You need an academy for both players and coaches. SBP should hire Nenad, Tab, and other good foreign coaches for that academy type program, to mentor the coaches and the players.

      • Per Sonny Barrios, CCR will be back for the Asia Cup. Plus, CCR is supervising Nenad right now regarding the 3rd window.

no wonder, Philippines is still a third world country. just read the statements of these old dudes (Barrios and Vargas) from SBP/MVP camp and you will see why.

LOL. Chot needs to rest and let them handle the task.
He’s supervising TNT team, batang gilas with his son, coach nenad and seminars (non-gilas activities).

-According to Sonny, the MVP group is reaching out to San Miguel to collaborate on WC 2023. group is also approached. The government also.

Well he is probably lying. I would guess it is true that the SBP was reassessing the program before sticking with Chot. That being said it is really toxic. One person here was jokingly wishing Chot committed seppuku. I wonder what other more toxic avenues had to offer.

Well, I think people here in IBN don't expect Konov to be some sort of an NBA material (like what some of us here expected from Kobe Paras). But Konov might turn out be the more serviceable small forward for Gilas in FIBA competition than Kobe Paras.
"A king may move a man, a father may claim a son, but that man can also move himself, and only then does that man truly begin his own game. Remember that howsoever you are played or by whom, your soul is in your keeping alone, even though those who presume to play you be kings or men of power, when you stand before God, you cannot say, 'But I was told by others to do thus,' or that virtue was not convenient at the time. This will not suffice." - King Baldwin IV

Liga endesa, b-league, nbl, serbian league, lithuanian pro league doesn't have problem with their own players playing outside their pro leagues..

Because basketball federations of these countries get it and knows what needs to be done to become international powerhouses in FIBA (pwera ang JPN, they need to consistently win first against Asian powers without their NBA players).

                        While SBP, on the hand...

SBP never understood it. SBP's idea of development is herding players towards Ateneo. Of course that isn't a good idea if one wants a united basketball program..

because the boomers in the PBA board still thinks that the PBA is the best league in Asia and is second only to the NBA (in terms of age) hay, the board lacks self awareness

That's interesting about volleyball, may ask what would you attribute this to ? where most fans think we're better than we really are ?
for the longest time we've thought the Philippines is much better in basketball than it really is . (and i think this still exist)

Is this a celebrity syndrome , where if one is sikat they must be good ?
Lack of no-nonsense but genuinely, well-meaning critiquing from revered figures of the sport.

Then again, it doesn't matter, really. Any sport here in the PHL that has a wide mass appeal and has the potential to become a commercial hit, it's just carried by overhyping.

People/institutions with vested interests on the sport are still very much needed for the advancement of the program (can't deny that) but in the end, they really are a huge pain in the ass of the collective Filipino basketball fandom.
