I understand Gutang made the KBL but the insunation that the KBL would prefer Filbasket talent to PBA talent is nonsense.

plus uaap/ncaa and filbasket players are relatively younger so they could squeeze additional prime years, whereas PBA players, the top of the crop, are either late 20s to near 40

Not to mention the KBL max of 200k per year can easily be matched by a PBA team willing to skirt salary cap rules. Japan is the true threat salary wise.

Yeah, they should be integrated under a proven international coach like Tab or Nenad, at least have them learn how to defend like the 2021 team did against SoKor.
Well they recruit more UAAP players strictly speaking. This is the effect of having near 7 foot FSAs. UAAP players can play in the perimeter and know how to play with or against tall FSAs. Balti is only the first 1st pick candidate to go overseas. Dave will follow next year. Carl maybe or a year after.

PBA will have to rely on ineligibles, like Rosser, and NCAA bigs, Arana et al, to spice up the draft. Ineligibles via the colleges are actually good. But hurts the PBA brand again because the Filfors will again dominate the league. Filfors like the Philips bros, who speak a Filipino language, will actually help though.

thats correct but kbl does have a partnership with pba so middle ground siguro to check on ncaa uaap players
To becomes Asia's Best, we need to compete against the World's Best..
            1 Big 4 small > 5 out offense.

Too much play making and playing at a frenetic pace, I guess. Decided to do it full time at the expense of decreasing his range.

Yeah, it was just Gutang. Sorry for that, because man, the PBA hasn't been that league in a while. Reputation just got lower and lower.

I dont think the PBA has ever been top of asia(Loyzaga was still MICAA era) but its still miles above Filbasket.

                  • First 10 years maybe ( 1975 to 1985 ) , they were top in Asia both in quality and reputation. NBA champions Washington Bullets visited to play PBA All-Stars. Top clubs from Brazil and France were invited to play before. National Teams in the 1978 World Cup in Manila played PBA teams in tune up matches (World champion Yugoslavia lost to Toyota AFAIK).

Professionals were barred in competing in ABC before 1990, so no way a hypothetical NT composed of players from Crispa, Toyota and a few others can test if they can compete with the top NT in Asia.

Yeah Im probably mistaken. I think 1985 was our last year as FIBA Asia champions.

Player go to Korea, just for the experience and soaking up some training knowledge and experience their sport scene. From that point there should be a floodgate of offerings both domestic and abroad.

Thats the NCC All-Amateur team reinforced by naturalized Americans Chip Engeland, Dennis Still and Jeff Moore. That team was a guest team in the PBA, and actually won a conference championship or 2.

Well, Troy entered the PBA at 23, Scottie at 22, Wright and Pogoy at 24. Not that old, still had room to improve.

A more glaring sight is that between 2015 and 2018, only Terrence and Abueva were the positive eligible PBA additions to the lineup. The other positives were still pretty much the same. Castro and Gabe, sometimes Japeth, and then June Mar once Chot figured out how to use him.

True guys like Scottie did improve in the PBA. But most of the skills are developed earlier. Most of the time by 24 you already know if a guy is a gonna be a star.

Although it is late I believe players can improve in the early to mid 20s. The best example is Kawhi Leonard. He graduated from college as an undersized PF with no 3 pt shot. While he always had his defense, he developed his shooting and handles to become the top two way player in the league. And probably around top 3 in the league at his peak. That means though it is ideal to develop players earlier, they can still significantly improve while in the PBA. The best example is Quinahan. He was an undersized center up to when Yeng got him. But gradually he developed his shooting and handles to be able to play SF at times.
