Tim Cone has been eligible for citizenship for decades, just doesn't want to deal with the cost/hassle I guess

Yeah. Reinstate the defensive mindset, disciplined rotation, and get as many versatile defensive players (for FIBA) as possible. However, we need some physicality too. Get used to taking and dishing it.

The tournaments where we went far (2013 and 2015), we were good defensively. The moment we sucked on defense, that was the moment we fell off.

Honestly, I'd want a defensive identity for the team. Emulate NZ's physicality, and just add a defensive system and constant coaching and drilling. If you want a run-and-gun team that is also physical but disciplined on defense, I think UP might be good to emulate. We ran a lot, and we also defended well, especially against Ateneo in the finals. Blitz schemes, pressing, good rotations, and effort on defense.
NZ and Oz physicality is different from the hurtful Espino, RDO style. Somebody put an elbow to JPS best shooter accidentally or otherwise. That is not the way to win. NZ physicality is bodying up guys not hidden punches or elbows. When our PH team first tastes that physicality it led to a melee. Problem is we are not as stocky as NZ or Oz guys. But we can try I guess. Note even prime Tim Duncan was bothered by Oz's physicality via Bogut. Though US has better handled it since.

Were there call ins? Last time they had several. You might need to message their FB page. Even their callers are mostly pro Tab, anti Chot.

If you want allowable physicality here, look at how UP defended Ateneo and La Salle, sorry for the bias. We were physical against them, and they couldn't do anything. However, we didn't take cheap shots at them, just bodying up. Plus, we had good blitz schemes and hustle out to shooters and drivers.

Not sure if the UP physical D is allowed in Fiba. But I guess it is a process to discover what is and is not allowed by the Fiba refs. My guess is bodying up is allowed. But if your man gets pushed visibly, the refs will whistle I guess. Kevin raising his arms to make it harder for Watanabe to score inside was allowed by the refs even if there was arm contact. You can see in Watanabes face that he thought those shouldve been and ones. Too bad Kevin was too short to make the stops. But the defense was decent. If that was say Balti then those wouldve been probably stops.

                        • Though admitting that he is no longer on social media, Gilas Pilipinas head coach and program director Chot Reyes knows that there are calls for him to leave his post with the national team. And some people want him to just step aside and let Gilas’ third window head coach Nenad Vucinic lead. The PBA’s […]

Chot says ‘not much will change’ if Nenad is Gilas head coach

“That’s always a possibility but even if he is the head coach, it’s not going to give us a naturalized player or the players that we want. Not much is going to change. You’re still not going to get the preparation time."

Isn't that the job of the program director Mr. Chot Reyes?

i give up, Chot's too stubborn to give up the coaching position and would just point fingers than owe up to his boo-boos..You can have Gilas all for yourself.

I think the PBA won't give players if Nenad's the coach.

They will. If gilas with mainly kbl and bleague stars attain success, it will further weaken d pba's facade. If gilas fail, easy for nenad n fans to blame d pba people for turning their backs ⁹from d country just when we r d host.
