Si Marcial ba mismo nagsulat ng headline?

I also hope we emphasize defensive rotations in the process. We wouldn't have beaten SoKor without sound defensive rotations. Hopefully, our young guys learn team defense early, using this Gilas as a base.

Good Lord. I hope at least the PBA gives enough time for training for main tournaments (however unlikely). I don't want another 2019 WC experience and another drubbing at the hands of SoKor thanks to crappy defensive rotations and transition defense.

      • Yeng was talking about how Calvin would have probably been part of the ACQ and QT. I would agree too based on his ACQ performance. He is just saying the Calvin is a talented guy. Of course it doesn't mean he won't be part of future Gilas teams.

i do think mascarinas of CTG is more than capable and is nationalistic to continue the program. hope he does and i hope he does not join the PBA.

against thailand? that was not a good performance by oftana tbh. he was slow on defense. he did hit a couple of shots which is not surprising he has the talent.

“Not a good performance” is just a personal perspective. I don’t think that’s something shared by a lot of people. I for one thinks he made a good account of himself given that he was a first timer internationally and he is also new to Tab’s system.
Never look too far ahead. You might stumble on a block right in front of you.

Agree. It was his first international game and probably as an SF too. He showed good range. Those 3s were far from the 3 point line. He showed good defense. He challenged a charging Thai guard while avoiding contact that could have been a foul. He showed good agility and mobility. The 3 pt shooting and that agility alone showed his potential as an SF. He looked more athletic than Navarro. His handles were not that bad. It's not hard to see him doing well in the final ACQ if he were still part of the pool. If he did well he would have probably been part of the OQT team.

The arrogance of the PBA. If not for the pandemic, Oftana would be playing in Japan

                    UP Fight. Hahahahahahaha.

UP bias aside, I think he's perfect for the job. What's more, he's neutral. No favors for either evil empire (and I hope his Chooks never becomes an evil empire). I do hope he asserts his authority if he becomes SBP head.

Unlikely that he'll join the PBA, seeing as he's sponsoring the MPBL, NBL, WNBL, and the VisMin Cup, as well as his 3x3 league.

well SMC blocked his entry and it left a bad taste. which is understandable from SMC side as they had planned to compete with their Magnolia poultry business.

                        • It's really stupid to block a company from joining a sports league just because it's a business rivals

Should MVP retire from sponsoring the NT, I can see Chooks and Mighty Sports to be the companies that will sponsor the NT with a passion

Being a go-to-guy doesn't really translate to being a "ball heavy" player (something coach Tab dislikes). Take the case of Matthew Wright at Phoenix. Wright is Phoenix' go-to-guy player but he isn't a "ball heavy" player. In fact Wright facilitates well for Phoenix & doesn't always look to score. I think Wright isn't in the same mold as a Mark Caguioa or Garry David or a James Yap.

If only we can find a go-to-guy with the same mentality as a Matt Wright then that would be good to the team.
That's the PBA Weight but FIBA Wright is too indecisive and gunshy...

The NT needs two way players with length. This is why I like Tuffin to become part of the pool in the near future. He’d be able to keep in step with the likes of Liz, Solano and Torres while being a designated shooter on the other end. 3nD role players natin Big Mike and Navarro, albeit decent, could use some upgrade. Nieto can’t cover speedy wings, Navarro doesn’t have a reliable 3. I think wing combo of Tuffin and Oftana are significant upgrade. No offense to Navarro fans, dude was decent in the OQT.

too many TOs also for navarro. but yes, d lack of outside shot is alarming. hope he can fix it this august.

as of now, i will take a paras (with d right mindset), a lopez (with more experience and maturity), and tuffin (if his progress continues) over him in 2023 if he does not rediscover his range.
