sabagay 04-05 paradigm is still the dominant big man set up, locally we had Taulava while Shaq, and Yao were the the top centers. back in the 90s my dad gave me his 94-98 editions of hardcourt, while i started buying those in 99', sad that only the 96, 98 and 04 are available online through shopee (still looking for later editions)

If only we got with the times in the 2010s and embraced versatility in our tall players, similar to Miami and GSW (although they did take advantage of the weakest batch of centers in the NBA), and patterned our development after their play style.

just like in any aspect (technology, arts, entertainment etc), we are always a decade behind, i just hope that the next generation of coaches will embrace position-less, basketball especially that the current and probably the future generation already have the manpower to do so, im just happy that our average height is going up through the year

these are the teams Gilas is going to face in tournament. do you think that Bahay (5'10) and Gemao (6'0) will make the cut against Australia and NZ parading 6'2-6'5 guards?

            I mean they have 5'11 - 6'1 guards too.

Imo, I will choose Gemao and Bayla still if they are the most skilled PG right now in Batang Gilas. But I will alternate them in PG. I wouldnt use them at the same time in the floor.

We have Bayla (6'4ish) and Jones (6'3ish) for SG.

Mandatory 2 year ROTC will solve all these ills.

Anyhow. PHL cant produce 16 y/o/ 6'5's that play guard. so we have no choice but to kill them with speed and skills. problem is Aussie guards are just as skillful and fast, and they are a head taller.

actually, we have 6'2-6'4 that are natural guards in that roster. it's just that the coaching staff are forcing these players to play bigger positions to accommodate the midgets.

No choice really. in that age group 5'8-6'1 boys are the most skillful. And Pinoy coaches tend to put their best players regardless of size on the floor at any given time. This is the same reason the Nieto twins, Desiderio and other small players were able to beat the taller Chinese, (was that?) 9 years ago.

That's why I am more confident playing against 16 y.o. Chinese 6'5s who are forced to play guards because of this "taller is better" mindset. They maybe be taller but definitely they are not in anyway more instinctive and dont have better BBIQ than our 5'8 boys.

In contrast the 2010s gave us the dump the ball to Junemar phenomenon. Who cares if it's boring and outdated, it worked in the PBA. Nobody could match JF's combination of size and skills.

The 2018 team placed 4th, and earned the right to play in U17 that time.

That 2018 team have size with Kai, Cortez, and Chiu. Kai was a monster there having 20-20 games in QF and SF. And he was named in Mythical 5.

Now, this 2022 team, Have taller players in Guards and Wings. (If they choose the taller ones), So, I bet they can outperform the likes of Padrigao, Fortea, and Abadiano. They have no dominant Big like Kai. But I am hoping for Mahmood and Konov to be a revelation here.
Consider too that China & Taiwan aren't playing in this year's tournament. So somehow that bolsters our chances of achieving a podium finish.

A 6-foot-8 natural small forward would already a major upgrade for Phi basketball size wise.

Well, maybe if our target is just a podium finish in the Asia-Oceania level, then the smaller but more skillful guards & wings would be ok. Things would be different when we're already talking about the world stage.
