also regarding bolick as a willing passer/playmaker, maybe we can look at these games where william navarro is dominating. bolick made a lot of assists to him
Yeah, but I think Bolick was still looking for his shots. Like that win over Converge last Sunday, Bolick took 17 shots & made 9 of them. But he had 10 assists (a downside was his 6 turnovers). In the win over Terrafirma, Bolick took 21 shots & made just 4, but he had 10 assists & zero turnovers.

Maybe Bolick has to take that many shots becoz Northport doesn't have enough scorers. Their import isn't a scoring import. Prince Ibeh is no Cam Oliver, Justin Brownlee or Quincy Miller. My concern is that its hard to get rid of old habits. I mean pag nasanay ka na to take that many shots (which is a privilege ) playing for a team without enough good scorers, when you play for a team with lots of potent scorers like that of Gilas, its hard to limit your shots & just take a backseat in scoring. Especially since Bolick has been a scoring point guard from his college stint in San Beda to playing for Northport in the PBA.

    • Another impressive game from Rhenz Abando: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2YFg5CBSMPU

I notice though that Abando usually explodes in the 1st half but would become silent in the 2nd half.

Defense, well, I can't say much for Benilde since I haven't observed them on that end, although Hoops Highlights (a San Beda graduate) clipped a video of them doing almost perfect rotations (https://twitter.com/izeizeflo/status...gCZg-pHbj4kjiQ). La Salle's too press reliant, and as cha34 says, they give up too many offensive rebounds.

As for Charles, I'd like to see him on the Gilas men's staff one day as an offensive coordinator. Or maybe help in the youth program.

Charles was one of Rajko's assistants, yes. And he's shown some chops as a coach in the NCAA and with Mighty Sports. Hope he returns to the staff and adds variety to the Gilas offense.

        • That Dwight Ramos injury looks bad (probably as a result of lack of rest). Anyways who do you think should replace him in the next window if he is out? Thirdy or Abando? If it is 3rdy, he better perfome like crazy since the socmed backlash is already bad enough for him and his bro. especially if it over someone like Abando since the latter has got a great socmed following.

From Dwight himself, he said he will be out by around 2 months. Which means that by around the last week of January, he will probably back in action. Of course he might not be at a 100% playing form by the 6th window but I think he will be good enough by the 6th window.

If Justin Brownlee would be our NP by the 6th window, then we won't be feeling Dwight's absence (in case he won't be available) since both Brownlee & Dwight plays at the 3 spot.

why not let Dwight rest regardless of his injury for that window? he is more needed in WC. plus, it'll open playing time (for window 6 only) for other players for CCR to assess.

too many cooks spoil the broth.

let him coach one of the youth team. and maybe coach jeff another and let Coach Gold be the asst coach of the main men's team. I would actually want a new coach for the women's and let Coach Pat handle the team formation and building relations with the families of potential recruits. to be honest, what he contributed to Womens NT is great. but in pure X and O, i think we can upgrade. i still want him there as he is solid in terms of growing the whole program.

                • Another 6'5ish 3 and D player we can try this February

                  https://www.spin.ph/basketball/pba/a...221125-fbfirst

"I intend to return to the Philippines and put my name in the PBA Draft,"
                  he told Spin.ph.

Tuffin, 25, is an athletic 6-foot-5 forward who played for Far Eastern University in the UAAP, can be a 3-and-D option for teams.

Since the pandemic hit, he returned to New Zealand and initially played with the Taranaki Mountainairs before moving to the Wellington Saints and helping the team claim the 2021 NZ NBL championship.

He continued to be a valuable piece of the Saints this 2022 season, averaging 8.2 points on 37-percent shooting from deep, 2.7 rebounds and 1.0 assist in 22.9 minutes of action as the team reached the playoffs as the fourth-seed before being eliminated by eventual runner-up Auckland Tuatara in the play-in phase.

Tuffin was previously included in coach Chot Reyes' "23-for-2023" Gilas Pilipinas pool and was also shortlisted in the Tall Blacks' pool.

Our pool is the DEEPEST and the most talented in Asia if you'd look deeper. We can beat Australia on a good day. But if we don't get our sh*t together, Japan will kick our a** every single time as this is their golden age (Yudai Baba, Rui Hachimura, Yuta Watanabe --- they defeated France & Belgium in friendlies remember?). Our coaches just need to work harder to identify and classify these players according to their limitations. There are players na "pang PBA lang" and there are players who could get paid in higher leagues and can play with our NT to BEAT (not just compete) top teams in the world. We have a lot of excellent players but we have to take note that THERE ARE LEVELS to this. FIBA WC 2019 for example, showed that our coaches overestimated some of PBA superstars' capabilities, hence the humiliation (ex. Kiefer cannot perform well vs Euros and Americans, Almazan is not a World Cup-level bigman we thought he was). For now, we just have to accept that Chot is the main man for this program hopefully his lapses will be offset by Tim Cone in future competitions.

If he proves his worth in the PBA, like Will Navarro did, he'll be high on Gilas coaches' list, but imho there are players who are still ahead of him. NZ NBL level of competition isn't as high as AUS NBL, and just because you're good in NBL (either NZ or Aus) doesn't mean that will translate to the PBA. Players in Converge for example (Arana, Tratter, Stockton, Tyrus Hill) has more upside than Tuffin.

                            Agree with U bro.
What I like about this current era in Philippine basketball is that never was a time that we have this abundance of good size/length small forwards or combo forwards.

Imagine having guys like Dwight Ramos, Oftana, Malonzo, WillNav, Arvin Tolentino, Roosevelt Adams, Kobe Paras, Ken Tuffin, Javi GDL. Anyone of these guys can suit up for Gilas as local players.

Tuffin is described as a 3 & D player. But as far as getting a call up for Gilas anytime soon, I think guys like Dwight Ramos, Rayray Parks, Oftana, Malonzo are ahead of him.

We can test Tuffin with Gilas post 2023 World Cup.

                            • Another solid game from Rhenz Abando finishing with 21 pts. This kid is for real. He is improving very very well. I'm impressed with his degree of improvement since playing in Korea. I know magaling talaga sya sa NCAA playing for Letran, but playing in Korea's KBL pro league is a different level eh.

I think Abando deserves a Gilas call up. I see this kid as someone better than fellow shooter Jordan Heading. Abando's edge over Heading is the former's unbelievable athleticism.

I think Abando is doing well in KBL because its not an overly physical league but in FIBA this would be exposed (like games against DR and NZ) kaya Heading would thrive better i think for Gilas. If Asian level no prob for Abando
