In addition, what happened to their defense, especially in the last 2 games against Ginebra? They were a top defensive team in the All-Filipino, and now Scottie, Brownlee, LA, and Japeth got easy points in their spots. What happened to the team that rotated well against Magnolia?
If that's gonna be a preview of Gilas' offense and defense, I'm worried. Chot better get his tactics straight, and soon. Lineup could help too. Adapt some plays that get shooters and cutters open through off-ball action, have the star play within the flow of the offense, and bring back what defensive magic you had in the All-Filipino bubble.
Chot should get more internationally viable players in every position, and get more internationally viable systems on both ends.

You guys saw how easily Japeth, Brownlee, and Scottie scored inside? Especially Japeth. Lol.
Coach Chot had a hard time defending that Horns Set Wing by Ginebra.
It is a simple double screen at the top. Then drive, and pass it to a wing 3.
Another play is a simple concept of triangle. Pass the ball to the Post Playmaker, and then there are cutters and off ball actions options.
Idk, Coach Chot and His Players have a lot of problems on those 2 Plays.
Anyway, Int stint of Gilas is a different animal. Ofc, you will have better players.
In SEA GAMES, Coach Chot will look good again.
It is the Fiba Asia Cup where will be the true test. And we are not even sure if Both Kai and AJ are available in that time.

Plus, nothing to worry about defensively.

I am positive pba and collegiate wll give way for that. Which means more preparation.
We never know, maybe we can replicate that 2014 success, if not better.
Coach Chot is still our most accomplished WC Coach.
But I agree, he needs more time and preparation to add some twist and variations to his DDO system
That is what happened in 2014. It was just now purely DDO.
Yes, I am Just being OPTIMISTIC. Lol.

Last night top playoff teams Sydney vs SEM , demonstrated the modern game in full display and more accurate reflection of the NBL game today. 6'9 3 point mobile forward Jarel Martin is Sydney main finish the gsme center . To matchup SEM benched traditional center Zhou in 4th quarter (did not play). And used a 6'8 Pinau active quick feet mobile forward as their big..
SYdney won by 1. That gsme is actually more a reflection of the NBL.
Forward Baristow with excellent footwork and shoots 3s is the 36ers main center
Note Sydney Kings main center is.small ball center MVP candidate Cooks. while NZ center Wetzell is a mobile quick footed forward in US college (not really a center)
Othee Top 4 teams main bigs are - Perth Travers and Law. Hawks - Reath . They are all small ball skilled bigs
This is more of true reflection of the NBL (Not old traditional Jawai LOL)

Furthermore, he needs to focus on defense, build on the defensive foundation that Tab gave us. Have a good defensive scheme, for one. Furthermore, he should get defensive personnel, and those with potential to contribute on that end. Dwight, Thirdy, Balti, and Navarro are crucial to defense, they provide length and effort while not sacrificing speed. Probably Lebron amd Caelum. He should not sacrifice height and length on defense for speed on offense, especially if the position is the 3-spot.

I also remember the team that got into a brawl with Australia had quite some prep time under Chot, that team was together with Blatche in a few games against Taipei and Japan and I think a few others and they're still down 32 against Australia in the 3rd(it could've easily EASILY been a 40+ point blowout even as a proper game). The lack of preparation/chemistry excuse is tired baloney, that team was undersized and their overhyped skills/talent couldn't make up for it.

Undersized point guards also will find it way harder to pass to perimeter players because the opponent's length will bother them, undersized shooters are not effective because the opponent's length will bother them, even on defense the opponent's length will bother them, jesus christ how many lessons are there left to learn with this shit. The 50 point blowout in 2019 wasn't enough? the 32 point blowout against Korea in 2017? and now the 25 point spanking against New Zealand's 3rd stringers are we gonna remember that? geriatrics are reminiscing about muh 2014 but completely forgetting about the very relatively recent complete humiliations of pinoy ball lol fuck me.
Same thing in the NZ game last February, only Chot had the personnel (Dwight, Navarro, probably Lebron), but ayun, didn't even use Navarro and Lebron, and at one point, had Dwight at 4. NZ was actually playing a small ball lineup, and they dictated the tempo.
Hay, nako. Chot should really learn from those beatdowns. He got outcoached by a coach who I thought was done and almost as stubborn as he is, and got out-small balled by NZ. Really needs new tactics.

Sure, sacrificing speed, but their length might have helped in closeouts. Instead, there was Mikey, Ryan Reyes, Pogoy, Castro, and Montalbo, who lack the length to cover the distance in closeouts. Their speed can't make up for their lack of length to cover shooters. Yeah, Ginebra only made a total of 16 threes and scored mostly inside the arc, especially in the paint with Brownlee, Japeth, and Scottie, but a lengthier, rangier wing could have at least distracted their shooters and helped in paint rotations. Didn't help that Kelly's the only tough guy in the TNT frontline.

I bet he will win a ring again this year. and many more to come.
You can say, he just have good players during his alska, San Mig/Purefoods/m Ginebra stint. But still.
And unlike other jurrasic coaches, even though he is an old head, he was open minded enough to adjust for the modern basketball game.
