We're just going to waste Kai, JC, Dwight, etc. prime years aren't we? We don't have any legit bigman prospect of Kai's caliber nor NBA prospect aside from maybe Harris who underwhelmed IMO either. This core is probably the strongest we will have for while so we need to go all in next year..

Gilas Pilipinas is really a special different team among asian (and probably world) teams.. why am I saying this? because a LONGER PREPARATION is almost a must for Gilas compared to other asian teams or euro teams... why am I saying this? because of our style of play.. to say the least, we are really almost the NBA in terms of individual play.. talagang we are talented and one on one talaga.. with this, we really need longer preparation time to gel and create a bond or chemistry on court.. greatest example is really the 2013 and 2014 Gilas team.. that teams is really special not only because of Blatche (prime) but how Blatche was utilized to the most in relation to our team chemistry.. that team really new their roles.. and it helps that vetetans like Ranidel, Alapag, Pingris were there.. that time had probably the longest preparation time among all world cup teams and it worked.. that team was one cohesive team..

Japan and Korea, almost all their players and teams play the same style.. so when they convene as a national team, it would be easier to create chemistry since as I have said, they have a culture of basketball unmatched by any nation so meron na talaga silang same style and system, thus no need for long preparation time.. baka maburn out pa sila..

so the 3 month preparation next year for the FIBA World Cup plus 6 weeks with Clarkson (given most of the tune up games will be scheduled during this time) will really work wonders for Gilas.. BUT and this is a big BUT.. if they will stick with Chot, Time Cone, etc.. they would need a consultant very familiar with the World FIBA atmosphere (Tab BAldwin's role during 2014 World Cup) to guide them throughout the preparation.. that 2014 formula really works for Gilas Pilipinas..

and just an opinion.. if we send Tab Baldwin's team (Belangel, Abbarientos, Ramos, Kai, Tamayo, Baltazar, etc..) to the World Cup, I really do think we will be bulldozed.. That close Serbia game in the olympic qualifiers was really a gulpe de gulat.. none of these college players are familiar to them.. what happened in the dominican republic second half????? bulldozed.. wala na.. probably napagod na Gilas natin plus dominican republic flexed their muscles already..

      so there, my humble opinion...
I disagree that Tab's team will be bulldozed. I consider Tab's team to be a non-PBA team but still with the availability of Clarkson. If we do this, Tab's first 5 will be Kai, (could be Edu), Baltazar, Dwight, and Clarkson. You can then compare this with Chot's superb coaching skill but with almost the same 1st 5 albeit the addition of Japeth and Skatti. His 1st five will be Kai, Japeth, Dwight, Clarkson and Skatti. I think Tab's preparation and guidance plus his 1st 5 is better than CHots. We can then look at the bench of Tab. Tab will have Tamayo, Heading, Ildefonso, maybe Michael Philips, Abando, Belangel, Abarientos.......Chot will have Adams, Malonzo, Fajardo, Thirdy Ravena, Kiefer Ravena, Parks, Oftana......I dont think the skills are that far but the difference is the style of play and which coach prepares his team better........Tab rely on system while Chot relies more on the skills of his player and the bahala system

      • At the current state, I consider the Ateneo team or maybe even the UP team better than Gilas 1 with Douthit. I also think that the Gilas 2 with Douthit is at par with the current Ateneo or UP team.

Samboy actually is my idol during my early years of following the PBA, but I think Samboy's glaring weakness was defense. He was a deadweight on defense. But offense wise, I saw Samboy & Vergel Meneses as among the most skilled PBA players of all time. Too bad that injuries had really hampered Samboy's PBA career.

I say a 6-foot-4 Samboy Lim with a better defensive skills would probably have made it to the NBA.

Never saw him play but that's good to know another one added to the list. The younger Ildefonso might also be there in the future. The guy is a complete package minus dunking.

I wish Dave Ildefonso has the athleticism of Dwight Ramos

now that you mentioned that dave is actually like a poor man's dwight ramos. they have similar playstyles except dwight is bigger, stronger, & quicker with higher BBIQ

I believe his defense was good. Thats why he had more playing time with NCC than Allan Caidic. Physical and able to block shots because of his athleticism. He was always guarding top SG of the other team.

Wow, a Chip Engelland sighting! I always wonder why no PBA / SBP officials ask him to come "home" and hold shooting drills or even coach? Even when the time Danding and Ron Jacobs were active back in the late 90s.

Right? He's so much more mature than Dave. Dave could still use some seasoning.

To be fair, Dave is younger(?). Let's see what happens during this upcoming UAAP season

I don't think Dwight Ramos is quicker than Dave Ildefonso. Halos magkapareho lang sila in terms of quickness. Its just that Dwight has better hops & is physically stronger than Dave. What I like about Dave since he transferred at Ateneo is that he has learned to play more as a team player & has departed from the "heavy ball" mentality that he has developed during high school & his collegiate career at NU. Coach Tab has really modified Dave's approach of the game.

                              • According to some of my uncle, they are lucky enough to witnessed on the spot the legendary status of the Skywalker during his Letran days at the old Rizal Coliseum wherein a barely six foot guy literally walking in the air just to get that enough stride to make sure that his patented lay-up will not be “kapos” because the guy takes off early maybe in the free throw line that cause a lot’s of ohh’s and ahh’s reactions in the gallery, that was his heyday, the peak of the player they called The Dragon, thanks to my uncles for that story.
