kaya nga eh. hindi naman as if magbebenta yung bata. lol if he effs up 2 or 3 plays then bench him. but at least he should've gotten a chance. at this point kasi at least he is a wildcard. unlike others, you already know what your are going to get.

      • Afaik, lopez signed with the OTE (waiting for his visa, and docs) so that’s why he’s not in the line-up for that king abdullah cup?
        Correct me if I’m wrong
        Thanks

I agree. Actually, Lopez should've been in both games

          But, "that's Chot Reyes mentality"
          "Takot matalo"

Ironically, Tab only played Lopez once (against lowly Indonesia) while he had A LOT OF OPPORTUNITIES to play him. Could've played him at least once vs korea. The OQT is understandable tho, i think, he could've been of actual use vs dom rep. But, the worst of all, he was even left out of the lineup for the king Abdullah cup. At least, Lopez should've been in that squad. But, of course, Baldwin can do no wrong while Chot can do nothing right, ain't it?
As they say, "The proof of the pudding is in the eating". Tab piloted the Gilas cadet team to a 3-0 sweep in the 3rd window of the qualifiers for the 2022 FIBA Asia Cup which was highlighted with back-to-back HUGE wins versus traditional mentor South Korea.

I credit coach Chot Reyes for piloting Gilas-2 to the silver medal in the 2013 FIBA Asia Championship & those "moral" victories in the 2014 FIBA World Cup. Those were no mean feat. I give credit to whom credit is due. But since then, it has been a downhill for coach Chot as far as being Gilas head coach is concerned.

I don't blame coach Tab for suiting Lopez only in that game vs. Indonesia in the 3rd window Asia Cup qualifiers while siting him down for those 2 big games vs. Korea. Let's face it, those 2 games vs. the Koreans meant so much for us Pinoys.

The thing is, I sleep better at night with coach Tab as Gilas head coach than its Chot Reyes at the helm.
"A king may move a man, a father may claim a son, but that man can also move himself, and only then does that man truly begin his own game. Remember that howsoever you are played or by whom, your soul is in your keeping alone, even though those who presume to play you be kings or men of power, when you stand before God, you cannot say, 'But I was told by others to do thus,' or that virtue was not convenient at the time. This will not suffice." - King Baldwin IV

          • I said it many times before and I won’t mind saying it in a billion times, if those basketball stakeholders think that claiming SEA games gold will save faces in the eyes of the hardcore basketball fans then that’s a very stupid perception because little did they know, gradually, those so-called fanboys /fangirls are now getting wiser and wiser by the day that by sending those PBA boys in that tournament will not benefit Pilipinas Basketball moving forward because the right exposure are towards our Asean brothers on the long run, which for me is a good gesture on our part because it shows that we are helping the development here in the SEA and somehow narrow the gap if that’s the real intention but if it is otherwise on why they are not sending the young-lings because of that self-conscious “Takot Matalo” thing then it shows how stupid those primitive minded SBP peeps are.

            • The larger issue , is lack of focus of Gilas on long term development that looked promising last year .
As compared to the revamp Gilas program assumed by Chot. That does not have the same long term development focus, with a perceived change of direction. This is the main concern of Gilas fans. And you can't blame them for believing this is the case, given recent and historical developments.

It isn't actually true that there was no available players to field that Chot could use other than TNt players., it's just that the Gilas guys who were practicing in December were really not good and too young . So as such the takot matalo Reaction

Look if Kouame who played in UAAP was allowed to play in Feb, certainly if asked SJ, Dave, Geo and the rest to help Thirdy, Dwight, Navarro, Lopez , Go, Nieto, etc would really not be an issue at all.
But no there was a knee jerk reaction. And the excuse of we need pros was made up.

Coach Chot and SBP is focusing on Short Development because of WC next year in which we will be hosting.
So, probably their minds and focus are mainly there.

Anyway, moving on the other topic

I hope We can Field a Competitive lineup in Fiba Asia Cup. And when I say Competitive, It is with Kai, AJ, our B league Players, our Best College Players, and Pba Players. Ofc, Ange will still be the NP by then

The TNT guys fielded in Feb however did noting to address that however, as they're not the main guys you want for 2023. So useless lang

Dwight, Thirdy, and Lopez I think will be considered for 2023.

And Knowing Coach Chot, he may also consider Troy,Erram and Pogoy for 2023. Lol.

                    Hays.

Everyone Wants Dwight/Thirdy/Parks/Baltazar/Tamayo Over Pogoy/Wright/Troy. But I expect these pba players to be in 2023 pool

I see. Any idea who the other guys practicing in December were? I have read that Lepalam was included.

Gilas Pilipinas quietly began their build-up to the February window of the 2023 FIBA World Cup Qualifiers on Saturday evening at Moro Lorenzo Sports Center in Quezon City. Sixteen players attended the workouts, split into two groups – the frontline and the backcourt. There was one addition to the pool who was part of the […]

Still the same pool composition in November?

                      • The bottom line is they didn't trust those young guys (takot matalo) for a non bearing game , where we were host .baka magalit yung fans pag natalo.
Not realizing Pinoy fans are actually smart. They can see right through the disarray and no direction of a national team program.
                        Can't be fooled

We can't blame people for assuming that the PBA is taking over, tapos ayaw masapawan. We could have had guys like Dave, Lopez, and even Chiu and Go in lieu of Pogoy, Troy, Erram, and Kelly. The only TNT players I'd keep are Montalbo and Banal.

And in addition, we had B.League players too, like Parks and Kobe. Heck, maybe Javi.

Change in direction was frustrating to see.

                          • But I can say this if Tab were still in charge: I think Tab would have gone for pride and the win as well, he'll mix it in with exposure to FIBA positions (Dave, Thirdy, and Dwight at combo guard, Lopez at 2/3, Go and Chiu at 4/5), rather than just focusing on developing players for the positions where they are more fit to play in FIBA.

                            • Re: Mike Nieto and Pogoy, both are lower upside players, but I will say that Mike's attributes translated better. He's a better team defender, he hustles better, and even shot the three better.

Is he that bad? I don't really watch the NCAA. What I heard before was that he is a big man with some defense, some offense, and can shoot. Will check his recent game to see him perform. I was hoping to see him developed by Tab as a reliable backup big for our main bigs.
