"I once asked a Korean coach, 'How come your players have very consistent shooting?'" Caidic shared. "His answer was very simple. He said Filipinos start learning to dribble and pass first. Koreans learn to shoot first."
This is evident during the pre-game warm-ups of Gilas, both in youth and in seniors - instead of practicing their shooting, our players are doing layups and dunks.

OT: Alex Eala wins the Junior US Open. As long as there is no Choke Reyes-like personality in other sports, I think we can excel.
Next is the Softball World Cup. I just recently found out that we are actually ranked #21 in the world. Better than basketball, but where is the support?
I think we really have a good chance in softball and baseball if they are given better support.

The question in Asia is why Filipinos not excelling in baseball, back in the day that was the sport of Filipinos, even good enough to strike out the great Babe Ruth and the Yankees in RMS.I mean SK and Japan constantly putting up players in MLB,equal to Americans and Latinos.

Isa sa mga breakout players ngayong conference sa PBA ay si Aaron Black. Isa siyang 6 foot 1 guard from Meralco. Nung nagsisimula palang siyang mag blossom, ...
Nice analysis on Aaron Black. I think Black deserves to be in the Gilas pool with the way he played in the recent Phi Cup. He has really made remarkable improvement & his Nos. speak for himself. For me, it would make more sense that Aaron Black is named to the Gilas pool more than his fellow Meralco teammates Maliksi & Almazan were named to the Gilas pool in the 4th window.
One upside I see in Black as compared to other Gilas pool members is his age, at 25 he is expected to improve further. Also, at 6-foot-1, he is a good size point guard."A king may move a man, a father may claim a son, but that man can also move himself, and only then does that man truly begin his own game. Remember that howsoever you are played or by whom, your soul is in your keeping alone, even though those who presume to play you be kings or men of power, when you stand before God, you cannot say, 'But I was told by others to do thus,' or that virtue was not convenient at the time. This will not suffice." - King Baldwin IV

It stops at a certain age for our players maybe because most of them are advised or they themselves realize at some point to no longer continue playing as they will not have stable baseball pro careers here in the PHL. If only our high school athletes (the 6-footers) would only consider playing baseball, i think they'd be considered great prospects if not for the MiLB, at least for the top Asian pro baseball leagues. One still needs to be good-sized in baseball to have better chances of being scouted.
Speaking of size its not uncommon in MLB to have 6'5 or above pitchers, imagine a 6'10 pitcher on top of the 10 inch mound hurling 100MPH fastballs,it takes alot of cajones to not flinch and actually try to hit that.Baseball and the NFL is the bane of the NBA as far as getting the local American talent, some of the skilled tall players end up in those leagues instead. The Filipino players and fans need to get that one national sport mentality, but with the other sports having a winning seasons and a well marketed superstar might change the sport landscape in the Philippines.

I agree, there needs to be another massive breakthrough in other PHL team sports to kickstart a public (and billionaire sport patrons') interest at least half of basketball's. The closest was the Azkals craze in the early 2010's that should've significantly influenced the football grassroots program for a decade at least. It just so happened that the Gilas program also gained momentum and was winning during those years, that's why the focus of the Filipino sports audiences didn't fully shift to football. That Gilas momentum paired with the Azkals' inability to win a Suzuki Cup or a SEAG medal also didn't help and might have spelled the doom for that short-lived hype for PHL football.
