  • I’d rather see a repeat of Tab’s team’s performance rather than the 2014 world cup. Tab’s Gilas was carried by our local youngsters, the import was part of the system instead of a super mercenary carrying the load for a lackluster coach/politician. The fact that the return of chotty also returned the sentiment for another super mercenary in the mold of Blatche or Balkman will further reinforce the lack of trust for local players, the same lack of trust that created the Rosarios and Pogoys of Philippine basketball. It’s freeing to see that Dwight, Thirdy and Baltazar are now detached from this kind of environment playing overseas, imo playing overseas might not be a guarantee that Dwight, Thirdy and Baltazar will reach the levels of European players but they’ve surely raised their ceilings playing outside of the PBA, just looking at Dwight and Thirdy’s inspired performance against New Zealand compared to PBA’s top scorers like Bolick makes me confident of that opinion.

Moving forward I think Thirdy, Dwight and Balti would be way more solid 3nd players than any pba players would be around Kai Sotto or/and Jordan Clarkson, provided they are handled by anyone else other than fucking Chot Reyes who’ll probably Blatched, Castroed or Balkmaned whatever good team we have assembled to showcase Philippine basketball. Now I’m hella invested in the career trajectories of Dave Ildefonso and Carl Tamayo, seems these 2 would very likely see the lure of going for overseas offers and ofc Lebron and Caelum. With this level of promises and talent we need an import who’s more like a backup dancer rather than the main piece, pba players also struggle in being backup dancers, they’re very ball dominant but not to their volition but rather how that league molds them that’s why although B League dont necessarily produce individually superior players is a way superior environment and maybe KBL too which we’ll see with Belangel. Of course I just want to get rid of chotty first order of business and I wanna see Tab’s demands for changes in SBP personnel because I’m confident that demand is probably for the best.

    • Oh I forgot about being Mikey Williamed, basically just living and dying off of a player who’s a cut above the rest because you’re a shitty fucking coach who definitely should not handle the national team.

Vucinic says Tab Baldwin asked him to help the Gilas Pilipinas program: It was a great opportunity to be involved in the World Cup again.

Vucinic: It's exciting to work with SBP to prepare Gilas for next year's World Cup.

Vucinic says the current Gilas program needs consistency in terms of players, adds the availability of personnel is a problem.

Vucinic says Gilas won't have PBA players in the third window of the FIBA World Cup qualifiers and FIBA Asia Cup.

Vucinic on collegiate stars like Justine Baltazar and James Spencer begging off from the national team: All the players have circumstances around them. We're hoping they'll be part of the program in the future.

Vucinic says Gilas has started training for the third window of the FIBA World Cup qualifiers: Next week, we're going to South Korea to play in preparation games.
So... the question is, will PBA/TNT interfere with the lineup come Fiba Asia Cup? I hope not.

Yeah. In as much as we hate Choke Reyes, we love Philippine basketball so we still support Gilas & follow every game of that team.

Remember that howsoever you are played or by whom, your soul is in your keeping alone, even though those who presume to play you be kings or men of power, when you stand before God, you cannot say, 'But I was told by others to do thus,' or that virtue was not convenient at the time. This will not suffice." - King Baldwin IV

If it is, it just reinforces my decision to stop watching Gilas games as long as Chot and the current SBP are at the helm.
Yes, it's just for the 3rd window.

Actually we do have a choice to settle with B league, , other overseas leagues, MPBL, Glas cadets to form a team with No regular PBA players or college players
It's actually the stakeholders that don't want to do this. But it is possible, it was possible in Feb and it's possible for 4th and 5th window. NO problem at all.

FIBA World Cup right in the Philippines without representation from the PBA is unthinkable in the eyes of common and casual PHL basketball fans, which is the majority of the fans. Maybe like 31M+. There are only few like minded people like us. I wouldnt say we number like in the 14M. But fewer perhaps

Wouldn't be surprised if it's just a million like-minded people.

It was possible, even when the SBP released Go, the Nieto twins, Bulanadi, and Suerte right after Tab resigned. We could still form a 12 to 15-man pool even without them.

SBP kasi, e. They changed direction to reliance on the PBA (again).

And it's not like that team is to lose more than 23 pts as the PBA team did.
And realistically if Ange was allowed to play so can 2 more like Dave and SJ... no problem at all. They just made it a convenient excuse to justify the change of direction
Also if the coach can be different from the program director pala like Nenad and Chot. Then why couldn't Tab stay as program director while we had a different coach in Feb like Chot. It's really pa lusot justification.

                            "Coaching Trademark
                            - Puts premium on hard defense
                            - Demands good work ethic, dedication and hustle on the court
                            - Offense pattern starts in the perimeter, lots of screen and off-ball movement
                            - Love to have outside shooters from his wingmen and toughness inside from his big men"

Hope the defense is true, since that was what we lacked in the SEA Games.

Here's the pool, even with the release of Go, the Nieto twins, Suerte, and Bulanadi:

                              Gilas draftees: Rangel, Tungcab, Navarro
B.League: Dwight, Ravena brothers, Kobe, Javi, Cariño
                              UAAP: Ange
Free agents: Bolick, Lopez, Greg, Juan

This is 14 men. This could have been a reasonable pool for the February window.

Now we know why Tab Baldwin won't coach Gilas in next year's World Cup & instead its coach Choke Reyes who will call the shots. That's becoz if Baldwin is the Gilas coach, he probably would be getting only 2 or 3 (at most) PBA players. That's something PBA people can't accept. They obviously want to ride the Gilas bandwagon for the 2023 FIBA World Cup. Pa epal talaga ang PBA.
