"A king may move a man, a father may claim a son, but that man can also move himself, and only then does that man truly begin his own game. Remember that howsoever you are played or by whom, your soul is in your keeping alone, even though those who presume to play you be kings or men of power, when you stand before God, you cannot say, 'But I was told by others to do thus,' or that virtue was not convenient at the time. This will not suffice." - King Baldwin IV

Originally posted by JAMSKIE View PostBetween Oftana & Will Navarro, the former is the better offensive player as of now, but I think the latter is the better defender & rebounder. Plus one advantage Navarro has over Oftana is Navarro's familiarity with Tab's system, but now that its Choke Reyes calling the shots for Gilas, such familiarity of navarro with coach tab's system would be immaterial.

Its different kasi if Gilas plays in the window qualifiers or FIBA tournament proper like Asia Cup & World Cup as the coach would have a "win now, forget about player development" mentality.
I hope a foreigner like Tab or Nenad is coaching them, though. It would help them get acclimated to playing defense at an international level, since both coaches are defensive-minded.

my god, not another gilas with rosario with pinoy campazzo and bogdanovic, otherwise known as the brick brothers. They probably got incriminating videos of chot that's why they are included always in Gilas. (or they are the gilas equivalent of the semerad twins)

Originally posted by IPC View PostHere's the thing with Abueva, though. He's unique. He has a combination of speed, jumping ability, strength, and motor, which not many 6'1"-6'2" players have.
He and Thirdy are the only 6'2" guys in recent memory that are successful at defending from the 3 position internationally. At least from what I've seen. The rest I've seen are Gabe, Dwight, Navarro, and probably MGR, all 6'4" and above. You're more likely to find good wing defenders from the latter taller group, although their length and defensive instincts also helped.
He has the height, length, and quickness to close out on shooters, keeping them to a low percentage.
Height won't play the biggest factor, but you're likely to find good length with taller players.
