His 3-pt shooting was suspect although in international competitions he didn't shoot badly from that distance. One thing is for certain, Johnny A's mid-range pull up jumper is money.

Remember that howsoever you are played or by whom, your soul is in your keeping alone, even though those who presume to play you be kings or men of power, when you stand before God, you cannot say, 'But I was told by others to do thus,' or that virtue was not convenient at the time. Now how do we replace him?
Yeah, tough luck for WillNav. Just when his offense is improving then this injury happened.

Yeah, Johnny A was a scoring PG, but his passing & court savvy were that of a pass-first type of a PG.
Another underrated aspect of his game was his defense. He had quick hands & reflexes which enabled him to come up with a lot of steals. I remember those instances that opponents would get the rebounds & thought everything was safe until Johnny A coming from nowhere would steal the ball like a candy.

          • Abarrientos is also deceptively strong which enables him to finish against
            bigger players.

Here's Johnny A. freezing 6'3 guard Masaki Goto with a shake-n'-bake and finished it in countact against 7'1 Akifumi Yamasaki, Johnny later did that same shot against Marlou Aquino in the PBA

            • Kang Dong Hee will always be the pain in the ass for the Flying A and Rara Racela hence that so-called Korean Curse is not really a curse after all but an expose that was fully exploit to the hilt by one of the most disciplined basketball program of Asia. As per Sir Dotch, that fat PG Kang of AG98 and Lee Sang Min of AG2002 will always be in the subconscious of coach Johnny and coach Olsen until kingdom come.

In the days leading up to the then upcoming 2000 ABC-PBA All Star games, in an interview with Tim Cone who will be coaching the PBA All-Star that time,he said that Johnny was looking forward in facing Kang anew and had his little revenge, sadly, Kang and bigman Seo were pulled out by their respective KBL teams, then reigning Japanese League MVP Makoto Hasegawa and Chinese bigman Zhu Dong take their spots

                • i think SBP should be working on Cstan's exemption as he is more suited with the international game than Junemar, BAD targeted Junemar several times in game 1 trying to expose his lateral defense, though Junemar has a better post and mid range game than Cstan

I remember that chubby Korean PG Kang Dong Hee outplaying Johnny A as the former led his team to a rout win over our Centennial team in the 1998 Asian Games. Kinda buffles me how come Kang Dong Hee who wasn't that quick & athletic would outplay a Johnny Abarrientos.

The thing about Johnny A is that he was more impressive in the 1994 Asian Games than during the 1998 Asian Games. Johnny A was said to be the crowd darling in the basketball competition in the 1994 Asiad.

Of course who can forget Lee Sang Min who was our biggest in the 2002 Asian Games? That Korea-Phi game which we lost via that dagger of a 3-pt shot by Lee Sang Min gave me a bit of a depression for a few days

Kang has deceptive quickness and was 2-3 inches taller than Johnny A and Olsen. he is a natural heavy weight and he has no problem holding his playing weight of maybe 195 to 210 lbs.

Kang took advantage of Tim Cone's lack of scouting and did what he does best, thread the inside and dish off to his wing players or to big man Seo. He kept it simple. He just frustrated both Johnny A and Olsen as they cant stop his seemingly easy drives

SBP and Apa is punisihing him for not making free throws.. but nevertheless..they see cstan in fiba as a 30-10 guy in fiba.. he is low key better than some of pba imports (cough devin scott)...

Cstan will be handy if we still vying for an asian championship..kaso sa asain games na lang yata may ganun and we might send a different team since we have pba bleague and kbl boys slugging it out for Gilas..
To becomes Asia's Best, we need to compete against the World's Best..
                        1 Big 4 small > 5 out offense.

That's because we were the Champions in the Jones Cup, we showed our aces in Taiwan that's why we were well scouted by the Koreans

According to some unverified sources during those time that one of the many reasons why those two players decided not to be involved in that event(on a last minute notice?) and eventually their respective KBL team turn down the invitation are the narratives about that revenge thing and RP-Sokor bitter rivalry as part of the hype and it was misinterpreted(?) on those people close to Kang and Seo that going to Manila during that time is not(yet) ideal(?) because those PBA players involved in that ill-fated Centennial team and the fans during that time hasn?t forget nor move on yet with that very painful defeat. Can?t blame those Sokors, Besides, it?s just an exhibition thing and they will not gain anything significant on it aside from the usual appearance fee baka ma injured pa wag na lang.

I had no objection lobbying for CStans local exemption assuming Boss Chualay and his minions may somehow takeover the SBP leadership after WC2023 but the big questions or challenges are, first, he already played in an official FIBA(?) tourney during his youth years, donning the U18 team Germany, second, he already played his very first domestic league at Germany starting from 2006 ? 2015(that?s already 9 yrs.) and only suited his Gilas jersey starting from 2017 Jones Cup, 2017 FIBA Asia Cup, 2017 SEA Games until now and that?s only 5 yrs. Since shifting his alliance to the Philiipines. Now the follow-up question is, are FIBA will consider this as a basis if the SBP will lobby for his basketball heritage or immersion? Indeed his case is very tricky and his already 33 yrs. Old.
