Shame he didn't take that Japan offer. Might have been available for the Asia Cup and some windows.
Is he really a good perimeter defender though? I mean Fiba level?

That remains to be seen. While he did play well, that's against Thailand.

It might translate, as he has the quickness and length to keep up.

Which isn't a good barometer. Thailand lang kasi kalaban.

We dont have many tall lean players. At the very least Oftana should be included in the pool and tested out against better teams.

          • I have different perspective it doesnt matter if you play thaialnd or new zealanad, navarro played well with tab, lol Navarro isnt even useful against thailand and India with chot and look like he isnt ready., if oftana was useful with tab he can be a good asset as he is pba starter level now(a 3 point threat on that one). But theres rey suerte who is good but cannot crack tabs rotation

Di ko alam sa SBP if really natutulog sa pansitan Oftana is a talent at their disposal taht they can borrow...I can't blame yeng if he is preventing him though as SBP as good as useless in dealing Kiefer's situation..
To becomes Asia's Best, we need to compete against the World's Best..

            • Players need reps in league play, (FIBA is too limited exposure to learn a specialized role to be proficient). The PBA isn't a league to learn FiBA oriented basketball

Still its very different seeing a certain player's performance against quality opponent.

Let's put it this way, in the 2017 SEA Games, Kobe Paras played a hell of a game in the gold medal match vs. Indonesia (subrang hina pa ng Indonesia team at that time as compared to now). But the question is, would Kobe Paras be that efficient (or somewhere close to that) against teams like Jordan, Lebanon, Iran or Kazakhstan?

The PBA guys won't like this. The oldest league in Asia. Hahahahahahahaha.

Unfortunately, yeah, it's true. The PBA doesn't have many good players that can play in FIBA, and a lot of them are old. Well, a FIBA playbook and/or defense hasn't won in the PBA. Maybe EASL appearances for PBA teams will expose them to more FIBA-style basketball, especially from the Koreans and maybe Japanese.

Youre correct about it, but we never knew, kobe wasn't really exposed against this teams yet he was really more of jack of all trades guy in tabs system but with chot he was the athletic guy the fast break finisher and weakside defender et. al..We just hope that Gilas would have an opportunity again to work with Kobe..

Suerte actually cracked Tabs rotation in the Abdullah cup. I think he scored double figures in a game. He wouldve probably still be in the pool if Tab was coach. Navarro showed how useful he was against Korea. He and Balti helped in limiting Hyun Jung Lee. He needs more structure though because his individual offensive skills is a work in progress. He is a decent dribble for a 6'6 guy. But he doesnt have a sureball go to move. But I would pick him now over Javi because of his defense and superior height and length.

What would I like to say that even when Navarro played well with tab, Oftana played better.. On all the Gilas games navarro's worth was really felt in the korea games, I still see Oftana as troy like hopefully like troy he gain crack at main gilas rotation., But hiddenly wishing to translate his outside sniping in fiba comp.. troy might be more of a swiss knife but calvin can be a scorer 3..

I would also like for Oftana to be back in the pool. Its good that Yeng lets him play in the perimeter and even bring up the ball at times. He also defends the perimeter at times I think.

Kobe Paras didn't get enough exposure with the Gilas cadets under coach Choke Reyes in the 2017 Jones Cup as he was said to be injured at that time. That would have been a good exposure for Kobe. I think he was 19 yrs old at that time. Limited playing time lang nakuha ni Kobe with Gilas in the few games that he played there & he missed a number of games becoz of injury. I think the 2017 Jones Cup offered better competition for our Gilas cadets than the 2017 SEA Games as the cadets played against teams like Canada, Taiwan's national teams A & B, Japan's developmental national team, Iraq, Iran's developmental national team, & Lithuania in the Jones Cup.

As if were surprised, Chot also didnt use Lebron lopez in the "tougher games" but was unleashed in games that we supposed to win, might be a change of approach is needed chot as you have a magic hugot in them in crucial games

                              • Between Oftana & Will Navarro, the former is the better offensive player as of now, but I think the latter is the better defender & rebounder. Plus one advantage Navarro has over Oftana is Navarro's familiarity with Tab's system, but now that its Choke Reyes calling the shots for Gilas, such familiarity of navarro with coach tab's system would be immaterial.
