I'm calling it now. With SMC at the helm after 2023, it'll just be like 2007-2009 NT iTerations, all just token participations. I could be wrong, pero i think mas seseryosohin parin nila ang SEAG, ASIAD, and of course, the great PBA

With SMC at the helm, the objective is to showcase the PBA stars with the primary objective of marketing PBA and get more ticket sales for PBA. They may get some of the top amateur players in order to lure them in to play in PBA.

For reference, here's a pool of who I think are our best FIBA-eligible local players right now per position, and their ages at the time of next year's WC:

Guards: Kiefer (29), Dwight (24), Parks (30), Scottie (30), Bolick (27)
Wings: Malonzo (27), Oftana (27), Thirdy (26), Navarro (26), Abando (25), Lopez (20)
Forwards: Baltazar (26), Tamayo (22)
Bigs: Kai (21), June Mar (33)

Only THREE 30-year-olds are in this pool. We can still compete in the future, because most of these guys have at least another World Cup cycle in them.

I dunno if the SBP and PBA heads will agree with me, though.

Moving forward is beside the point . Just realize the SBP leadership has commitments to the PBA as primary stakeholders and to the current program director, and will do anything to make itself look good to the detriment of real basketball competitiveness. If that means resorting to make others look bad to justify decisions of appointment of coaches and sponsors (PBA) so be it . Both need to be the stars and look good (that's their goal)

Everyone is entitled to continue to support Gilas , just don't be naive of what 's happening.

Instead of improving the league, and forcing the coaches to adapt to a FIBA-style lineup and tactical systems, and ADJUSTING THE GODDAMN CALENDAR, make them look good by making non-PBA players look bad.

Apologies for the language, pero tangina na lang kung ganyan. It's like I'm experiencing the GarPax Bulls again. I still supported those bad Bulls teams, but I got frustrated by the level of play and the coaching decisions. Tapos directionless pa.

i understand they should be consulted at the very least. but instead or coming into some sort of agreement, they built a league so they have full control of anything who is signed to any of the teams. control weather or not their players play in the NT or not. so, them over the NT is A reason why there is a PBA. we have to always keep this in mind before we think that they will in any way or shape help the national team. if it doesnt benefit them, waley.

If you think about it, the PBA would still have substantial representation in the pool I put out. That's 6 PBA players in that pool, two ex-PBA players, and a PBA draftee. That's marketing the PBA, while at the same time, we don't sacrifice competitiveness for the NT nor continuity of the roster.

Yes bro. But PBA is not that willing to do what needs to be done to make the national team as competitive as it should be. For one, PBA is not willing to modify its calendar so as to synchronize it with the FIBA calendar. Kahit yun nalang man sana malaking bagay na yun for the national team. The thing is, I think PBA is the only premier basketball pro league of a country in the world which runs during the months of June, July, Aug & Sept. All the other premier leagues in the planet are on their off season at this period which only means that their national players are available by this period.

Then, PBA doesn't want a foreign coach to handle our national team. Its a given that among our current local coaches, none of them can really coach Gilas with enough competence at this point. Its obvious naman that these foreign coaches could do a significantly better job than Pinoy coaches.

1. Is it OK to spend P 1 billion pesos in hosting , i mean seriously, it's easy for us to say yes, but if you're the MVP group is this even worth it ?

2. assuming it is worth to blow P 1 B, for what ? what would be a succesfull outcome ? the arenas are full ? ganoon ba , diba fans can do that by watching NBA stars in the different national teams, is it really Gilas competitiveness, ? let's be real here at this point no matter what we do , it's not realistic for us to make 2nd round . I mean I'm just being real.

So if you're a smart businessman , what do you do ? ( i think Smart / MVP has some brains) ? Answer lessen the budget spend! , how invite SMC and the PBA to take over and spend the bulk for the event. of course this does not come without a trade off, what is the trade off ?? simple. PBA - " kami bida" what we say goes. when you objectively think about it, that makes sense and is actually fair.

Long term investment sir.. easl is pba venture also.. Tab will never coach Gilas at pro bono (using Ateneo Salary alone) Chot can (tnt salary although its unfair but thats reality).. Ateneo peeps will not allow tab go on smc.. so standoff

If the PBA were smart, it will make ASEAN imports a fixtire in PBA teams and sell airimg rights to networks in those countries.

reality is, stars wont go to certain small market teams. Suns, Hornets, even Wizards will find it very hard to purely rely on drafting and hoping those draftees all become stars. they need to trade for stars because, lets see, how many stars walked to their teams to play? not too often. Suns, in particular, is hoping to land KD even if it means trading 4 1st round and 3 swap picks plus ayton bridges and cam j. thats 10 1st round draft picks all for KD. i dont know if they offered all but that is not far fetch to think james jones would do that just for a shot at a title with CP3 (old and injury prone), Booker, and KD. if they dont do this now, CP3 will continue to decline, DA does not fit the system, and offense will once again fall into Booker. and except for CP3, no notable player has knocked on PHX doors since Shaq i think. prior to the last 2 years, PHX was a laughing stock with multiple picks with only Booker and DA as decent picks. if they dont do a push now, they will end up like Wizards. fringe playoff team with no hope of getting a star or enough asset to trade for one. people will have different opinoin on this. hindi lahat GSW. Raps and Heat drafter well but look at their team and you can see they still have start they traded for. Lakers dont need to do anything drastic, someone will knock on their door. if you think Hornets will go anywhere without trading for a center or atleast an all start level mobile big, then keep dreaming because they wont stop Embiid or Giannis.

going back to this thread, SBP and PBA are more concerned with PBA. the writing is on the wall. we can say whatever we feel and want, but if we cant see SBP not helping Coach Nenad. if we cant see they are just letting fans get angry at someone else not named CCR then id rather they tell everyone we'll let Nenad what he wants how he wants it just for 2023 and after that SEA Games at Asia lng ulit ang focus natin. after that PBA lng tayo, damn Gilas. so be it, give me that 1 good shot. talo manalo we gave it our all. i'd rather have that than seeing coach changes every year. player changes every tournament. seeing certain players suddenly have passport because of certain coaches. i'd rather have 1 good shot if we cant have a program.

The optimist in me is praying that it's not purely business for SMC when they 100% take the reins from MPIC. I pray that the conglomerate and its people that would head its basketball leadership group would come in with a chip on its shoulder and would seek to supersede what the rival camp has done in terms of accomplishments in the international arena, perhaps target qualification for the 2028 Olympics thru 2027 FIBA WC. A tall order even for a multi-billion dollar company like SMC, but hey, it's not entirely impossible.

2016 OQT vs France and NZ , around 9 pt avg loss

2018 qualifiers vs Australia (twice) 16 pts loss 1st gsme , 2nd gsme 35 pts blowout in 3rd quarter

2019 FiBA WC 30 pts avg loss, around 5 games

2021 QQT vs Serbia , single digit loss

2022 twice vs Nz , 23 pts loss and 46 pts loss

Now tell me thus isn't bad , and do you see a trend based on who is coaching, ?
