His family himself said there were D1 offers when they were defending him on comments. I think the Duke is a cap though, I feel like there is but it's only some low-major programs.

I think Gamber is a bust. All those accolades happened elsewhere and not here in the Philippines. He’s a tall guard with exceptional handles. But he’s not yet able to progress those skills in the rugged and physical pinoy play.

I think him and Competente are solid shooters and both could also handle the ball well (Heading prototypes). They're struggling to adjust in the college level but I think if they get over the hump and get physically stronger (which comes with time), they still have upside potential. They have length (can't teach) and guard skills (have to teach really early).

It's why I included them in the shooter's category with Bautista.

Btw, do you know if Ajanti is eligible?

        • Both of them are still young too—20 years old—and have already spent (or will going to spend this year) 3 years in college. They might finish their college eligibility by 22. Starting early in the pros allows for maximum development, provided the opportunity (playing time) is given to its fullest.

And majority of the time, young Filam guards straight from high school struggle adjusting locally (Competente also came from a US HS). The play style and officiating is night and day and it takes a while for players whose strength is skills (without much physical strength) to adjust. Even Bayla who already has a good frame can't do the things he can do on the offensive side.

I think most coaches already know this and is the reason why Filam guards taken are usually "veterans." However, when there's a guy like Bayla or Gamber, you take your chances and take them in as a type of a project because upside potential is high.

            • Speaking of future wingmen, is Francis Lopez a legit 6'5 w/o shoes?

              Comment

              • Lopez is a good prospect, provided he learns to move properly during his drives. He only goes straight as of this moment, no shifty-ness. Improve his mobility, dribbling, and FREE THROWS and he would be a great prospect as our small forward.

                • How about Mike Philipps, you think he can make the transition from being a 4-5 guy to a 3-4? Along with Kouame they may get the exemption in the next 2-3 years

                  • 3? Not Phillips. His mobility is limited but he would be my future Gilas starting 4 because of his insane motor. He would be the Rodman of Gilas.

Agree with this. If we compare Lopez to a Zave Lucero, we can see that the latter has better body control & shiftiness especially on drives. Lopez' body seems stiff when driving to the lane. This despite Lopez being more athletic than Lucero.

Mike Philipps can also play as center especially against not so big teams in Asia like South Korea, Japan, Bahrain, UAE.

Lebanon's superstar stretch-big 6-foot-7/6-foot-8 Ali Haidar sometimes plays center for his team when their naturalized player playing center goes to the bench. I just hope Mike Philipps develops a reliable medium range jumper (15 to 18 feet) to expand his offensive game.

So like Kobe Paras but less womanizing? Hows his maturity? Can't really forget the carnival incident.

Hahaha! Maybe it is good for his basketball career that Francis Lopez doesn't have the animalistic sex appeal of a Kobe Paras.

If we are talking about basketball skills between a 21-year old Kobe Paras (which is Lopez' current age) compared to Lopez' current skills, I think in terms of offense, Kobe Paras is better, but defensively, I think Lopez is better.

Sorry I wasn't clear. I meant his overall maturity. Kobe was talented as hell but his head isn't just in basketball. It was just like a side quest for him on his mission to party his way out.
