    Welp, now it's our turn.

I think he meant we dont need to win because we already bought our slot.

      • His quote is open for interpretation. But like Chris Daleo has insinuated , why not build a winning culture?

He is actually not in good terms with his step dad now because allegedly Norman kick him out of his coaching staff for failing to join Meralco in the bubble last year

Well, we've whooped him four times (once with Lebanon, thrice with India). Hahahahahahaha.

Who is Choke Reyes fooling in making such ridiculous statement?

Isn't SBP moving heaven & earth to make Jordan Clarkson play for Gilas in the 4th window so that our chances of beating mighty Lebanon would increase significantly? It is with the thinking that if we beat Lebanon, Gilas fans would be appeased & the hatred of Pinoy basketball fans on coach Choke & SBP people would be mitigated kahit papano. We all know that Choke & Al Panlilio wanted to redeem themselves for all the mess they've brought to Philippine basketball recently.

How do U think Pinoy basketball fans would feel if for instance Gilas loses to Lebanon with Clarkson (& possibly Kai Sotto) reinforcing Gilas? U bet the hatred on Chot would get even worse.

"Nandyan na nga si Clarkson, talo pa rin ang Gilas! Walang kwenta talaga si Chot Reyes!"

                    • I've watched the replay of Jordan-Iran quarterfinal match in the recent 2022 FIBA Asia Cup. What I could notice was that, both teams don't really have deep talent, especially Iran. The Iranians just relied on the "big 3" - Hadadi, Jamshidi & Bechnam Yakhchali in offnese, while Jordan has Tucker, Al Dwairi, Freddie Ibrahim & Amin Abbuhawas as its big scorers. The rest of both team's players are just role players.

What I'm trying to point out here is that such way of thinking by Iran & Jordan basketball (& other countries as well) is quite the exact opposite of Philippine basketball's way of thinking. In Phi basketball, our tendency is to bring as many talents or scorers in the national team thinking that it is how it is done in FIBA basketball. Its "all-star" mentality, which is obviously flawed. Even if you overload Gilas with scorers or stars/superstars, pag walang chemistry or cohesion yan, matatalo yan sa team with inferior talent but with good chemistry & cohesion. Of course, chemistry & cohesion are developed by training, practicing & playing together for a considerable length of time. They don't come overnight. They are not achieved by training/practicing together for 10 days. Guys like Hadadi, Jamshidi, Yakhchali, Mashayekhi, Arsalan Kazemi, have been regular fixtures of the Iran national team in the last 7 years or so. The same could also be said about Jordan's Zaid Abbas, Amin Abbuhawas, Ahmad Alhamarsheh, Dar Tucker, Mohammad Hussein. Those players make up the core of their respective national team, that is why the level of chemistry & cohesion of their respective national teams are just on the different level.

I'm saying this becoz the most likely mistake or misconception that Chot Reyes & SBP people would make for Gilas in the 4th window is to put as many scorers or stars/superstars in the team thinking that yung ang magpapalakas sa team. That is how I predict it since the Gilas team that would be formed for the 4th window would be a mixture of holdovers from the FIBA Asia Cup, PBA players, Clarkson & possibly Kai Sotto. With that 10-day training allotted to the team, what chemistry & cohesion could we expect from it? The worst thing Choke Reyes could do to the team is putting as many as 6 or 7 PBA players, plus Clarkson & Kai, at baka 3 o 4 nalang ang matirang holdovers from the Asia Cup roster.

That would be a perfect ingredient for failure.

Nah! I say the Lebanese aren't that fool to get complacent. With Clarkson & possibly Kai in tow, the Lebanese know that they can't take Gilas lightly. But I think the Lebs are confident that if they play their real game (they play hard), they will beat Gilas.

pwede but, this is an international game. have we ever seen a respectable coached team do something like this? in local leagues sure, pero this team is wearing our flag on their chest. these games are all meant to promote camaraderie thru basketball among member countries. i find it disrespectful making drama like this. we have no choice but to hope this works well but the optics is just bad. put yourself in JC's or Kai's shoes, i'll get out of my way to play for a coach who publicly declaring we dont need to win? even Carl should be uneasy with these statements. he is still in school and he is being taught to lie in hopes to get an advantage?
i am not hoping for a win. i am hoping for a statement win. doesnt matter if its just 1 pt. but if Lebanon doesnt take the lead anytime on the game and we make them play our game, then ill look past these shenanigans. but anything less than that, wala. how can you respect someone who isnt showing respect to his opponents. these statements are made afterwards as excuse. not before the games. if JC and Kai plays along with the newly exempted players, 10 days or not, we have personnel advantage outside of the PG spot. its SBP's call for late practice so we shouldnt accept that as an excuse.

i'm more emphatic to Matic now, as he's indeed a basketball lifer, im not counting the India teams because they are practically a developmental team haha.

but i rewatched the LIB vs Gilas 3.0 team, and wow, that was really a tough game, with Matic doing counter moves to Tab (i.e. zone-disguised double team on Castro in the 4th 6:47 mark), of course standouts were Castro and Blatche, but the endgame hustle/putbacks by Pingris was the finisher, no way LIB can anticipate those contributions from Pingris.

mind games?? it's a sure Gilas loss lol.

unless they enlist superstar firepower and Team USA-esque athleticism to do execute dribble dribble offense

Toroman is a respected international coach in Asia and Europe... Remember he said before SEAG that his Indonesian team has no chance to beat a talented team like Gilas, even most of Gilas fans here at IBN nd in all social media mocking Toroman statements, especially those who hate Indonesia... But look, Toroman reversed it and they beat us last SEAG....
I cant find the article on exactly how he said it but here is a summary-> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eyoWtrdyIII
Indonesia will try to beat Gilas while admitting we have more quality.

they admit, as you said, they have no chance. but with that link you can see that despite that, they are aiming to upset us. and then eventually did. we watched the games, i assume, and im pretty sure CCR could have won it with just some in game adjustments. same line up, same play style. we could have won. but we didnt. will CCR issue as similar statement? lets see. but if you only take the bit where Coach Toroman is saying Gilas is better than Indonesia and not take the interviews afterwards they will try to upset us, thats unfair to Coach Toroman.

ill try to look for excerpts of the interview
