The only thing that Filipinos should be handling when it comes to basketball is in the organization aspects(selection of coaches, ample preparation time and the ability to call up our foreign based players), when it comes to individual player development, it's really best if pinoy players will just continue abroad and get groomed in better, more progressive environments.
Thats why its not easy to do things here 8n Philippines even if it makes sense .

Thats why PBA can't just shorten the season. Lets think realitiea onthe ground

Ron Jacobs' NCC program was able able to keep the team impact for a considerable period becoz the lure of the PBA wasn't that strong at that time. But things became different since then as gumanda na swelduhan ng PBA players.

As we saw in Toroman's Gilas-1 program, 3 years lang tumagal ang team as Gilas players were lured to climb to the PBA. Kung kailan nagsisimula na yung mga Gilas players to reach their peak, that was when the lure of the PBA gets stronger.

And things became even more difficult & complicated now since hindi lang yung lure ng PBA that the Gilas program have to deal with. There's now the lure of the B-league, Taiwan & South Korea pro leagues.

So how can we keep our Gilas players stay with the national team for a considarable amount of years with the lures of PBA, B-league, T1 league & KBL?

Remember that howsoever you are played or by whom, your soul is in your keeping alone, even though those who presume to play you be kings or men of power, when you stand before God, you cannot say, 'But I was told by others to do thus,' or that virtue was not convenient at the time. This will not suffice." - King Baldwin IV

Yeah the problem with a full time Gilas squad will always be offers abroad. Since the Gilas squad is sponsored by MVP, he can talk to the PBA but he doesnt hold sway over other leagues.

First the idea is born out of non commitment of our Basketball stockholders to our NT. Form a pool of 20 to 25 with 3 years contract. Full time training, and to play tournament all over the world year round. Which I believe is the case with CTab program until pandemic hit. After 3 years those who will stay then can continue and those who wants to play pros will be release. Then replenish the pool again. I think we can maintain a pool or core. It will be much easier to integrate players who wants to play again for NT.

It was done before with NCC and Gilas 1. Just 5o maintain a pool of players that know the system and have chemistry.

          • CCR Gilas coach for life lol!

            '

CHOT Reyes acknowledged that he is “the most hated man in Philippine basketball” after the SEA Games debacle in Hanoi but reiterated he will continue to give his best as head coach of Gilas Pilipinas.

Reyes on Sunday said he is coping up with the tremendous hate he is receiving in different platforms by working in his different roles as Gilas Pilipinas coach as well as TNT mentor for the PBA.

“Believe it or not, it was a welcome relief for me,” the 58-year-old mentor said of shifting gears from Gilas Pilipinas to TNT which he led to a 78-72 win over Magnolia to start its PBA Philippine Cup campaign.

Reyes said he actually went straight to TNT practice the morning of his arrival from Vietnam, just hours after Gilas Pilipinas lost to Indonesia in the gold-medal game in Hanoi.

“Alam niyo naman ang nangyayari. With that loss, I am today the most hated man in Philippine basketball," the five-time PBA Coach of the Year said.

"Sabi ko nga, at least, upon my arrival, we arrived at 7 a.m. in the morning and I went straight to Talk ‘N Text practice at 9. For me, it was a gift of busyness just keeping myself busy and pre-occupied and doing my other stuff.

"Aside from TNT practice, I continued to oversee the Gilas practice with coach Nenad [Vucinic] and the other guys. I’m taking a look at the Under-16 preparations as well. They are leaving in a few days for the Under-16 tournament.

“I just keep myself busy. Like I said, there’s very little I can do with what happened, unfortunate as it is. All I can do is all I can do, really. Whatever is in front of me, the tasks that are given me here to coach Talk ‘N Text, help in the negotiation with Mikey Williams, to continue overseeing the [Gilas] program with coach Nenad and the college guys overlooking the Under-16,” said Reyes.

Reyes said he had also stayed away from social media.

“I’m completely logged off. I don’t see anything that is written about me. I’m not on Instagram. I’m not on Twitter. I’m not on Facebook. Aside from the gift of busyness is the gift of silence.

"And I’m very thankful because I’m logged off, I am able to do so many things. Dami ko nagagawa kasi wala ‘yun eh. That distraction is not in the picture. That’s one way I cope with it,” said Reyes.

Reyes said he is also thankful to his family and friends who have helped him after the SEA Games.

“With the help of my support system, my family, my true friends including members from you guys [media], I really appreciate when some of you reach out, ask me how I am, how I’m doing. Malaking bagay sa akin ‘yun.”

“And these guys,” referring to the TNT players, “really my refuge and my source of solace is my team. The players who continue that in spite of everything give their trust to me.”

Moving on from the loss in the SEA Games, Reyes vowed that he will do the best of his ability as Gilas Pilipinas coach.

“Like I said, all we can do after an incident like that is to just stand up. Ang daming nagtatanong, 'Paano ka bumangon.' Sabi ko simple lang, 'Bumangon ako. Hindi ko pinangarap. Hindi ko pinagdasal. Bumangon ako. I just stand up.'

"Nobody else can pull myself up expect myself. My support system is there, the team, the players. And as long as I know that I’m doing my best, I’m doing the job I’ve been asked to do, I’m going to do it to the best of my ability, regardless of what other people say,” said Reyes.

It’s not bravery, it’s pure unadulterated narcissism. Most fans want Gilas to be successful and they think Chot is a barrier to that, the fact that this guy thinks the show’s main plot is seeing him fail instead of seeing the program succeed in somebody else’s hands is trademark narcissism.

Embarassment and humiliation isn't enough to make him quit.

If that's the case then we can only keep players in the national team while they are in their early 20's. Pagdating nila ng mga 23 or 24 yrs old, they will be lured to turn pro. The thing is, players who are 23 or 24 are not yet on their peak. A player usually reaches his peak at 27 or 28 yrs of age.

How old are Thirdy & Dwight Ramos when they played in the B-league? Di ba parang 23 yrs old pa lang sila noon? Its obvious that they have not yet reach their peak.

Gilas would be on a disadvantage if our players are just in their early 20's while yung mga national players ng ibang countries are in their late 20's & early 30's. Nasa peak na yung mga kalaban natin while tayo bagito pa lang at kulang sa experience.

He's gonna see through his contract, all the way up to the World Cup.

Well, at least the system might be taken care of already if the core is composed of the Tab team in June 2021, which might mitigate the bad substitution patterns to an extent.

when the ticket sales and viewership of gilas drop next year, that will be attributable to the insistence of SBP to retain Chot as the head coach of Gilas.

Oh how I would love this to happen!! I hope there would be a backlash in terms of Gilas support & interest from Pinoy fans so that SBP people would realize their foolishness.

                              • damn, we're stuck with Chot until the WC, I guess we either boycott all the games or attend the games with placards/traps/banners protesting against Chot's decision. Or we could all wear black while attending games to mourn for the death of RP Basketball at the hands of Chot and SBP/ Grabe, chot is a typical politician, shameless and kapit tuko
