That is why it is very significant for Gilas to participate in less important international tournaments like the Jones Cup, King Abdullah Cup, Dubai Invitationals, etc. Ito yung mga tournaments where the Gilas coach can give a purely developmental player like Francis Lopez (current) & Kobe Paras (some 5 years ago) ample playing time in which Gilas can somewhat afford to risk at the expense of winnability. Its different kasi if Gilas plays in the window qualifiers or FIBA tournament proper like Asia Cup & World Cup as the coach would have a "win now, forget about player development" mentality.

And Chot prefers offensive players, mainly shot creators, even at the cost of defense. Navarro's use on offense is just moving the ball around and grabbing offensive rebounds, so Chot would put him aside for a better shot creator at 3, like Dwight, Thirdy, and Wright, never mind the fact that Thirdy's undersized at 3, and Wright is a defensive liability.

King's Cup was in August, Jones Cup is in July, and Dubai Invitationals are in February. Jones Cup and Dubai tournaments do not conflict with the UAAP and NCAA seasons, so we can send 19-22-year-old players. If possible, maybe even 17-18-year-old high school prospects.

I hope a foreigner like Tab or Nenad is coaching them, though. It would help them get acclimated to playing defense at an international level, since both coaches are defensive-minded.

I hope our good people at SBP are aware of this & will have the initiative to make a Gilas team composed of B-league players & college players play for those tournaments. Dapat kasi there are definite plans for those tournaments several months prior, hindi yung 1 month to go nalang yung tournament eh saka pa lang magpa plano.

my god, not another gilas with rosario with pinoy campazzo and bogdanovic, otherwise known as the brick brothers. They probably got incriminating videos of chot that's why they are included always in Gilas. (or they are the gilas equivalent of the semerad twins)

He and Thirdy are the only 6'2" guys in recent memory that are successful at defending from the 3 position internationally. At least from what I've seen. The rest I've seen are Gabe, Dwight, Navarro, and probably MGR, all 6'4" and above. You're more likely to find good wing defenders from the latter taller group, although their length and defensive instincts also helped.
                  Some on Navarro: https://twitter.com/_alba__/status/1...kdLkvKfHA&s=19

He has the height, length, and quickness to close out on shooters, keeping them to a low percentage.

Height won't play the biggest factor, but you're likely to find good length with taller players.

                  • Cryptic article on the SBP website about a cryptic meeting between RSA & MVP:

I also have a bit of a bad feeling about this. I feel it might be a plan to hijack Gilas going into the 2023 WC. And under Chot Reyes as the coach, no less.

MVP leaving his post before the WC would be illogical considering the time and money he put into the hosting, but reality often defies logic
