Gilas Pilipinas is really a special different team among asian (and probably world) teams.. why am I saying this? because a LONGER PREPARATION is almost a must for Gilas compared to other asian teams or euro teams... why am I saying this? because of our style of play.. to say the least, we are really almost the NBA in terms of individual play.. talagang we are talented and one on one talaga.. with this, we really need longer preparation time to gel and create a bond or chemistry on court.. greatest example is really the 2013 and 2014 Gilas team.. that teams is really special not only because of Blatche (prime) but how Blatche was utilized to the most in relation to our team chemistry.. that team really new their roles.. and it helps that vetetans like Ranidel, Alapag, Pingris were there.. that time had probably the longest preparation time among all world cup teams and it worked.. that team was one cohesive team..
Japan and Korea, almost all their players and teams play the same style.. so when they convene as a national team, it would be easier to create chemistry since as I have said, they have a culture of basketball unmatched by any nation so meron na talaga silang same style and system, thus no need for long preparation time.. baka maburn out pa sila..
so the 3 month preparation next year for the FIBA World Cup plus 6 weeks with Clarkson (given most of the tune up games will be scheduled during this time) will really work wonders for Gilas.. BUT and this is a big BUT.. if they will stick with Chot, Time Cone, etc.. they would need a consultant very familiar with the World FIBA atmosphere (Tab BAldwin's role during 2014 World Cup) to guide them throughout the preparation.. that 2014 formula really works for Gilas Pilipinas..
and just an opinion.. if we send Tab Baldwin's team (Belangel, Abbarientos, Ramos, Kai, Tamayo, Baltazar, etc..) to the World Cup, I really do think we will be bulldozed.. That close Serbia game in the olympic qualifiers was really a gulpe de gulat.. none of these college players are familiar to them.. what happened in the dominican republic second half????? bulldozed.. wala na.. probably napagod na Gilas natin plus dominican republic flexed their muscles already..
so there, my humble opinion...

With the exception of players M.Williams, Pringle, Terrence, Caguioa, and Meneses, no pinoy player who's a world class one on one level talent in my opinion.sigpic

I say a 6-foot-4 Samboy Lim with a better defensive skills would probably have made it to the NBA."A king may move a man, a father may claim a son, but that man can also move himself, and only then does that man truly begin his own game. Remember that howsoever you are played or by whom, your soul is in your keeping alone, even though those who presume to play you be kings or men of power, when you stand before God, you cannot say, 'But I was told by others to do thus,' or that virtue was not convenient at the time. This will not suffice." - King Baldwin IV

According to some of my uncle, they are lucky enough to witnessed on the spot the legendary status of the Skywalker during his Letran days at the old Rizal Coliseum wherein a barely six foot guy literally walking in the air just to get that enough stride to make sure that his patented lay-up will not be “kapos” because the guy takes off early maybe in the free throw line that cause a lot’s of ohh’s and ahh’s reactions in the gallery, that was his heyday, the peak of the player they called The Dragon, thanks to my uncles for that story.
