  • I'm intrigued if Philipps has a chance , if SBP pursued it like they did Greg and Clarkson, I think he has a reasonable shot of getting exempted, do not forget we are the host and granting a exception of Philiips heritage and residency background at the veryleast is a reasonable request to be granted. (NOW that's of course if SBP is at all interested or is dead set with the PBA players)

Other nation will send NBA players, players used as import for some other countries league, or just having significant FIBA experience. and you technically want us to send Kai with Seven and Gab? Kai is still young enough to need the experience. i wouldnt even call him a veteran of FIBA tournaments let alone Seven and Gab. and dont get me wrong, its not like I dont want them to play for flag, my position is use them in other tournaments, maybe the qualifications, but use the best we can for the 2023 world cup.

but looking at it differently, if you thinkg these 2 kids are better than the current PBA players. then our basketball in general is rubbish. imagine, 2 HS kids are better, because they will represnt the nation in a world cup, then seasoned veteran of the countries main basketball league.
I get that we should put the best in. In the 4/5 list, I have Japeth, June Mar, Carl, Balti, and maybe AJ (just having injury concerns with him) and Mason high up first, then we consider the other younger players like Seven and Gab.

At worst, the younger players will be only slightly worse than the other veteran bigs that we have. Even if that's the case, they can still improve from it due to their youth. At least nga, it's almost a lateral move from the PBA bigs, so might as well. Besides, they could use the exposure to hone their game further.

      • ^^We gotta take into account we’re actually talking about insurance as far as ”the other big” is concerned. Might ride the pine until the situation asks them to be in there. With Kai, Aj, Junmar/Japeth and Tamayo, the 4/5 minutes are all but allotted. Having someone like Erram, Almazan or Belga serves no beneficial purpose, esp long term. Balti and Tamayo offers upside, at the very least. I rather have them out there for the spot minutes than the vets.
Never look too far ahead. You might stumble on a block right in front of you.

IMHO, I would rather put on the 6’8 kid Michael Philips to our(non-FIBA) SEA Games, Jones Cup, Asian Games and FIBA 3x3 line-up, I agree 2027 is the exciting part on Philippine basketball and the perfect opportunity to present his case to the Sec Gen. because of the ff: 1. I think at that time he already finish his schooling at DLSU and 2. Already(hopefully) playing in the PBA same with his 6’6 Kuya Ben. But if we submit his papers now, well it’s still risky and the chances are very slim. I think at that time his basketball immersion to the country had already been well establish.

          • Jeremiah Grey might be the next player to obtain an exception from FIBA, I think he has played in the PH since 2019. All he needs is 2 more years playing in the PBA and he could be given an exception.

Im being honest Demisana, doesn't seem like a future Gilas prospect to me.

Hope he develop his body, like how thin DI was in his age.

                      • Right now, Demisana is a tweener (the less desirable type of tweener). Doesn't yet have the strength to be a big, and raw skills to play smaller. He's already 18 so skills like ball-handling, offhand finishing, etc will be harder to improve. Those skills should have been developed waaay earlier. Getting stronger and more muscular is more feasible though. He can be a 6'8" big that is a bit quicker than our typical bigs. Him being a unicorn wing-type at this point is a very tall task. Sucks though, because it seems like he could have been one with adequate early training. Would be glad to be proven wrong though.

i will answer you this way po Sir. Just like the role of Heading, for me he is "have gun will travel/designated gunner" guy. starters/28- 30 plus minutes guys; Kai JC Dwight AJ, Iskati, off the bench/18-22 min; Carl Perez BRP Jap and DNP-8 mins; JMF for instant offense/low post play, Malonzo def for big opponent SF, Amos/Heading for at least 2-3 3pts attempt/game, i prefer Mason since guard/JC is the NP. if i put Seven or Demi for 12th spot, i'll rather have AJ/Jap/JMF/Carl/(Philips) for this year.

we form pools, and pick from there when there are games. Belga was always part of the pool before, even if he barely played for Gilas. in that light, why shouldnt Mason be part of the pool? if we have a 20+ player pool, its hard to imagine not having Mason there.

With the amount of bigs coming up and what he brings to the table. People were hyping him up as a big that can move laterally or play defense or something so I tried watching him. I mean he has has active hands and can be disruptive, he’s also quite long and seems to understand how to use his length but his mobility defensively seems overrated to me, hes like the other bigs, just because he’s thinner doesn’t necessarily mean he automatically moves better, he’s a mobile big but he’s not necessarily fast or anything. Also he seems like a naturally skinnier guy.

We don't have many bigs with his size and length who have active hands, knows positioning, and disruptive on defense, though. Mason and Seven are not those types of bigs, unless they develop eventually into competent defensive fours. Rim protection and defensive awareness are important skills in a big.

He'd been working on his perimeter skills (passing, handles, shooting) since 15. Maybe it's not enough?
