Jamie Malonzo put Quinito's post on his myday in IG. Maybe, he really has PH passport before he reached 16. It was just that he kept mum on this because he is part of La Salle, who was sponsored by RSA back then. They were afraid that Malonzo will be poached by the other camp on the guise of Gilas.

Things are now different because SMC is increasing their involvement with Gilas.

    • Quinito Henson reconfirmed via twitter that Jamie Malonzo really is eligible and that SBP awaited for his clearance to be released by FIBA. Looks like the clearance was just released recently.

Potentially could become the next Gilas Gabe Norwood.

A significantly better offensive player than Gabe Norwood but not as good a wing defender & ball handler as Gabe.

Actually, Ferrer was a legit wing in Ginebra, and could reasonably defend the perimeter. What happened in NorthPort?

kid has questionable work ethic..sayang he's 6'4-6'5 wing, Ababou on the other hand was injury prone

who would have though that out of that UST batch (Daquioag, Ferrer, Teng, Fortuna, Ababou et.al), that Aljon Mariano and Allein Maliksi would have a great career

IRC Ferrer was slightly better on defense than Tolentino now but worse on offense at Ginebra. To me Ferrer had decent tools, length and laterals for a home grown but he did not have the work ethic to develop it. I was not able to see his matches with Parks in college. But I am wondering if his success then was more because he was allowed extra physicality to keep up with Parks quickness. I am also wondering if Parks sustained his chronic shoulder injury in college, particularly against Ferrer?

                • So we now have a large pool of candidates for the SF position until 2027.

                  Malonzo
                  Navarro
                  Lopez
                  Oftana
                  Caelum
                  Konov

Maybe they can convert Lopez to SG, but he needs to improve his shooting, skills, and handles first.

How would you rank this pool in terms of who can immediately help Gilas and who you will include in the final lineup for the FBA Asia Cup?

I didn't include Parks because I think he's an SG.

As for tweeners, they are fours in the European and NBA game. They're in the game because of their versatility. Players like Robert Covington, Draymond Green, the Morris twins, Pascal Siakam are tweeners. Troy should have been this type of player (minus the ballhandling), but ayun, crap happened. At least we have Balti this time, hope we could develop more players like him.

In the Philippines, a lot of tweener forwards are 6'3"-6'4", like Aljon, Belo, Cliff Hodge, CBC, and Sherwin Concepcion. While Aljon and Hodge are versatile, that's kinda too small, and they're the exception.

I hope in the future, players like Kevin Quiambao and Allen Liwag get developed into players who could at least switch to the perimeter, even if they do remain as fours. Versatility should be the name of the game.

He will get opportunities there... Sayang that no more FSA in NCAA but i do hope their coach will not force him to play traditional center.. Arana is already a lost cause since they (AU and now Converge) force him to play traditional center, rather than becoming mobile forwards....
If you don't have a big the size of June Mar, Kai, Chiu, AJ Edu, and Kemark Cariño, I honestly think you should be training your big to be a four rather than a traditional center.

If the big is as mobile and/or athletic as Liwag and Quiambao, best to have them as tweener forwards that can play 4/5 ala Justine Baltazar. You'll make them more attractive prospects in the international setting. Hopefully there are 6'6"-6'7" players that fit this mold.

At least we're going for more realistic targets for exemption, thank goodness.

                            • He is indeed a local says Chot as FIBA gave clearance to Malonzo.

"Malonzo had actually been telling Reyes that he is a local as he received his Philippine passport at the young age of eight."

“Dito pa lang sinabi niya sa akin, ‘Coach, why are people saying that I am not eligible? My mom keeps saying that I am eligible.’ Pagpunta ko ng Las Vegas, nag-usap kami, akin na yung passport,” said Reyes after TNT’s 117-112 win over Northport on Wednesday. “I had a copy of his passport that he got when he was just eight years old. All this while, he is eligible. It just took for me to just ask him.

“So we brought the passport, went through the FIBA process, and now he has been cleared, and now he is part of the FIBA portal as a local.”

They are also working for the clearance of Roosevelt Adams.

This is huge for Gilas since Adams and Malonzo are really lengthy and athletic wingmen.
