.1% FG shooting (45% 3pt) on 14 shot attempts. His 3 point shooting goes up to 52% in corner threes which shows he is a very capable shooter.

I never bothered to check the stats but holy moly somebody get this kid in the lineup now. When was the last we had somebody shooting in the 40s against international teams?

BTW, Mason Amos' 21 ppg & 5.8 rebs./game stats in last year's FIBA Asia U-18 Championship was registered while playing only 26 mins/game:https://www.fiba.basketball/asia/u18...am/Philippines

Its not like he put those Nos. while playing 35 mins./game. I say Mason is a natural scorer.

That Batang Gilas U-18 by Mason Amos just wasn't coached up to par by Joke Reyes.

No matter how good a player is, if he lacks ample support from other teammates & if the team has an incompetent coach, that player can only do so much.

                          • I don't know if people follow the Amos's , but youngee CJ in last state championship was a remarkable shooter . Both Mason and CJ were on my NBTC team in 2020, before Covid canceled tournament.
If people are wondering where does the shooting come from, we'll dad was a good shooter in the NZ NBL.. I've had discussions with dad on his shooting principles, and it's solid , he knows his stuff. From , step vs Hopz , to twist, to one motion vs two, to trajectory (arch must reach top of backboard on 3s).
Of course it comes with repetition. I feel shooting is the one skill thst can' be taught (generally)

we'll see in UAAP 86. Not all Batang Gilas players are stellar players once they step foot in the collegiate ranks. UAAP is a different animal. But Amos by the looks of it, is a low-maintenance type player who can give you buckets. Imagine Ryan Buenafe but better, taller, more fundamentally skilled.

                              • Here's an assessment by a Korean blogger, baekpd: https://twitter.com/baekpd1983/statu...2cuAy5-oA&s=19

"Characteristics of basketball players in East Asian countries.

                                1. Height - China
                                2. Basketball Basic Skills - Japan
                                3. 3-point shot - South Korea
                                4. Import Players - China
                                5. Defense Skills - South Korea
                                6. Attack Capability - Philippines
                                7. Possibility of Development - Japan"

He's echoing what many people think of Japan's possibility of development, and rightly considers his guys the better shooters. Otherwise, this is just his take.
