Good news. But will Chot call him up? Not exactly athletic nor advanced offensively, so not really Chots type. I have a bad feeling that his past Fiba performance will not be enough for Chot. Hope Balti does well in JP to force Chots hand

Somebody should tell the PBA,their personal feelings doesn't count as far as the right an individual to seek employment,no law forbidding that, its a guaranteed right.

When Homer Sayson's making good points, you know things are bad.

And, I agree with Homer that Gilas Men need a long-term plan. Lay the foundation for 2027 by calling up a large pool (23-30 players) consisting of WC holdovers and promising youngsters for the February 2024 window. Call up as many FIBA-fit collegiate players, KBL, and B.League players as possible. Gilas draftees too. This should form many of the players that will learn the system. Integrate other talented players as needed throughout the course of the windows.

Then under a promising local coaching staff consisting of guys like Charles Tiu, Goldwin Monteverde, and other promising local coaches, and have Jong mentor them. Eto muna, since unlikely that international coaches will come here after the Tab and Nenad issue. And hopefully, this local coaching staff can focus on defense that can be implemented in FIBA, not just offense.

i doubt that the PBA hates him, he's a Pineda boy after all and all basketball holders, including the clergy and the cronies are beholden to him. Balti probably didnt get clearance from Dalta to join Gilas

for the almost 2 decades of SBP's existence, they always resort to quick fix solutions, and very impatient with regards to development. Gilas 1 was hijacked by the PBA, the Gilas cadets (with the likes of AVO, Pogoy, Wright) led to nowhere while the latest Gilas special draft for a pool was a exercise in futility. If only the heads have the long term vision!

              • Mason Amos grabe he's body is built like a 30 year old veteran. I think he should have a slot and a shot for the 2023 team / pool.

He looks to be a better player than Carl Tamayo

Gilas 1 was always a bad idea. More so now, teams will just keep poaching players like the PBA did but add the KBL and BLeague.

Thing is, the B.League and KBL players are the available ones, most notably in the FIBA tournament season (where there were 5 B.League players and 3 KBL signees).

Heading, according to Quinito, wanted to play, but wasn't allowed by his B.League club: https://twitter.com/pilipinasmuse/st...RYWdF3DdA&s=19

But still, Heading was the exception. Honestly, even if both leagues don't improve our guys, I'd rather take them over the PBA just because of the availability, and it's not like the PBA has done a splendid job of developing FIBA-fit players recently anyway, other than what Yeng did for Oftana, and maybe Pido with Malonzo (yes, Malonzo played wing for Pido, whether as 3 or 4).

I was responding to Homer's argument is for the full time team. Id argue just develop top guys of the level of JC and Kai. The issue isnt that they are "hugots" or whatnot but rather we dont develop enough players of their caliber. If we develop enough guys but they are unavailable because of being in a top league, maybe thats a problem with FIBA and not with the top guys stuck in the NBA or a second tier league.

                        Oh, sorry.

But, actually, if we can develop a large pool of good FIBA-fit players to play a decent system on both ends (preferably WC holdovers and younger players), maybe hugot won't be that big of an issue. If only SBP had the vision for that. Kasi, hugot's the reality of many teams, but they have quality players, and many of them have played with each other in a system.

Install a development program for players to be FIBA-fit, and then have a decent system involved, starting from youth.

If Balti is not available or just doesn't fit then get them both.

Good thing he's going to Ateneo, relatively. At least Tab's gonna force him to learn how to play defense. Hopefully learn to switch too.

SBP better get exemptions for Ballungay and Koon as soon as they finish their Ateneo careers.
