  • Despite being a naturalized player, Brownlee's still an import in the EASL.

Imports are a huge topic of discussion in the East Asia Super League and also in the PBA. Key personalities discuss the good and possibly even the bad of having one, two, or even three reinforcements to a single team.

The PBA sees Brownlee as an import, so the EASL has to apply that rule as well.

Fair enough, I don't remember New Taipei playing Quincy Davis on their EASL games (they used Blankley) even though he was on the roster. The whole import/naturalized player situation messes up the dynamic to anyone idiotic enough to insist:

      a. one import, one team
      b. naturalized players are locals

Ergo, the typical Barangay Ginebra dipshit on peysbuk who will not give an inch to foreign competition.

On that note, didn't Meralco (who got embarassed in the EASL) just blow out Ginebra? Don't get me wrong, it's not that I don't want to see Ginebra play EASL teams, I just want the best teams period. Even in European football, you have that issue when a Bayer Leverkusen-type club is on fire for the season but didn't qualify for the Champions League because of last season's standings. In the PBA, it's just a revolving door among either one of RSA's teams and/or one of MVP's teams.

I wouldn't mind MERALCO coming back. They had a margin of defeat of -2.25 (including the 9-point win against Ryukyu) with Zach Lofton and Ibeh. ORTG of 110.4, DRTG of 113.3. Just need to clean up the defense, though.

Sucks for Ginebra, though. A complete lineup would fit well in the EASL stage.

I will not surprise if SMB declines to join EASL due to fatigue.....

And the 3-conference format which goes on for 10-12 months. But still, the other teams don't lay down excuses. Chiba reached the semis of the B.League and the EASL. SK won the EASL and got to the playoffs of their domestic leagues.

They have only TWO players in the Gilas pool. With two imports, they can manage. And if fatigue is an excuse, there's such a thing as a player rotation. You choose which games players sit out.

I think SMB and MERALCO qualify outright. Looks like they'll be back.

MERALCO just got a bad draw last year. Hopefully, they get chemistry, and with new additions and imports, they can get to the knockout stage. Practice player rotation between PBA and EASL too.

As for SMB, they better rebuild their roster and rethink their tactics, or they will get grouped in the group stage (pun intended). That is, if they don't back out.

                        Unless SMC begs off again.

SMB better get floor spacers/3 and D guys, painful to watch SMB camping at the post,

SMB has so many pieces for a passable farm team trade, just a question of who they want.

SMB do have floor spacers in Terrence, Cruz, Mo, Marcio, and Trollano. The problem lay in their defense. Unbalanced lineup, and their tactics on that end, hay.

As for begging off, they might have an excuse because of the 3-conference format. I don't think we know that dropping players from the gameday squad is a thing if we need to rest our players. SMB are quite deep, they can drop one or two key players for rest if they're too tired. Same with MERALCO.

Meralco is our best chance that will break the wall for PBA teams in EASL and BCL.. Their style is also fit in international level... SMB meanwhile despite their star studded roster, They will be beaten there since their style is not fit in international competitions... Never forget that they were beaten by Anyang by 55 pts... Pelita Jaya led by Brownlee can even beat this current SMB team...

I think Ginebra can, too. Complete lineup when healthy and with JB in tow, but they need an additional center who can protect the paint. TNT sana, but they screwed up with Mikey (who had been a massive part of their team), and I dunno how they can adjust. If they can get a go-to guy, they have a chance too.

As for SMB, wala, they really need an adjustment in roster construction and tactics.
