As soon as this SEA Games basketball competition is over, coach Chot should start the training/practices of the Gilas pool bound for the FIBA Asia Cup & the 3rd window qualifiers for the 2023 FIBA WC.
College players like Tamayo, Baltazar, RJ Abarrientos, Dave Ildefonso, Belangel, as well as Jordan Heading who had a stint in the Taiwanese pro league, need to learn coach Chot's system. On the other hand, Kouame, Dwight Ramos, Thirdy, Navarro, Go, who had already played under coach Chot recently would still need to assimilate themselves further with coach Chot's system."A king may move a man, a father may claim a son, but that man can also move himself, and only then does that man truly begin his own game. Remember that howsoever you are played or by whom, your soul is in your keeping alone, even though those who presume to play you be kings or men of power, when you stand before God, you cannot say, 'But I was told by others to do thus,' or that virtue was not convenient at the time. This will not suffice." - King Baldwin IV

And TNT should appoint Coach Chot replacement for meanwhile.
So Coach Chot can focus on the national team

Of course, having Balti, Navarro, Lopez, Dwight, and Ange for the Asia Cup will greatly help our defense. Again, we should establish defense as our identity.

Defense isn't really complex. You can search the internet for guides. What matters most is we execute.

Both coaches have teams that are disciplined on defense, and Goldwin turns on the pressure only when there is a need, he times his pressures (hard hedges, blitzes, and presses).
And both don't mind using taller but not-so-skilled players at 3. Chito used Rome dela Rosa and Aris Dionisio at 3, even if both can't create their own shot. Goldwin uses Spencer and even 6'6" Lucero at 3. I'm sure both coaches wouldn't mind using Navarro, Lebron, and even Balti at the 3 spot.
A coaching staff of Tab, Goldwin, Ayo, Charles Tiu, and Chito Victolero would be a dream for Gilas.

The strategy to beat any Chot-led team: zone defence.
At least Chot's kinda making an effort to adjust offensively. Need a better defense.Last edited by IPC; 05-21-2022, 06:19 AM.

Originally posted by IPC View PostThat foundation should include, in my opinion, solidifying the defense, which I think helped us get two Asia Championship silvers, and helped us beat SoKor. We need a defensive coordinator. If not Tab, then Chito Victolero and/or Goldwin Monteverde could do, and I think the latter two need coaching experience in the FIBA seniors scene. We also need players like Thirdy, Dwight, Ange, Navarro, Balti, and maybe Calvin Oftana (later in the year, maybe in August), who can fill holes in the defense.
