Hopefully this means less warnings for scouting reports now, since everyone can see everything at this point.

Problem with men's Gilas is both are not true!
In 2027 - 2030 as I said few weeks ago.

Unless some homegrowns in our teenager prospecst improved a lot.

I really think only Sotto, Tamayo, and maybe Lopez and Baltazar will be in the best team Gilas can assemble.

      Again 2027.

That is a 30 yrs old Baltazar, 27 yrs old Tamayo, 25 yrs old Kai, and 24 yrs old Lopez.

Maybe by then other best Fiba eligible are Fil Fors developed overseas:

Like maybe Harpers, Harris, Konov, AJ, Dwight, etc

Nice write up .. from former IBN er
Reading this a speedy guard like Nonoy would thrive in this system, it’s actually interesting how there aren’t taller guards with similar speed.

        • Now that we don't have Ange and Balti, we're kinda feeling the effects of not having a big that can protect the rim and anchor the defense.

Until now, we haven't had successors to our two defensive anchors, Ping and Gabe.

This makes me even more frustrated that Ange cannot participate in the next games. He's another guy who thrived in a more non-Filipino style of basketball.

            • I worked with Nelson (GM of NZ NBL) to fix things, the PBA can actually learn a thing or two from the experience

Question: is Coach TAB a good coach or is it because of KOUAME? Plus having a good recruitment program. Serious question.. I don't sew anything special from his coaching. Its just he also has the talent pool plus a huge big guy in the middle. Defense made easier..

I reviewed that tweet and found this: https://twitter.com/ChrisDTan/status...9_Ild4hug&s=19

Turns out, he wanted a local coach. Furthermore, he thinks Franz Pumaren and Norman Black did more for college basketball.

                • Serious question, what is it in the Japanese culture that has no issues with foreign coaches, (note they also have no problem with US military based being stationed in Japan) , and note you cannot say Japanese are not patriotic or nationalistic..

So what is it with our mentality that it's such a bad thing to have foreigners as coaches ?

First, Tab won his first ship with an inferior FSA against Mbala. His other starter was a guy who is struggling in the PBA now, Go. If we see with clear eyes, the Ateneo talent are not perfect. Thirdy is athletic and all but a bad outside shooter. Navarro is also not a good shooter.

Yes Ange solved a lot of problems but who developed Ange? Wasnt it Tab and his staff who taught him basketball? Diouf in comparison was arguably developed by Manong Derrick.

Tab is not perfect. Bit in terms of player development and defense he is heads and shoulders over our local coaches.

Who is he and why should his opinion matter?

Yeah Franz did a lot for his college team. By raiding our youth team.

I think this was a reaction to the earlier foreign wave like Purves etc. But I dont think BCAP was instrumental in that. Purves and some of the guys were probably an ill fit for the PBA. And thst stopped because they were not successful.

I think its just BCAP and the big guys behind them. Chot got it all over his head that he was a messiah when Blatche dragged his headless chicken ball to relevancy. But honestly did it ever work without prime Blatche.

We are nobody in internationall ball. It is but logical we pick the brains of international coaches who are good at it.

Danding knew his basketball and hired Jacobs. Ang and MVP doesnt seem to know. Ang fully trusts his operator Chua. And MVP and thr SBP big boys have all their hopes on motivator Chot. In the meantime all the achievements of the international coaches, Tab and Nenad, are conveniently ignored.

If they are honest among themselves they should already pick those two and hire younger coaches as assistants. Technology transfer to Jong Uichico is pointless. We need actual coaches who still have the energy and have the track record to absorb new basketball concepts and apply and spread them.

Who is this Vargas that MVP cant kick him out so Tab can take over the program again?

it’s from way way way back around 30’s to 40’s that the Philippine government priorities filipinos first before foreigner. that sticks until today.. but unlike basketball, soccer and volleyball hires some foreigner coaches..

For military bases they did have problems its just that they decided to dump it in Okinawa, which in a way alienated the Okinawans from the rest of japan. But I digress, af least the japanese know when to backoff if they feel that they need foreign expertise. For filipinos, were still stuck on relieving past glory, I think that Chots success in fiba asia a decade ago has done more harm than good to philippine basketball in long term.

And the way Tab builds his teams is a fit for the international game. His forwards, Verano, Lazaro, Navarro, and Koon, are versatile guys on either or both ends. And now he's getting two perimeter players, Ballungay and Bongo.

He's building his lineups with taller wings and small ball fours with length and versatility. That's the direction Philippine basketball should be going, especially if the team doesn't have a bigman. Go for versatility when you have tall athletes.
