Let's hope our bigs are more competent in the post for this window. If they are, hope we invite more bigs to the pool in the future. Quiambao, Cortez, and eventually Demisana, Amos, and Gagate.

In the second game against SoKor, we gave up an offensive rebounding percentage of 38.8%. That's too high, although we did get a ORB% of 39% in that game. For me, a high offensive rebound percentage is around the 28% mark.
In the OQT, we gave up 29% against Serbia, while we gave up 34% against the Dominican Republic.
In the King's Cup, we gave up a whopping 46% offensive rebounding percentage in the first game against Jordan, while we only grabbed 26% of available offensive rebounds. The first game against Tunisia, we gave up a 36% offensive rebounding percentage, while we grabbed 33%. Role reversal in the second game, where we gave up 33% while we grabbed 35%.
We're giving up too many offensive rebounds. Even this new iteration. We force low FG percentages, but we can't complete stops with the board.
This may be an overly simplistic assessment. But generally while Gilas may have height it does not have overall good basketball athletes at the 6'3 to 6'9 range. (Wing and forward spots ). This matters a lot and it's very evident to the eye..(A glaring weakness)Last edited by DAdmiral; 02-16-2022, 09:33 PM.

Our normally dominant naturalized big.
That is why Norwood and Pingris as mobile athletic defenders from the forward spots is really a rarity and unusual.
Tamayo as a defensive big is a stretch..while Baltazar defending wings is also too much.
Kai while a rim protector is not a good defender
AJ hasn't really played
Of course Kouame is a quality defender
SCOUTING REPORT FOR PHILIPPINES WERE:
STRENGTHS
1. Excellent Guard Play
2. Dominant Naturalized Big
WEAKNESS
1. Weak Rebounding Team
2. Frontline Activity Motor is lacking
3. Frontline Players Generally Slow Defensively
4. Lack Quality Wing Defenders
So, Most of the problems are the Bigs( Frontline) except for the NP???

When a team plays a guard at SF as Gilas usually does , they don't sacrifice much offensively , but defensively they do.
Our bigs are allergic to having to step out and close out or switch to the perimeter. Transition defense for bigs is also an issue.
I think it's a reflection of what our typical bigs are accustomed to in domestic play , where games are primary focused into the paint. so stepping out defensiviley is kind of foreign to them
to me rather than focus on height, we should focus on length to cover court space. the former is just on paper but the latter is what matters on the court.

When a team lacks bigs mobility and wing length, while you can over compensate to rebound respectably by packing the paint . You do it by sacrificing the perimeter. Which in most of those games where we get blown out It's the perimeter where we get killed not inside due to over compensating

This is quite obvious. Quite clear none of Gilas frontline players excluding NP are rated as even adequate as world level rebounder and defendersLast edited by DAdmiral; 02-17-2022, 03:34 AM.

ORB% = Offensive Rebounds/(Offensive Rebounds + Opp. Defensive Rebounds)

The Serbia game were actually good. In the DR game it would probably be a closer game with Dwight. It is actually a testament to the team that we kept it close until the 3rd without our best perimeter player considering they offense is guard centric.
Abdullah cup was without Kai. It was a training for Geo but he is still not ready. If Tab was serious about winning he would have played Kouame in the last game.
We are not a hefty or athletic team that accounts for some of the rebounding problems. But I repeat we are winning games despite that because we are focusing on speed and switchability in defense. We probably need a 3rd big after Kouame and Kai as Balti's role is more of a wing than a PF/C. But even wihout one we can win with the Gilas team. I was hoping Lepalam and the other tall new members joined the practices.

Just citing our strengths and weaknesses nothing more . in the context of world teams (not just Asia) , it's no shame to realise given our past world performances that we really are depleted in the wing and forwards spots ( this is no secret)Last edited by DAdmiral; 02-17-2022, 05:17 AM.

Talking about rebounding, I think that Tabs OQT team was a decent rebounding team. Well Tab played Blatche and June Mar quite a lot against NZ. Rosario was also a pretty good offensive rebounder. Too bad Tab got yanked out. I think if Tab got to develop that team more it would have been a sight to see. If Balti and Tamayo looked decent playing SF in Tabs system Rosario might have improved too given more time under Tab.

If any, the lesson for me in the DR game and the Abdullah cup is we another rim protector and a big guard for when Kai or Dwight might not be available. Dave should be the understudy for Dwight. But I dont see another internstionsl level rim protector if we dont include of injured Edu. Tab might have been looking for a
bigger stretch 4 probably like Lepalam, 6'8 to 6'9 guys. Maybe a Fotu lite.
