Good takes most to the time, but these guys are reactionaries and really dont offer breaking news.

Noli Eala and Charles Tiu are good follows and very insightful.

Heoball is my go to guy for korea-bound / korea based hoops, not necessarilty Gials news, but good source of info for Pinoy K-Ballers
Add Golden State fan boy Joe Viray to the mix Lol

And if you wanna see some basketball mental gymnastics follow Chris Tan

    • Lol I was just kidding about the big 3. They are more like the IBN fan favorites. But kidding aside, they are also good for some breaking news.
Never look too far ahead. You might stumble on a block right in front of you.

      • I just want to share something as objectively as possible.. without the mention of the wrongdoings of Chot and SBP..

Gilas Pilipinas is really a special different team among asian (and probably world) teams.. why am I saying this? because a LONGER PREPARATION is almost a must for Gilas compared to other asian teams or euro teams... why am I saying this? because of our style of play.. to say the least, we are really almost the NBA in terms of individual play.. talagang we are talented and one on one talaga.. with this, we really need longer preparation time to gel and create a bond or chemistry on court.. greatest example is really the 2013 and 2014 Gilas team.. that teams is really special not only because of Blatche (prime) but how Blatche was utilized to the most in relation to our team chemistry.. that team really new their roles.. and it helps that vetetans like Ranidel, Alapag, Pingris were there.. that time had probably the longest preparation time among all world cup teams and it worked.. that team was one cohesive team..

Japan and Korea, almost all their players and teams play the same style.. so when they convene as a national team, it would be easier to create chemistry since as I have said, they have a culture of basketball unmatched by any nation so meron na talaga silang same style and system, thus no need for long preparation time.. baka maburn out pa sila..

so the 3 month preparation next year for the FIBA World Cup plus 6 weeks with Clarkson (given most of the tune up games will be scheduled during this time) will really work wonders for Gilas.. BUT and this is a big BUT.. if they will stick with Chot, Time Cone, etc.. they would need a consultant very familiar with the World FIBA atmosphere (Tab BAldwin's role during 2014 World Cup) to guide them throughout the preparation.. that 2014 formula really works for Gilas Pilipinas..

and just an opinion.. if we send Tab Baldwin's team (Belangel, Abbarientos, Ramos, Kai, Tamayo, Baltazar, etc..) to the World Cup, I really do think we will be bulldozed.. That close Serbia game in the olympic qualifiers was really a gulpe de gulat.. none of these college players are familiar to them.. what happened in the dominican republic second half????? bulldozed.. wala na.. probably napagod na Gilas natin plus dominican republic flexed their muscles already..

        so there, my humble opinion...

aside from the style of play, we also dont have a long term nteam development program which starts at the U16 level. For instance, Spain and Argentina's respective golden generation (Ginobili-Scola-Nocioni et.al and Pau-Calderon-Rudy-JC Navarro) started playing as a team during their teen years. System was already inputted in their young minds that they need not train for a long time since chemistry, familiarity and the playing system is already there. Just recall the players for NTeam duty 2 weeks or so and they're good to go.

Philippines on the other hand, relies on the dream team hugot system, most of these players were not part of any U16 team, did not train together during their teen years and virtually just a collection of best talent in the country. And this system only works for one program, USA basketball.

edit: but since this is the hand we are dealt with, we really need a long prep time since, as you mentioned, the playing styles and talent of out players favor the ISO centric plays. Would take time for these old dogs to learn a system

Iran's golden generation (Haddadi, Bahrami, Kamrani etc) started the same way. Winning the Asian youth championship first before rising to the top of the Asian foodchain.

hope this would be the template for the next cycle of gilas especially that we have a tall and talented U16 and U18 squad

The Reyeses insist the NT program is on the right path, and they think they are leading the way. Junior is handling the U16 and U-18 afterschool program , and the kids will graduate eventually to Daddy's Advanced DDO school of basketball

Not everyone will make the 3 month preparation, namely Kai,JC and possibly Edu and probably the Bleague boys,so does that mean they shouldn't be on the team then.

I think the B-league boys would make the 3-month preparation. Isn't the 3-month full time training of Gilas for next year's World Cup would start sometime in May, right? I think the B-league season would be over by then. As we've seen in the previous B-league season, the respective teams of Thirdy, Kiefer, Dwight Ramos & Parks weren't really championship contenders, which means that those teams are not expected to go deep into the play offs. I say by April, our B-league Gilas players would already be available.
"A king may move a man, a father may claim a son, but that man can also move himself, and only then does that man truly begin his own game. Remember that howsoever you are played or by whom, your soul is in your keeping alone, even though those who presume to play you be kings or men of power, when you stand before God, you cannot say, 'But I was told by others to do thus,' or that virtue was not convenient at the time. This will not suffice." - King Baldwin IV

It sure looks that way. Heck if ever Chot is somehow not available Josh would probably be appointed has HC. They're grooming him to eventually replace Chot.

It will start a bit earlier than May since SEA games start May 5. I don't think any of the BLeague boys can make the SEA games roster unless teams allow them to leave early. So far from what I saw, BLeague regular season ends May 7.

No idea about B2 League though (Heading, Paras, Greg)

textbook nepotism, like a political dynasty..anyway i just hope the reyeses will compliment their staff with foreign assistant coaches for technology transfer and not be blinded by their pride/misguided sense of nationalism

And they're wondering why their coaches are getting booed..
If they're getting foreign consultants shouldn't they be hiring now?

I don't get this statement maybe because I have a different definition of it and exposure to NBA level talent. With the exception of players M.Williams, Pringle, Terrence, Caguioa, and Meneses, no pinoy player who's a world class one on one level talent in my opinion.

i think its too late for the 2023 program to hire a foreign coach to help instill a modified system. SBP is probably gonna roll with the Reyeses until WC 2023, im just hoping for a reset/reboot of the program with heavy emphasize on U16 and U18 development which will serve as the core of Gilas by the next decade (wishful thinking though)
