I think yeah. Closest were Parks and Kobe. But we know what happened to both of them

My belief is since we are hosts we should try our best for 2023. After that we can reassess the program and hopefully move towards something more developmental in nature.

That being said I didnt believe that Tab's program was the program we needed. Something focused on even younger prospects and less focused on the senior game is what I would like to see.

EDIT: Remember when Tab called his team a C Level talent team that sometimes plays at an A Level. I think our priority long term should be to have A or at least B plus level talent.

C-level talent?? What's the upside of Tamayo? Balti? Kouame? Even Dwight? Ain't that Level A come 2023? Who's better than these guys from PBA in 2023? what would be their level in 2027 in terms of long term?

Now what will be the upside of Kouame instead of 3-pt shooting big like all we see in NBA/NBL now? Douthit 2.0 DDO version (Douthit 2011 was actually a monster)
Upside of Dwight now instead of a developed big PG we badly need against Euro teams? playing SF, Norwood replacement with better 3 but less athleticism.

I think Dwight could still be a guard in Chot's system, whether as a PG, SG, or third guard. He might be groomed to handle the ball and drive and kick. However, I think he'll need a PnR to get started. I don't see him as a 1-on-1 player like Castro or Terrence, at least not right now anyway, except in the post, where he can take advantage of mismatches.

I dunno about Tamayo or Balti. Chot says that he's high on the both of them. I think they might make the cut. They fit as stretch combo forwards, and Tamayo can put the ball on the floor and drive. Hope they get more ball screen or low-post action, though.

Objectively within context while, PBA players may be A tier talent compared to UAAP players (C level) from a FIBA world level contex the talent difference of PBA pros to UAAP players is insignificant, not something you can rely on to beat world level 2nd tier teams. Regardless of who the Philippines puts out their (of course with exception of Clarkson or maybe even Sotto) , they are all inferior 2nd rate C level talent relative to a normal world level player. So really Tab is right the only way you can compete is through better chemistry and cohesion

Hence, the need for more preparation to build chemistry amd cohesion on both ends, which is what we saw in Tab's Gilas. Hope this is really emphasized, whoever the coach and players are, especially in tournaments proper.

But all things considered, if I were to pick someone to head the SBP, it would be Ronald Mascariñas. No ties to either MVP or SMC groups, and really works for the development of basketball

There are local players na kahit dito naglalaro eh mas magaling sa mga players abroad, just so he wont forget

Well to be fair he played less than Abadiano because the reason at that time was that he joined the team late. And Abadiano like other guards were terrible. But he's tall and getting minutes on a div 1 team. And I rather give him a try than any of the other guards in that team.

I think people are missing the point on why I mentioned Dalph, it's not about comparison with homegrown players and if they're better . It's about the super scarcity of homegrown players making it in major leagues abroad (NBA , Euro , DiV1). I've always stressed that making it to major world leagues is the only real way to improve are basketball. And we really have to move away from an insular domestic centric mindset. If our kids aspirations are to be UAAP and then followed by being a PBA star . Seriously we will always be mediocre . As it's a different type of game and emphasis to be successful domestically as it it compared to the outside world .
The mindset is a microcosm of the Philippine mindset, if you notice most Pinoy companies are focused on rivalry competition among themselves, to dominate domestically. Rather than to make a name for themselves globally

This insular mindset is the root of the Gilas change in leadership, as really Philippine basketball stakeholders cannot accept change especially if it means their domestic industry kingdom is losing to global aspiration. Make no mistake about it , leaders of industry in the Philippines care more about keeping their domestic control ownership than making an impact globally. . Obvious naman in the way we do things all the way to politicians and businesses
