With Choke Reyes as Gilas senior team coach, the game vs. Australia would be over by the end of the 1st quarter.
"A king may move a man, a father may claim a son, but that man can also move himself, and only then does that man truly begin his own game. Remember that howsoever you are played or by whom, your soul is in your keeping alone, even though those who presume to play you be kings or men of power, when you stand before God, you cannot say, 'But I was told by others to do thus,' or that virtue was not convenient at the time. This will not suffice." - King Baldwin IV

Fil am select and NBTC would still recruit regardless who the coach is. Note Fil am select is the NBTC representative of the US east coast .
This 4th.of July will the Global games in Virginia Beach
which is a good segway for me to ask you, any new NZ discovery for BG had NBTC push thru last year?

        • The most disappointing I guess is Nieto. He is a co-captain ball. For his age, he is a tall PG. But his shooting is atrocious. He seems to have decent BBIQ but he doesnt seem to have a single above average skill that he brings to the table. Matt was a better defender and passer though just as bad a 3 pt shooter. Mike was a better shooter but at the forward spot.

i agree with your assessment on the skills side. I dont know why you are raising the co-captain ball thing. the captain ball(sama na natin co-captain) is suppose to lead the team. that doesnt necessarily mean stat wise. Jolas was the captain ball of te grand slam Alaska team. he was not the best player on the team. Johnny A is and Bong Hawkins and Duremdes were both better than Jolas. but Jolas was able pull the team together and keep them communicating with each other.

that said, I didnt see Nieto do anything like that. actually I didnt see anyone from gilas youth try to talk to each other when they were on the floor. but yeah, you can be captain ball and be the 12th man on the bench.

I agree!! the kid is very good, very strong and I think he is a fighter. I hope he gets the call. By the way he is very familiar with Amos. I saw some vids were they played together. S if Amos will be in that pool I hope Chio will be in that pool too.

                  • Based on my observations among these kids in U16. Some based on stats, but heavily on eye test.

These are the kids I think can potentially be considered in Gilas Seniors in the Future. (2027 or 2031 whatever)

Caelum Harris - He underperformed based on the expectations on him. But he still showed some potential. I like how he can still contribute to the game when he is not scoring. He can contribute all around. Probably another Jack N All Player. He needs to strengthen his mental strength and his majurity though.

Alex Konov - We waited and we were eager to see what he can bring to the table as he is the tallest in the team at 6'7-6'8 ish player who can shoot from the outside. He didnt shoot well in first few games, but at the latter, he kinda adjusted, so the stats may not show how good a shooter he is. Nice thing though is that he showed that he is not soft, and can also battle and finished inside the paint.

Jaycob Bayla - At 6'4, he can be developed as a Combo Guard. (His natural Pos overseas). He also have long arms if I am not mistaken. He is a very good perimeter defender in what Ive seen. And he can contribute on offense too. Needs to improve his playmaking and ball handling though.

Zain Mahmood - He is good because he knows how to use his heft and huge body. But if he plays like a Big, he is really undersized. As he is like a 6'7ish Hefty Traditional Big who can shoot. I am kinda 50-50 actually about him. But yeah, for now let him be included.

Competente is the best shooter for our U16. However at 6'2 at SG, it will be tough for him to be even considered. But who knows. He may replaced the heading role.

Well he knows the things he needs to do. The right pass etc. When to shoot. Unfortunately he cant shoot. The guy was appointed captain ball. I guess he looked like he knew what he was doing in practice and tuneups. But it turns out he was almost useless in actual games.

                      • Same judgement on mahmood bull strong but if he have a mike nieto transformation were good.. really a big if was arvie bringas(zains worst case scenario), arvin has better handles and instinc yet strongt but like ryan buenafe, the basketball underworld ate them

He is the one guy I wish to be involed in a program like Ateneo
To becomes Asia's Best, we need to compete against the World's Best..

                        • Yuto Kawashima with a 27-10-2 in a 10 point loss to Lithuania. He's the second leading scorer in the World U-17 Tourney

Strong possibility that he can be Japan's 4th NBA player

The guys doesnt scream star on his aura, tehre are instances that harris was able to stop him and throughout the game he just grind and grind and grind and booya you jsut notice that he had already 30 points if you look on box score.. isnt flashy

NBL is the top-tier pro league in Australia while NBL1 is a semi-pro league.
