  • ^^ Maybe it would be easier for the SBP to talk to the NCAA and UAAP over PBA over having a synchronized schedule. I think the PBA is hopeless when if comes to getting them to have a real off season

Well, I'm just hoping that since its now becoming very clear that the "hugot" system with an "all-star game" like preparation would never work & with this ongoing pandemic which makes staging a long PBA season very difficult & impractical, PBA people might consider this idea. I know its improbable, but who knows?

yes we realize we are not world mid tier level yet ( like DR) .. but we're one of the best Asian teams using college kids !
Now you're optimistic about these guys. These guys have potential, but man. I hope that translates to a semis appearance or at least 5th in the FIBA Asia Cup.

        • Basta ako, I'm happy for our team. The kids will come out stronger. Their bawi should be the FIBA-ASIA Cup. However, I hope they won't be conceited in thinking that because this is ASIA ay they are sure winners already.

Hope they would focus on their ultimate goal, to reach the 2nd round or even quarters of the 2023 WC.

Well, if there's one positive this ugly loss to DR has brought to our team, then its to be that its a humbling experience. A bitter reminder to the players that much work are still to be done & that they are still far from the best team in Asian basketball

            • Again we are not expecting to much for our young team, this is for 2023 preparation. It is already a bonus and blessings if we win. Of course we want to win tournaments but let us still focus on development for 2023 because i really feel we have a change for podium finish or at least semi finals. Our goal is to reach podium or at least quarterfinals in WC2023, and be number one and champion in Asia, and top 10 in the world. It is a good start.

On for our roster, for me starting in this Fiba Asia cup we must add tall and athletic guards to support Dwight namely; Paras, JGDL, Thirdy, Panopio and hopefully Clarkson to be cleared as local. As for bigs lets add Edu and hope and pray that he is healthy.

I still don't agree including PBA players since they are already old by 2023. But if we want to add PBA players, it may sound strange, but I still like Norwood. For defenders, age is not that necessary , what is needed is smarts and experience. Just look at Bruce Bowen of Spurs and Shane Battier of Miami, they are old but effective defenders.

              • Maybe instead of actually adding PBA players to the core team, maybe the SBP should invite/hire former NT players like Alapag, RDO, Pingris, Hontiveros, Norwood (upon retirement) to be part of the Youth Development program so they can impart their experiences in international competitions to young players

                  WC 2019

Out of contention win from eliminated teams which means not that serious,

Montenegro is not top 20 or last seed Euro.

                  WC 2010

France without their top 5 players

Young Canada team who were last placer. Those teams didn't advance to the quarterfinals.
There is only 1 win of the 6 that is a friendly.
All our official FIBA and world cup in fact, so you're saying if a team like Serbia does not send their best like.Jokic in a World cup it is not counted. Ok.
So if those top 15 teams in the world at world cup are depleted, then isn't it then more embarrassing that Asian teams get blown out and are winless against them.

Why are u talking about NZ and results anyway. The tiers of level players is common accepted knowledge, nothing to debate. DR a top 19 team like 20 other teams in the world simply have more players of that level, nothing to argue.

Norwood and Hontiveroz will be a great mentor to them.

Of course, I meant, when they decide to finish their college eligibility. I hope they go overseas first chance they get, and if they do, hopefully they get long-term deals which offer job security even with a ban threat.

Why the hell did the PBA institute that rule? Honestly, that's really shortsighted. They can get more stars na talagang pang-Pilipinas lang.

As I've said, this shitty anti-dodging rule by the PBA is an anti-national team rule & a pro SMC rule.

Bro, that is the fault of the whole PBA board. Though SMC and MVP has more under their umbrella. Each pba team has a vote on that ruling. Kaya stop just focusing on SMC alone. I hate chua but i dont think RSA wont support gilas. MVP were also dirty with their dealings. Pwde din nga palit management naman para madaming available na players from SMC then will check if MVP group would also be supportive if SBP would be under SMC.

                          • The sad reality is by 2023, 2024 onwards SBP will be losing most of the current members of GILAS to the PBA just like in the past. It will once again beg the PBA and other collegiate leagues for quality players. The cycle continues, the SBP develops the NT, then the PBA and its teams devours the players of our NT.

The real culprit is SBP lacks the power to impose its will on the PBA. PBA, still has the financial and political muscle, SBP is too dependent and connected with the PBA. It needs to assert its mandate.

                            • I think it would be best if we rotate the handling of SBP. Give each 5yrs. That way they would try to out perform each other and somehow there is no monopoly. What is happening is that there is a power struggle between MVP group, SMC and the rest of the pba teams.

It would be best if we change management after 2023 if we falter. SMC is equally capable and equip to run it. That would also show MVP's group true color if they were really for the country or not.

mvp has retired fom pldt and will soon retire from first asia pacific. as he gets older, his interest in international basketball will wane.

maybe after 2023, maybe after 2027.

but once his influence in first pacific wanes, d budget will no longer be there even if his disciples remain in pldt etc.

its d likes of romero that will take over when it happens.
