Yeah, I remember that 2-game exhibition series. We also beat Lebanon (with Lebanese cage legend Fadi El Khatib in tow) twice in the 2007 Manila Invitation Cup.

But that was like 100 years ago pa bro!!!! Things have changed a whole lot since then. Besides, its not like we beat Lebanon by an averaged of 15 to 20 pts. per game during that period. Those games were close.

THat is why I strongly advocate that Gilas starts its training a few days from now. We should not wait until Clarkson arrives in August 15, tapos doon pa lang yung Gilas magsa start ng practice. Why not start the training/practices by Aug. 7 since PBA guys like Bolick, Oftana, Malonzo, Japeth, Thompson, Tratter, Arana & as well as Gilas regulars Thirdy, Kiefer, Dwight Ramos, Navarro, Tamayo, etc., are already available? The earlier we start training (kahit hindi pa kumpleto), the better.

      Its common sense.

Maybe Al Panlilio thinks that Gilas with Clarkson, Kai & those highly touted PBA superstars, a Gilas team with 4 days of training is going to beat Saudi Arabia by 50 pts.

There’s a difference between giving you a run for your money and beating you convincingly.

KSA is not going up. They are about the same level as they were last year; worse now because of Al-Suwailem’s injury. More than half of their roster is already in their late 20s or more. They lost to Indonesia by more than 20 with Bolden, who is a huge difference maker as to why we lost in the SEA games. They beat IND twice without Bolden. One of the reasons Chinese Taipei and Japan consistently lose to us prior to Asia Cup is because their players do not match up well with ours. KSA is no bigger than us as well so it’s really a matter of discipline and keeping your head in the game. You need to look at things objectively. As bad as Chot is, he is no means incompetent to the point where he’d lose to a lowly team with Clarkson and Kai in the roster. All his losses were against teams already better than us.

Let me remind you Indonesia had Bolden. Guess what? Look at the other teams in the SEA games? We beat them all convincingly except Thailand who had like 3 Thai-Ams.

Bro, I get KSA has been giving teams a challenge but they are not yet there. I don’t see them beating the top 8 in Asia Cup even with Al-Suwailem. They are more of gulf version of Chinese Taipei.

It’s possible as no one in the KSA lineup can stop Clarkson. By 50? Maybe not. 10-20 is pretty likely. More if they play horribly and without their top Center. Single digits if we play shit.

I say 50 pts if its coach Tab coaching Gilas. With Choke Reyes as coach & SBP usad pagong, I won't even be surprised if Saudi Arabia scores a mighty upset against us!!!

Well, maybe mas mabuti nga na matalo tayo sa Saudi Arabia if only to force Choke Reyes & Al Panlilio to resign from their respective posts.

Eh sa Indonesia nga natalo tayo eh… jordan is 2-2 while KSA is 1-3 w/ tiebreaker advantage vs jordan.. actually this is best chance of either KSA or jordan to beat us since we are in mess… KSA is not india dude…
Will you cool it with the Indonesia loss? They had Bolden and we only lost by 4. He is a difference maker and they even gave Jordan with Tucker, Abbas, and Al-Dwairi a scare. Indonesia with Bolden is not the same as Indonesia with their other import.

I didn’t say they are easy. I say we are still the favorites. The way you make it look it’s as if we are already kulelat. Remember we will have Clarkson in this window and he is also a huge difference maker like Bolden.

The team is still competitive but not good enough to beat the Asia Cup top 8.

And just so you understand, KSA also needs to beat NZ to get that tie breaker with Jordan.

Yeah, I've seen that game last year.

Of course Saudi Arabia is not an easy opponent. The Saudis even proved they can beat a team like Jordan (Jordan with a not so good naturalized player & w/o Al Dwairi). Gilas really couldn't take the Saudis lightly. Specially if the Gilas head coach is somebody named Chot Reyes.

It's not that I'm underrating KSA bro, but I really believe Gilas can beat them especially with our high-class hugots in tow. It don't matter if it's close or wire-to-wire fashion, I just don't see KSA for now in the same level as LIB, JOR, and IRI which are NTs traditionally Gilas has trouble going up against.

Exactly, the hugot style doesn’t work against top level teams like Lebanon, Iran, and Jordan but it does work against teams who do not outsize us.

You’re being too negative against a PBA-backed team. They are still capable but not against top tier Asian teams. And November is three months away. Lots of things can happen like Edu and Ange returning. Pretty sure they’ll just adjust the PBA calendar so we have the high class hugots back in the team.

He says that SMC has the best bigman, and best players at 3 and 4 for Gilas. I agree with the bigman, but I dunno with the 3 and 4, because I think Tamayo and Baltazar are better than the best fours of SMC, and SMC has only Calvin Abueva as a Gilas quality true wing. Oftana, Malonzo, and Navarro are the best options at wing, in my opinion, and only Malonzo has SMC connection (via northPort).

Their best big men are also 30+ years old already.

Seriously, we only need Junemar if we already have Kai, Edu, and Geo for the WC.
