  • There are a lot of players with taller parents compared to Kai's parents, for Kai to be 7'3 and decently mobile is really a miracle.. very rare indeed..it's rare already for anyone in the world , but especially rare for a Filipino.
And true enough that's why he's the only Pinoy homegrown that will get to that high level

I think a Prime 27 yrs old Kai can Compete against NZ team A Bigs.
Depends on his body actually. If in 2-3 years it's there, we'll be talking about lots of prime years for Kai.
Philippines is in National Team transition mode.

      • Just in case Kai does not secure a full year NBA contract throughout his career, it's really not disappointing if one realizes how difficult it really is to make the NBA ..
We should still view Kai as a succes , I mean to be around top 100 prospect , play in Ignite and NBL, that's already a huge accomplishment

Look at it this way, Timmie who is NCAA star for Gonzaga and DJ Johnson a 36ers great may never get a full NBA contract. It's really no shame if one does not

Yeah. Will probably be true even after a decade or two.

Unless, his brother Timothy grows as tall as him, and develop his basketball in US. (Assuming he play the sport)

That is, if you all will still consider Timothy as Homegrown Filipino even if he will develop all his basketball development in US in this hypothetical scenario. Lol

Tungcab, Rangel get SBP release, join PBA teams

Two more Gilas draftees have secured their release from the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas. Jaydee Tungcab and Tzaddy Rangel have already been released from their bond with Gilas Pilipinas Men. “Yes, he’s been released and has started working out with us,” Road Warriors head coach Yeng Guiao told ArangkadaNLEX.com. Tungcab also confirmed the development to […]

so what's the point of the Special Gilas draft then? plus looks like the Nteam for 2023 will be dominated by PBA players, goodbye long term player devt

It will be. I think the only Non Pba Player in 2023 Gilas will be

Naturalized Player (Whether JC or Ange)
              Kai
              AJ (if Healthy)

              Those 3.

And then Balti, Tamayo, and maybe Caelum and Lopez would be at least in the pool.

I also think and expect Kai to be a Fiba Asia Top Player in years to come. As in Mythical 5 Fiba Asia level Player.

If Castro can, Kai can too.

Will be harder for Kai though since Australia and NZ is combined with Asia Now.

Will be the NZ team who will play in Fiba WC qualifiers in July 3 will be the same as the NZ team who will play in Fiba Asia Cup in July 17?

I just realized Next Window of Fiba WC Qualifiers, and Fiba Asia Cup is just 1 week apart.

I hope Gilas Will have the same core and lineup. Also, I hope the availability of our best players are ok

No there will be a few tweaks, mainly because the better older players like Abercrombie , Loe , Ili will not mind playing 1 window game at their home city in front of family, but would not be amenable to traveling to Jakarta Indonesia and stay their for 2 weeks. Remember the NZ Breakers players are tired and burnt out having been playing on the road for 5 months now ! (People do not understand how difficult that is)

Who started making excuses that their senior team did not have players and lack preperation last February?

Yup puro 2nd tier bench NBL players are sent and they live and die no excuses with the bench warmers who practice for 2 days

there was a point when CTB was the head of Gilas as he was trying to not need PBA while having warm bodies waiting for his core players. Now that he and his direction is gone, wala na silbi yun special draft

I really believe it boils down to the system you are used to. Kahit bench warmers pa yan pero same system nman alam nila since nasama sila sa any National team (youth level to Senior teams), may pagasa pa rin talaga manalo kahit ilan days lang nagpractice mga yan kaysa nman papalit palit ng sistema at wala direction kahit 3 months pa yan magpractice, dehado pa rin yan manalo. just saying.

Depends also on the gap of Starters and Bench warmers. Or in this case, the gap of team A and team B.

It should work both ways. Coaching System and Players Talent.

Kailangan di rin trash mga players. I mean at least respectable.

The Ideal Will always be Best Coaching System + Best Talented Players.

But of course with this window format, it will not always be the case

its always boils down to the system i agree. just look at new zealand even though they sent their b team in the last fiba window they still played like a well oiled machine. sa gilas naman laging nagpapalit ng coach naturally the players need to adjust & adapt to the new system in a short span of time.

And therein lies the problem. Gilas should have a consistent system starting from the youth level, going from NZ and Aussie basketball, and if I may use football examples, Ajax and Barcelona in Europe. Same system from youth to the senior team, and the coach must have that system as a base, adjusting when necessary.

I think to start, Gilas should first focus on defense as a primary identity, then moving the ball and everyone, including the stars, scoring within the flow of the offense. Seems not very likely that Chot will focus on defense, but who knows, let's see.
